  1. I ended up in the therapy center parking lot a couple blocks down from the old paved lot, set up a decent tailgate too, corner of himes and woodlawn basically, just before you get to the WFTS ABC building

Was it the parking lot that has lab corp and a bank (Iberia bank)?

If so, how much was parking and at what time did they allow people to start parking? Thanks.

  2. I first became aware of this back when season ticket and parking renewals were sent out. When I saw that lot 14 wasn't on the list of "cash overflow areas", I called and was confirmed that it was closed. Five months later we were still hoping that it would be open. Then the official tweet came out late Friday night to dash those dreams.

The backup plan was to go to HCC and then we were turned away because they didn't open until 4pm. We ended up in lot 8/10 which was horrible. You are flagged to your spot, grass lot, mud due to the recent rain and a lot of our folks had ant bites. More than 2/3 of our group were spread out in different lots. It was miserable considering what we were used to in lot 14. We want paved lots and plenty of room to tailgate and throw a football. I plan on calling RJS this week to see if HCC opening 3 hours before kickoff is standard. On their site it's listed under "5 hours before kickoff."

Been at lot 14 since '01. Sad tailgating day yesterday.... That's for sure.

  3. Very interesting... and potentially controversial. I like it!

New policy to expedite time to degree

A new proposed policy aimed to keep the time to graduation within four years seems fairly intuitive.

“Students who have completed all the requirements for their degree will be required to graduate,†the policy proposal states.

Yet other parts of the policy may raise eyebrows.

“A lot of students will look at it and say ‘that’s mean,’†dean for undergraduate studies Bob Sullins said. “That’s not our intention.â€

Sullins said the policy is intended to help students graduate on time — something USF has faced recent pressures at the state level to improve.

After USF faced a harsh line of questioning about its 34 percent four-year graduation rate and 52 percent six-year graduation rate from the Board of Governors (BOG) last year, early indications from the Legislature suggest that some of the funding provided to the State University System this year will be allocated between the 12 public universities based on performance. While the metrics have yet to be determined, graduation rates are a recurring metric that surface at BOG meetings.

While the new policy will ensure that students who meet their requirements for their degree aren’t “floundering around,†Sullins said the policy is geared to help students who may have trouble staying focussed on their degree.

Those who want to add a major will be required to do so before reaching 96 credits, and the request to add a second major will be approved provided that the student can finish his or her degree within a maximum of 10 total semesters at USF. Students who want to change their major within the first two years must be able to finish within 10 semester, and those who wish to change their majors during their seventh or eighth semester at USF “should be encouraged to stay in their current major and finish that degree program,†and should only be approved to change majors by exception only, the policy states.

Those who have completed more than 120 credits will not be able enroll in courses not required for degree completion, with exceptions to be approved on individual case by case bases.

Sullins said USF will also adopt a tracking system similar to one used at the University of Florida, which has a 67 percent four-year graduation rate and an 85 percent six-year graduation rate, to create eight-semester plans by major for first time in college students and four-semester plans for those with AAs.

The system is one which is accessible by both students and academic advisers and alert students and advisers if a student is falling off-track, either by GPA or credits. A hold is placed on an off-track student’s account until he or she meets with an academic adviser.

Sullins said while some students have issues with focus, a large population of USF students work full-time to support themselves while they’re in school.

USF Provost Ralph Wilcox said other students just need a little more prodding.

“They enjoy it so much here,†he said. “They can’t leave.†

  4. I don't think we will get a higher profile coach than what Skip was when he came in, but that doesn't make this a mistake

skip holtz was not a high profile coach

Agree, why do people continually dismiss the fact that we beat his Ars! in a bowl game? What's so High Profile about that? Oh, his last name is Holtz

I heard Todd Wright talk about how he isn't emotional and is unbiased but then turns around and says USF couldn't get the top 50 candidates on their list.

Really Todd.....you aren't biased and you say 50? FIFTY? It would be hard to find 50 coaches to mark off.

Everyone wants to pile on, yet.....how many coaches would line up to accept $1.5 million or whatever it will end up being.

You know who had a lower salary than Skip Holtz last season? Al Golden at Miami. Mike Riley at Oregon State. Rich Rod at Arizona. Hugh Freeze at Ole Miss. Joker Phillips at UK. Pat Fitzgerlad at Northwestern. David Shaw at Stanford. ISU's coach. And then just about every coach in the Big East, CUSA, MWC, WAC or Sun Belt.

+1. And no state income tax in Florida...

  5. That's good news. The Mrs wanted to stay home and put out stuff for a garage sale that day and thought she'd miss the 'cuse game. Now she gets to do both.

Same here... just curious, do you live in a neighborhood with the initials WH (two words)?

Ours is having one on the same day.

  6. Just spoke to them as well (regarding why my cc hadn't been charged yet)

Yes, tickets were going to be offered with code but the code was (obviously) leaked. Season ticket holders can go on and request on their account.

Rep said game should be sold out by end of this weekend.

It might be sold out but what they are doing defeats the purpose of pulling down the "code"

Season ticket holders are buying extra seats so they can most likely sell them to people who want them, and after last night most of the people that want them are FSU fans.

Yeah, I know there are season ticket holders who are going to sell to anyone, but there are some that want to bring other Bulls fans. It's better than just giving a code out to all the Noles that want it.

Agreed.. my extra 4 will be USF fans...

You can't control who they sell the extra tickets to, but at least they made an effort to block FSU from directly buying them.

  7. This is great news, only issue is that USF is out of space on campus to build any more on-campus housing... hopefully they choose to expand the campus now vs. trying to open another failed satellite campus in BFE that will just end up seceding anyway.

USF needs to expand north and west...

What? There is plenty of room to build more dorms on campus.

Isnt the plan at some point to demolish the older Andros buildings and build more mega-dorms like Juniper-Poplar?

Yes that is the current plan... they are slated to demolish the old Andro's complex and replace it with some kind of a new dorm and a strip of shops (Publix, restaurants, and some small shops)... there is a rumor that Gray's bookstore will move over to the new shops.

Woah... this is my first time hearing about the shops. Publix, really?
