  1. What does being a travel partner or rivalry have to do with them being in the same conference?

I think you completely missed my point

Travel partner has very little to do with Football.  Football is revenue generating and there are only a handful of conference road games.

The travel issues is a little dicier for basketball, but manageable.  It's when the soccer, softball, baseball, track, cross country, tennis, and golf teams have to travel for conference games it gets bad.  Some of the schools, Baylor and Texas Tech in particular, are in the middle of ******* nowhere.  There may not be more than a single direct flight from Tampa to any of those schools.  So that's tons of travel time.  Having a travel partner would be a nice benefit (ask WVU).

  2. WKU fans are still on their board(s) upset they aren't playing a P5 team and had to settle for nobody USF.

They are in the exact same vein as us.

This is a game that they probably have an equal chance at winning or losing.  The opponent is pretty good, but JQP will immediately write off a win as,  “Obviously you won you played an overrated opponent.”  Beating 6-6 Auburn would be more respected than beating 11-2 (!) WKU or 8-4 USF.  It is what it is.  The truth is this should be a pretty good game between evenly matched teams.

Hopefully we avoid the tirades from people lambasting the extension because we lost to “some terrible” Sun Belt team.  WKU is a good team.  The same people will also join the public narrative and give USF no credit because WKU is and “overrated” Sun Belt team.  It’s a lose-lose situation all around.  Hopefully we win-lose-lose, though.

  3. I would be fine with Harlan giving him a raise tomorrow if Willie offered to refund a portion of his original deal based on the body of work from his first two seasons. Seems like a fair compromise.

You do realize that was all on Skip Holtz and not Taggart, right?  Skip and Woolard should be the ones to handing money back to the University.  Nobody was going to win in year 1.  Could someone have done better in year 2?  Sure maybe, but we're here in year 3 at 8-4 from nothing and you're complaining?

  4. Pay him $3 million a season like Houston is trying with Tom Herman and maybe we have a chance to hold onto him.  He's not going to stay at USF for $2M a season with a $3-4M a year offer on the table.  It would be stupid of him to even consider.  If he's making $3M at USF, it's easier to turn down a $4M dollar deal, but it might be possible.  $4M is still a big number for a lot of P5 teams to throw around.

  5. nope... how would you feel if a couple thousands fans where begging you to stay?

An extra $2,000,000 a year would overshadow a lot of trepidation.  Getting to hold onto guys like Woodie and Allen would go a long way as well.

You're overselling the fan voice.  It doesn't mean nothing, but it also doesn't mean much.

  6. Missouri is a different job.  Taggart can't simply out recruit everyone and get a more talented team.  Missouri will never be more talented than Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, etc...  They can have better positions and enough match up advantages to win some games, but they will never be head to toe better than the majority of the SEC.  It's a lot easier to convince a guy to go to USF than sit on an SEC bench or go to an Iowa State than convincing a kid to play at Missouri than Alabama.
