  1. Yes. The best thing is to win, in multiple sports and also in conference and just as important, in the class room. I remember passing a billboard sign on I75 years ago on one of my trips from Atlanta to back home, put up by UF, saying "One of the top 5 athletic programs in the country". Love to see one like that for USF some day.

You missed it, USF put up a billboard sort of like that 4 years ago. Except instead of top 5, our billboard said top (big) 4.

    I kid.

  2. Hearing rumor that he will be transferring from WKU to USF and won't have to sit out a year via a buddy of mine, 247, and twitter...

    i would pass

    usf needs better talent

    with more eligibility

Graduate with a year of eligibility is the absolute best kind of transfer to fill a problem area. Kansas State picked up Grant Gregory from us. We took the TE/FB from ECU whose name I really should remember at this moment. If a kid earned a degree and the rules allow him/her to transfer without sitting out a year, and they can help, no reason to say no.

In the past we take too many kids who leave for the wrong reasons. Amazing how kids who have off the field problems, then transfer to get away from their past, get in trouble at their new school. This is not the case with graduate transfers.

  3. I grew up a Nebraska football fan (saw them win 2 national championships in person and saw them lose at least 3 in person). My dad is from Omaha, and still a Nebraska (and a USF fan).

Back in 1997 or 98 I bought 3 tickets for Washington at Nebraska. Washington was top 25 and Nebraska was top 5. Gameday was in Lincoln, but it wasn't nearly as big of a deal as it is now. It was a USF bye week, I would never miss a USF game to go to another school's game.

The third ticket was for one of my uncles who lived in Omaha, we stayed with his family, so the ticket was our thank you gift. We headed to the game, got their early and went to find a spot near the stadium to sit down and have lunch (my uncle packed a cooler). We found this long picnic table, less than 100 yards from the ESPN Gameday set, there was a couple at one end, and we asked if we could use the other end of the table. The other guy at the table asked what the logo on my hat was (robo Rocky). When I told him, he said it looked familiar, he was a USF grad from the 1970's.

    and

on my honeymoon in Paris, ran into a Bulls fan outside the Virgin Mega Store on the Champ Elysees. Talked to him for a while there. Didn't think much about him until the first basketball game this season when he tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I remembered running into him in Paris. His seats are directly behind me.

  4. I just read that Larry Antonucci got fired today. His wife, the unofficial photographer posted on Facebook " everything comes to an end"

I don't doubt you, but I hope you are wrong. USF is better with Nucc being part of it. While he always did a great job, the person will be more missed. What an awesome person, who no one could dislike. Greg had tweeted a while ago he was going to transition to another job at USF Athletics. I don't know if that was bad info, something changed or what.

  5. they couldnt coach or recruit at the level needed

Contributed to getting two HC's shitecanned in last three years.

Kudos to Willie for taking out the garbage

These are people you are talking about. People who bleed green and gold for my (and maybe yours too) university. Calling them garbage is beyond any bounds of good taste. Please block me on here so you don't contribute to any future threads I start.

  6. Courtside seats or a loge box. So anyone could rent a loge box for a game and get in.

Courtside seats for the men require an Iron Bull ($10k a year) plus a capital commitment (money towards construction of facilities, I think 100k or more) ... or Iron Bull Champion ($25k a year) ..... I think, I might be off a little.

For the women, Herd donors of $250 a year can buy a courtside seat and get hardwood club access, but the drinks are not complimentary at the women's games.

A friend got me in to check it out for a women's game and it was very nice.

  7. This game clearly showed our weakness, I think Cuse beat us by 20 rebounds (or close to it). White being out hurt, but our biggest issues come from the fact that we are so small (and our two biggest players aren't great rebounders .... with Fitz a natural 3 in a big body and Jordan being a little awkward rebounding).

We may just have to say it is what it is this year.

  8. I am sort of old school ... but I get why we do it. For years before we had video boards, the fight song was what was played by the band to welcome the team to the court, and it was fun to sign along at that time. Now they make a big production of the team taking the court, and use the "Mike Tyson song from Hangover" .... In the Air Tonight or something like that.

Where they do it now, it feels so forced. This is just me, but I hate being told to stand up at sporting events (except for the National Anthem) .... as soon as a PA announcer tells me to stand, I go into shut down mode. I want to stand up because the moment makes me want to stand ... and the fight song immediately after "Here Come the Bulls... " works not ... everyone now stand its fight song time.

    Just my 2 cents.

  9. Greg had tweeted out some staff updates from football. Coach Taggart (who has every right to do whatever he wants with his staff) let 3 long time USF guys go.

Rich Rachel was a long time coach under Jim Leavitt. He coached DB's, and his last team he coached was the Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams last season, then he moved over to work with recruiting.

Carl Franks was the RB coach and running game coordinator under Leavitt. Prior to USF he was head coach at Duke and Coached at UF on The Ol' Ball Coach's staff. He served as interim head coach after Coach Leavitt's firing, then when not retained as a coach by Coach Holtz he moved over into a recruiting role. He was the position coach for Andre Hall among others.

Pat Burnham worked in recruiting and operations dating back to coach Leavitt. The name should be familiar as he is the son of former DC Wally Burnham.

As a USF Football fan I want to thank these three put in many years of hard work on behalf of our school. All three are quality people off the field as well and I wanted to thank them in this forum and wish them all well. I don't know what Pat has planned for the future, but Rich and Carl both have very impressive coaching resumes but put down roots here in Tampa and chose to take non-coaching jobs to stay in town. They both can find a coaching job if they are willing to move on, but clearly that is up to them.

  10. I just went to ticket master and there are still close to 70 seats available in the 300's

I'm going to say this... I'm still not sure there weren't some shenanigans with the "Sell out" at the FSU game... if they're playing the same game here and it's not a full house I'm going to be pissed....

they shouldn't sell single game tickets in donor sections ever. including football games. people pay a considerable donation in many cases. it's not fair to donors to open up those seats to people who don't pay a donation.

I would think if there are not enough donor's then the University should try to get whatever they can out of those seats. An empty seat that someone is willing to pay for does not help.

then you will have donors dropping thier thousands in donations when they know all they have to do is pay ticket face value. move next level donors into those seats if you need to fill them. ridiculous selling single game tickets in $10k section while $3,500 level donors sit in less desirable seats.

There is a middle ground in this argument. Add a donor component to single game tickets in donor sections that makes the season tickets the better deal.

Take section 135. Current cost is a $2,000 donation gives you the right to buy up to 8 season tickets. Face value of tickets is around $50.

If you sold single game tickets in that section for $250 (without club access, which only comes from the donation aznd season tickets). Will that make anyone drop their season tickets? The season tickets is the better deal if you plan to go to at least half the games. Plus, the best games may never be onsale (like the FSU game). This way USF makes money from people who are willing to pay big only for a prime seat for 1 game, but season tickets are still the best deal for Bulls fans.

Plus donors can deduct the donation from their taxes, single game buyers can not.

I believe IRS regulations would be a reason for not doing that.

There aren't any regulations that prevent USF from charging $250 for their best seats. I am not calling it a ticket plus donation .... just a way to account for the fact that season ticket holders pay more because of their required donations.

All on the up and up.

The IRS looks at it differently than you do.

What are you talking about. Just explain what part of charging more for the best seats via single game sales would be against any regulations? I am lost and don't understand.

  12. The only catch on that Mike.... I don't see any big name games coming down the line... The biggest sell going forward is going to be UCF every other year.

Understood, but it never hurts. Even the dog games will get some buyers. Rich uncle of a player on the visiting team, or just someone who will pay for the best seats (but might not be a candidate for season tickets) .... of course sales will be hurt by secondary markets selling similar seats for less, but this would be a way to make some extra money for USF while not disrespecting those who donate to be in those prime sections.

  14. One thing I want to share with everyone to put this in perspective. USF opens up seats on ticketmaster in the order they want to sell them. In the past, the buyers never knew how many seats were left, just if an event was sold out. Now that ticketmaster has that map that lets the buyer pick seats, don't assume all open seats are showing as open. A very common practice among sports teams, concerts and performing arts .... seats that the venue want to sell are made open, then when they run down, more seats are opened.

Here are reasons why .... if a game is on tv, USF may want to sell out the seats on the side the cameras face first. A common trick to make crowds seem bigger is to sell every other row. For the sake of clean up costs, you may not want 10 sections with a handful of people when they all would have fit into one section. This is not USF specific, but common everywhere. So, when you see 100 seats left on the maps, they may mean 100 seats are all that is left, or it may mean nothing at all ... and as a fan you have no way of knowing.

  15. To me there's a difference between re-selling stuff bought at a garage sale (where people just want to get rid of their old crap at any cost), and stuff bought at a thrift store. Lower income families really could have used some of this stuff, but this guy just wants to make a quick buck.

    Let the downvotes begin...

The thrift store exists to make money by selling clothes to anyone willing to buy them. The buyer is helping the charity by buying the clothes (as is the donor of the clothes).... you are confusing the thrift store with clothes that are donated for poor people to have something to wear.

  16. By the way, the Leavitt story was that he drove up and down the road through a poor neighborhood (might have been Nebraska Ave. but my memory is not sure of it) ... and handed his Bulls gear out to poor people through his car window that he encountered on the street. That came from him telling the story.

When someone gets fired, this is pretty common. I remember the trickle down of people who were leaving (not from being fired, but from getting a job at another school) handing out their gear to friends who were staying who wore the same size. (sadly I never got gear this way, since my size was unique)

I may be the only person who kept all my stuff, but then again, I'm a graduate, donor and season ticket holder too, so it's not like my job was my only tie to USF.

  17. It's not me selling them, but I sort of wish it was. There are all sorts of bargains out there, and if someone see's something that is offered for sale under market value, then more power to them to buy it and resell it. The charity got a donation, set a price for the donated items, sold them and took the money to fund their cause.

How is this different from finding something valuable at a garage sale, flea market or store and buying it for yourself?

Now asking the coach to authenticate the items is going to far, because his effort was to help a charity and not the ebay seller.

Now, I really don't think any of the Skip gear is valuable as a collectible, but they are nice items to wear if you were an XL. $49.99 is too high for used clothing in my eyes, but if I was an XL, I would certainly pay $20 for some cool pullovers with a neat story to tell at the bar when you were wearing them. (and since I haven't been a size XL since I was about 12 years old, I am not in the market)

I can't tell you how many 1997 USF Football programs and schedules I saved from being thrown into a dumpster, and I have no regrets when I throw a couple up on ebay every now and then.

  18. I was really hoping that for the Senior Game we went to gold helmet, green jersey and green pants. Just like the old days. Uniforms are a big part of tradition. It would be nice to see some consistency. NO GOLD PANTS!!!

Gold is one of our schools colors. Agree that green pants should be worn with the green jersey, but the gold pants should not be taken away. Wear them on the road.

I'm not huge of wearing gold pants on the road because we have to wear white jerseys, and no matter the helmet, we end up looking like another school that is white/gold or something.

Add a green stripe to the gold pants, and they could be a cool item they keep for special occasions, kinda like the Nebraska Blackshirts or something. I still think all green at home works the best, encourages the green out theme, and gives us a consistent home thing we can be proud of. Plus the all green is darker and more menacing than white and gold stuff. Watching videos of JPP and Selvie and others wearing all green (gold or green helmet is fine) just looks so awesome.

Pretty sure Nebraska has never worn blackshirts ... those are practice jerseys that are given to defensive players as an honor for their toughness (and have to be earned) ... but not a game jersey.

Let me correct myself, those are practice gear for the first team defense. They ended the tradition in a couple of the lean years, but have brought it back. Still pretty sure they have never worn black in the last 50 years (can't comment on what they might have worn 80-100 years ago.)
