  1. JVwvu, there's nothing to stop media outlets from talking to a recruit on an official visit. NCAA by-laws say a school cannot do anything to publicly promote an athlete coming on an official visit, nor can they facilitate an interview with a media outlet during an official visit. As a general rule, I don't like interrupting a visit, but everybody does things differently.

Yes, Greg - as most of our media does, though a few (of ours) wait till minimum they get to airport as they have been warned they will be even more limited if not.

[if they were playing tomorrow], the outlook would be bleak for the starting quarterback, whether it be Paul Millard (the current favorite), Ford Childress or the man at the game considering joining the competition, ex-Florida State QB Clint Trickett. (So you know, the media was discouraged from interviewing Trickett by WVU, which sent out NCAA Rule 13.10.5 to those attending. The rule says, "a member institution shall not publicize (or arrange for publicity of) a prospective student-athlete's visit to the institution's campus." Word, though, was the visit was going very well. Trickett is returning today to Tallahassee, Fla.)

  2. I sent CK a link to the WVU Spring game as it sounds he is interested in seeing comparision of existing QBs because again it makes a huge part.  I will know more tonight or tomorrow morning as I have had some family emergencies to deal with today that will limit me going to game to talk so I will have to wait for text, calls, or the site I post on.

  3. Do I see it, yes, because he grew up here, his extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins) and friends are still here. And Millard is so far in front of Childress per the guy saying so that I see Trickett getting 50% of the snaps once he steps on campus. As Millard will probably transfer down since Childress is not ready.

Let me restate "commit" as being possibly even applying/scheduling classes.

  4. I was told he will be here today and commit.

Then will watch spring game. Ckpaorrt has alot of good basis for QB but Ford is behind Millard right now and we picked up our 2014recruit QB in William Crest.

I expect Trickett to start 2 years here then Crest will compete with Childress for starting job.

  5. The one thing I did find out tonight is Tony Gibson is recruiting Trickett for WVU, he recently rejoined WVU's staff after a year at Zona with RichRod, and worked with Rick Trickett from 01-06 before Trick went to coach at FSU with Jimbo. How is that relationship, I dont know I do know that Trick and Rich did not get along that great at the end.

  6. I've seen you get a fair amount of abuse on this board and take it in stride.  Is this really the thread that's going to cause you to go off?

C'mon, you guys got off the sinking ship of the BE/AAC, let us have this one.

It just seems to be Bulldinkle that aggravates me, others I normally can have actual conversations with.

  7.

Oh jesus, now we have to deal with the WVU propaganda machine for the next 2 weeks.

FU - and yes we have a grad school and many quite good ones, one of which I was at.

Did they teach you in that "Grad" School, never to end a sentence with a preposition?

I did not go to learn to type/write (I get a secretary to do that for me) I went to school to build **** and make alot of money and learn to manage it.

  8. So you're saying he'll be a Bull?

I dont know I have not followed the Bulls spring practices (have not had alot of time following WVU's) so I dont know your QB situation but when I mean "giving him a true chance" is basically telling him, you are coming in and taking at least 50% of the snaps in summer practice.  (That is what he would get at WVU because whoever loses our job with him coming imo is going to transfer, thus meaning who wins our spring QB job with our Spring Game Sat)

  9. Does he stand a chance to start at WVU? He was the backup in the ACC...how is he supposed to be even better in a tougher Big12 conference? I see his family is from there and he has ties there but you'd think just from a playing perspective he'd want to go where he could play, and play well.

Of course I'm biased and just want him here. If they're saying WVU has a huge hole in the QB slot.....we've got a freakin crater

Yes he has a very good chance to start at WVU, right now we have a battle going on better a RS Freshman Ford Childress and the True Junior Backup to Geno Smith of Paul Millard, neither are truely impressing.  Childress has all the capability/pedigree of being a NFL QB (his dad played in NFL), but the question is does he really want it is out there.  The other is a Early Enrollee in Chavis Rawlins would probably ends up at WR/QB.  I think if Millard does not win starting job he will transfer to lower division and still have 2 years to play in 3.

Trickett is smart, his brother is already learning as a coach and most see Clint as a future offensive coordinator somewhere soon.  He is very tied here and actually made the comment that it was his dream to play at Mountaineer Field while at FSU.  He grew up on the field with his dad.

I have been told he will visit USF first, then come up here afterwards to meet with staff.

Now does he come, we will see I put it 65% at WVU and 35% at USF.  The only way he goes to USF if he knows Taggart is going to give him a true chance at winning the job and starting.

(We also have mutual friends with Trickett  family (who stay with them in Tallahasse for games, if I see them this week (heading your alls way next week)I will ask)

  10. ESPN has no say in B1G and in 2016 when new contract is up for them. Fox or NBC (also why they did not want to spend fortune on NBE) will end up with their Tier 1 and Fox will be producing their Tier 2 and 3.

B1G will more than likely be 16 or 20. B1G and SEC (CBS Tier 1) will be selling their network Tier 2&3 and need populations to subscribe to unlike Big 12 and PAC 12 who sell their rights for Fox to broadcast them all.

If they don't break the ACC by June 2013 for 2014 season, then Big 12 is next and possibly SEC. I could see Mizzou and Kansas in B1G, then it's up to Texas (issue being LHN/ESPN),, join as an Indy like ND in ACC or join B1G with ND and BC (hockey inventory and Boston market) along with someone else (possibly Oklahoma?). SEC then replaces Mizzou with 1 (WVU) or goes to 16 with 3 (WVU, OU, OSU)

Conf Expansion has a lot to do with SEC, B1G network expansion and the Fact FOX is giving the proverbial Finger to ESPN and telling them to buckle up.

Also if you take in B1G/PAC 12 allegience (Rose Bowl) their could be a 32 team "league".

  11. Very good summary. Now, if we had some sort of timeline as to when the winds of change will start blowing a bit harder, that'd be just peachy keen.

I also liked the 'one from column A and two from column B' contract trip wire. Smart attorneys out there in media land.

Most of the conferences want to be at their numbers by 2014 kickoff so most think June 30 2013 is date by which things happen if it's ACc that goes down.

  12. The JSi â€@JSi07

Let me be more specific, there hasn't been a vote yet on FSU. Sorry for confusion

This guy is the more knowledable & reasonable of the bunch (The Dude or MHVer), he is Eerlaw11 on BGN site and hosts the radio show with The Dude.

FSU has a 5 year AAU plan that they presented to B1G hell WVU has a 10-12 year AAU plan (believe it or not WVU in healthcare and energy is huge in research, and more money is coming in by the day in those 2 areas).  Now what happens I dont know but if you follow OSU guys (Prez Gee comments), they are still looking at expansion, does FSU get in I dont know but from a football stand point them and Georgia Tech (Academic/research partner) is a homerun pair, imo.

Remember USF, Cincy and UConn have already made presentations to Big12 when UL and Rutgers did so the Big 12 does know what those schools bring to the table.

(Also remember ProFootball Talk & College Football Talk has a big WVU presence with Mike Florio (grad living in area) and Ben Kercheval (Dad is part of Mountaineer Sports Network)

  13.

    (1) When has Fox done anything that had you believing this? They just told the football side of the BE to piss off in favor of the Catholic 7.

    (2) Is ESPN/Fox forward enough to pay the Big 12 $40 mil a year extra? You have to makeup lost TV revenue somewhere

    (3) The Big 12 TV contract is a joint venture with FOX and ESPN. Technically they both have 1st tier rights for 15 years... So it wouldn't just be Fox here

    (1) When has the BIg12 stated they would HAVE to pay USF and UCF a full share? I bet that you've seen nothing.

    (2) See (1) USF and UCF maybe wouldn't get a full share, maybe they get more than they have now, but no where near $20M each. Both would probably jump at $10M. It's possible to restructure any deal to fit what they want.

    (3) ESPN could raise thier amount to USF and UCF from $3M to $5M each, and Fox could cover the other $5M.

    Nothing is set in stone!

I crossed the PAC-12 and Big 12 deals. My fault.

That being said, there are a lot more assumptions being made by some people to get USF and UCF to the Big 12. Rumors of our inclusion all are back alley message board rumors with zero legs.

I'd love it. I think USF should offer drastically less money to the Big 12 to get in. Push like hell.

Reality is reality though. Major media outlets have put out reports that fhe Big 12 has looked at UL, Cincy, and BYU and passed. They've tried to grab FSU, Clemson and Notre Dame. They haven't expanded, and have said they're content to sit at 10.

It's just not likely at this point, and won't be a possibility until the Maryland exit gets hammered out.

Should the ACC get raided, we'll be a prime candidate there. Conference expansion hasn't been about market size or potential. It's about what you can bring to the table, and now. The Big 12 added backwoods West freaking Virginia.

Again I'd love to be in the Big 12, that's just some people hoping for someone to rescue us from this demotion.

And that backwoods W freaking Virginia brings better national TV numbers than USF and if a conference network would happen WV would bring in subscribers from the state of WV, Pittsburgh, DC Metro and the state of NJ.  Why because at 30k enrollment per year and only 1.4 mil people in the state, ALOT of alumni are shipped out of state or out of staters coming to WVU.  WVU out of state tuition and board is cheaper for a New Jersey student than Rutgers with boarding.
