****, still a great throw....
Best throw I've seen this year.

We have no size, the d-line and o-line are just being pushed around. I put this on Strong, He should have been able to recruit better than this.
-
We are winning the field position battle.
-
It's pretty evident, we don't have a QB this year. Fortin might gt better with some more reps. Time to see who develops over the course of the season.
-
Well, Fortin did pick an open receiver and threw the ball strong.

How did cjs think this kid was ready to start?
I'm betting this is just desperation in trying to find a QB. Well, the experience should help for next year.
-
Marsh is not ready at all, first pass was knocked down and almost intercepted the two were intercepted.
-
Well, the first two passes weren't very promising
-
I don;t expect a lot out of Marsh he is true freshman
-
Wow, Marsh is the starter
-
Hopefully, there will be some improvement but with the number of players out its not very likely. Just viewing this year as a chance to see if there is some development and improvement over the course of the year.

And the announcers added that ECU was the voted the second worst team in the conference - just above South Florida.
Well, at least we beat the bad FCS team we played.
-
Ga St 448 yards and ECU only 270. ECU has the time of possession advantage but has given up a lot of big plays.

BiggTipp is the leader at 90% at3:25.

Why aren’t they using the quick tests?
Canceling this game seems irrational.
Because USF health is doing the tests. Using the traditional method takes a bit longer but then you don't have to pay for the test kits, which are only one use anyway.

Well in the presser yesterday CJS stated that the QB in conference play will be treated as a starter but that doesn't mean they will be the starter for the season. What it means is that they will not switch out QBs every couple of series but will allow them to show what they got. So no, we really do not have a starter. I didn't hear the full question and the questioner might have asked specifically about Fortin but, I thought it interesting that the first two QBs he mentioned were Fortin and Marsh (in that order). A few sentences later he mentioned McCloud and Johnson, almost as an after thought. I suspect that if Fortin is ready to go he will be the starter.

Career Defensive Records
Since the FAU game looks like it will not be played I have decided to fill the time with another quiz. I have included a couple of questions on punt and kickoff returns. Everyone tends to think of them as offensive plays but technically they are defensive plays since the play starts with the opposing team having the ball. These are career records and a few of them go back some years so it may be more challenging than thought.

I thought he said he has seen a clear answer coming out of camp
What CJS actually said is that he saw some separation. He did not say there was a clear answer nor did he say that they were ready nor did he say that this separation occurred because someone stepped up. He could have very well have meant that none of them are good enough but one is not quite as bad as the others. In fact, he said coming out of camp that the team is not ready for the season yet, it will take some more time. You need to learn how to read coach speak. CJS basically told us that the QB situation and the team is not good but phrased it so that he is not throwing the team under the bus.

I actually thought the offensive game plan was decent. Late replacements on the OL, which reduces the amount of work they had together and the level of coordination between them. Run blocking is easier than pass blocking so an inexperienced line that has not played together before should do a lot of running plays. In addition, both QBs are not that familiar with the offense and they need to obtain confidence in their OL. They also need to obtain confidence in the play selection. Short passes which have a high probability of completion allows QB confidence and OL pass blocking skills to develop. That the OL needs to work on blocking is evident by the way the OL underperformed when Marsh was in the game late. This is pretty much what we saw in this game. I expect the team do a few more long passes but still keep a primarily short passing game against ND. We might see a couple more slants but the game will be mostly short passes and running. I have always thought that a good OC develops their game plan around the strengths and weaknesses of their team while calling plays that minimizes weaknesses and develops strengths. This is pretty much what CCW was doing.

The good: Defensively we were disciplined for the most part. RBs were good and show a lot of depth.
The mediocre: QB play was efficient 18 -25 1TD no interceptions McCloud QB rating 125.1, Johnson 125.4. No long passes. Not sure if that is because of the pieced together offensive line, passing philosophy, or lack of ability.
The bad: Usf does not have a backup kicker. The punter was doing the place kicking.
The ugly: ESPN coverage was bad. Not sure if the commentary was watching the same game I was. First down line was off noticeably, once it was slanted, a second time it was moving. "Crowd noise" was delayed and not matching the play on the field. Seriously, no crowd reaction after a USF touchdown? Makes me wonder if the first down marker person was also responsible for crowd noise and how much they had to drink with dinner.

Well in the QB battle neither one has really stood out. Looks like we gotta hope for Fortin being good or its a long season and back to the drawing board.
-
Funny hearing the "crowd reaction" its about 3 - 4 second behind the play.

I think each QB is getting 2 series then sit, hoping someone takes over. The QB situation is not good (massive understatement).
