  1. Dose anyone know what is going to be done to mark the event.

Not sure... I remember there being buzzing about it when I was there, but I think they will be doing most stuff with the start of the 2006-2007 school year, since I believe the University began with the school year in the fall of '56.

In other anniversary news, this coming year will also be SuperBull X, the tenth football homecoming and football season.

(and of course, 40 years of the great University of Maryland, Baltimore County!)

  2. To change the subject, all USF fans need to thank Frank Solich/Ohio University and Bill Callahan/University of NE for beating the Pitt Panthers or USF plays in Detroit this season.

And USF playing in Detroit would be optimistic--Motor City had no obligation to pick up a Big East team with fewer than 7 wins. They could have still taken Memphis and left us sitting home.

  3. DRUMMERBOY-ISN'T MEINEKE BOWL A MID ATLANTIC BOWL?

we need to beat the crummy teams in the big east

Regionally, no. Charlotte is in the South. the mid-Atlantic region is roughly Northern VA (DC Suburbs and such) through about mid-Jersey, encompassing parts of VA, DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

  4. TBDBITL is Ohio State, not Texas.

And I'm not impressed with Tennessee's band.  The Million Dollar Band is much better.

I'm well aware TBDBITL is The Ohio State. Texas' walking--er--marching band doesn't impress me much. I was giving different examples, but kept Tennessee as the constant because of the poster to whom I was making the point.

And as was said above, to RockyTop--Yup! Band geek (I prefer band dork, but I won't split hairs) and proud of it!

  5. I'd like to see a bowl come into being somewhere in the mid-Atlantic... M&T Bank Stadium or Lincoln Financial, for instance. It would be ideal for an ACC/Big East matchup and still very doable for the Big Ten, MAC, or even SEC. As it stands, the bowl we just came from is the farthest north of any on the Eastern Seaboard.

  6. if you think HOT is anywhere near the Pride of the Southland you are on crack....  ::)

Yes, RockyTop, we know. They're not the Pride of the Southland. And they're not TBDBITL. And you know what else? our football team's not Tennessee (this past year not withstanding). And we're not Texas. But the HOT did pretty **** good, certainly won halftime and the whole daggone game this past weekend, and as one of their biggest "constructive criticizers", I'm proud to say that MY band (in the "my team" sense) is coming into its own as a college marching band in its 6th year of existence.

  7. Since that's home, I'd like to see it continue ... assuming interest grows as well.

    So here's les questions:

    1. Having 'been there, done that' would you go back to the Car Care bowl (assuming, of course, one of the participants was USF)?

    2. Do you think attendance would increase or decrease the second time for us in Charlotte? Why?

    1. I'd go back for USF, and if USF were to not go anywhere, I may go anyway if it's a matchup worth saying

    2. I think it depends. Outside of the BCS, we've really only got two other concrete bowl game options: Insight and Gator. So if we have a decidedly better season (let's say, 9-3) and Gator Bowl gives us the shaft (and honestly, Insight would be foolish to invite us at this juncture, I don't think we're ready to travel in huge numbers cross country) and MCC gives us the bid, I think we'd be glad to show up. But if it were another situation like this year, I'm not sure as many of us would "settle" for this bowl; it would show no progress whatsoever.

  8. Rooting for West Virginia. Doesn't save the fact that the BE is the worst BCS conference, but at least saves a little face.

That being said, T-Man, you acted like it was an unreasonable question... being a fan of a Big East team doesn't make one a fan of the Big East. Especially considering it's also a "given" that one should hate Florida... why not root for an enemy of an enemy?

  9. being #1 transfer is certainly a positive--it means that when people choose to switch universities, it's to USF they choose to come. This means either that they screwed up or didn't fit elsewhere, but just as likely it means that our standards are high enough that people start elsewhere to get credits and GPA up and transfer in. It runs in direct opposition to the thought that we're a second choice university--on the contrary, it's more of a "final answer".

  10. One thing bothered me however.........I thought it was in somewhat bad taste that the HOT made it a point to shout "We don't need no education" during the Pink Floyd song at halftime.  I know that it is a part of the song, but I found it somewhat embarrassing, considering that we are representing a school, and that the only part of the song that was vocalized was this one.  There were a few Bulls fans around me that shared the sentiment.  I was just waiting for an NC State fan to pipe up w/ something smart to say about it, but they missed the golden opportunity.

Someone in my section quipped afater that line, "That's why I go to NC State"

  11. Most of the NC State fans I meant were great.  I did have some guy in the bathroom after the game say, "How'd those Bulls work out for you?" and then laugh like he said something funny.  I wish I could have met some of you guys there.  I was only able to go up and come back on the same day.

I plan to be in Chapel Hill next year and hopefully one home game.  I hope to meet some of you then.

SC, I may just see you there. I'm over in Greensboro and definitely intend to hit the Chapel Hill game next year.

  12. Yeah, the first down annoyed me as wel. I did hear the announcer attempt it once, he left a space and then said "first down" later when he didn't get the response he was looking for. Clearly, though, he was leaning red, given the fact that he still stated it in their format, stating another "Wolfpack/Bulls _______" for a first down response, vs. a "First Down, _______" for a BULLS! response.
