Does sound oddly familiar.  That being said, it seems to be a normal thing.

Just wanted to see everyone's opinion on this. I know we have had a bunch of OC's and DC's in the past that would sit in the press box during the game and had...

"I have preached all year that especially Shoop should have had his butt on the sidelines. I posted at least 3 times on this given the communications problem on defense. Players not in place, moving around until the last second, and basically looking lost. In a first year system he should have been on the field with his troops, teaching and helping. You look at Bama, the OC and DC are on the field and when they come off they are meeting on sidelines with coordinators. That's the way it should be."

I usually avoid this particular board like the plague after a loss but was feeling unusually masochistic, waded in, seeing the usual ..... haters relishing in the loss, some of the overly optimistic reacting like they've been personally defiled, the good ol' "I'm done with USF" eulogies, with a few rational "take a deep breath" observations thrown in ..... and my masochistic itch was scratched.

I still have no idea how the rest of the season will play out but, seriously, what the **** did you really expect for last night?? Even though preseason Top 25's are pretty ambiguous, they were still there for a reason ...... while we were coming in still searching for answers with one FBS win in two years. It would have been great if we had gotten some definitive answers last night but with two new coordinators/schemes and a lot new players, who most couldn't get a lot playing time on their previous team, what should realistic expectations have been. The first quarter went just about how I feared, although didn't anticipate the first play from scrimmage td. BYU going no huddle against an "inexperienced" D was a brilliant move. The game was over at that point.

Bottom line, all things considered, not sure how much of a gauge last night was in how the season will play out. This year could mirror the last two or we could show improvement as the year progresses. The Chicken Littles see the former .... the rest of us are hoping for the latter.

BTW, last season P5 opener we got shut out 45-0 by a, hopefully, worse team than BYU so we got that going for us ...

for some for some reason, the reaction over a loss is the same as a demolishing of an FCS opponent.

Thank you for the reality check!

So there coach came prepared with scripted plays that he knew would work and our coach came prepared for a HB dive. The team looked lost and unprepared in year 3 with this huge offseason. The local community is trying to buy in and support USF , and the coaching staff is ruining that momentum. At what point does the hot seat get turned up to full heat? There is nothing I have seen from CJS with results on the field that give me any reasons to support him.  FCS wins do not mean anything to me. Blowing them out will not show any progress. Do you actually think CJS can coach this team up ? If so what has he shown you that he can do that ?

No — their coach didn’t come with “plays that work” — who can predict that?  They came with the mindset of stretching the field and found success.  We came with the mindset of running off-tackle and struggled against their 330 lb DL.  Was it the right call?  Hindsight is 20/20 but it’s not what I would have done.

You want to fire him and keep auditioning coaches every three years?  You don’t think he feels the pressure?  He’s not the one dropping passes and missing blocks.  However, he’s also not avoiding the media and passing blame.  We, the fans, are doing that.

Is he the correct head coach long term?  Not sure — but let’s see where we are at the end of the season.

Just like everyone else on this forum, you are entitled to your opinion.  We all see things differently, but we all want the best for the coaches, the team, the players and the university and to that I’m unapologetic.

Bless your heart... people are gonna roast you alive.

I *wish* I could say I saw something.  I stayed til our last offensive series and after the turnover on downs I literally didn't want to watch anything more.  Game was almost over, and I hate leaving early...but what I saw being called was just awful and I couldn't stand watching it.

Felt like every series we did a delayed handoff ->run up middle, run again, then pass to sideline (or some combination of that).  No tempo, only a couple of deep shots....the most 'vanilla of vanilla'.  It felt like they developed the game plan for a rookie and were sticking to it no matter what tonight.

Then afterwards I hear from the coaches comments "the run was shut down and its hard to throw when that happens"....  Well what about passing to setup the run with a QB on national watch lists who won a Big12 conference and supposedly had 80-90% completion in camp.  Do you wanna maybe make a gameplan that's pass heavy to take advantage of that?  Or just keep doing dinks and dunks when it's clear from like the second series of the game the defense is literally waiting on those sideline throws to jump on?

Thank you for the “Bless your heart” — I’ll take it as a complement and not a snide remark.

I agree that the offense could have opened up more (they did toward the end) but I also see the hesitancy when the WR drops passes.  Bohanon’s fault?  Maybe.  WR’s fault?  Maybe.

However, that has nothing to do with the fight in the team.  Again, I saw no giving up in them.  They seemed to become more in sync as the game wore on.

I feel sorry for all the Negative Nellies. They care about the team as much as I do and want the best for the group.

I see no reason to give up the season because of this game — doesn’t count toward our Championship goal and we weren’t going to the Playoffs anyway.  I still see a possibility of a bowl game and that would be something we all would love to see.

Jitters by the 5th year Junior who is our "leader" and has an incredible GRIT score? Probably not a good sign.

When you are in a new environment (Tampa) with high expectations (fans and media) with new receiving targets, yes there will be jitters.  Everyone gets nervous for the first event — leading a meeting, acting a part, teeing off in front of strangers, wanting to make a good impression on the coach — so yes, even a 5th year junior.

how can you believe in cjs when he didnt put the offense on the field after winning the cost

    WHAT A DUMB MOVE

no one has been a bigger supporter of cjs than me

but what a negative message that sent. he had no confidence in his own offense

The end around for a TD would have probably been the same regardless.  We’ll never know, but common history dictates that the first 10 plays or so are usually scripted anyway.

Statistics say that getting the ball to start the second half equals roughly an extra .5 points and an extra possession .

Would taking the opening kickoff equal a 29 point difference?  No.  That’s not the reason we lost.  If you are “the biggest supporter of CJS”, you sure don’t show it.

He didn’t do it because he had no confidence in his offense — that’s just ignorant.

  7. I believe in this team — I’ll watch it to the end.  Since I’m a Positive kind of guy, think about this:

VERY FEW PENALTIES.  Teams in the past have been riddled with penalties.

BOHANON THROWS A NICE BALL.  Sure, at times it’s too fast, but he’ll settle down.  We just need WR to hold onto them.

THE TEAM DIDN’T GIVE UP.  These players (some not even 21) kept working and trying.  It would have been easy to give up, but they didn’t walk out in the middle of the game (like some players did in the past).

What you and your ilk apparently can't grasp is that taking over the same record somewhere else does not equate to taking over this program ...... every situation was uniquely different. Should CJS have probably done better than he did .... probably .... but the bottom line is those first two years don't mean **** at this point. It's the next 2 that will decide whether CJS is our guy or not.

I agree -- it's apples to oranges.  Now we'll never know if Traylor could have turned this program around, but I'm glad he was able to turn a program around.  If anything, at least many of these players WANT to play for Jeff Scott.
