Never have and never will. That's the definition of most of usf basketball history in a nutshell. 3 NCAA Tournament Appearances. 2 wins. 1 conference tournament title. A handful of guys with a cup of coffee in the NBA and one guy who hung in the league a decade.

We played in the Sun Belt, Metro, C USA and the Big East and the above is all we got. Maybe it's time to do things differently.

 Try telling that to the big time boosters like Mr Ramil and Mike Charles and see what they say. They will always go with ethics. That is what USF stands by and will continue to stand by. Now if you become a big time booster like them you can have your say of how USF should run things.

Does anyone know if we hired Pearl if we could put a clause in his contract that states if he gets us in trouble with the NCAA he can be fired with cause thus we wouldn't have to pay him?

 It is because the SEC has no shame in hiring slimeballs like that. He fits right into the Sorry Ethics Conference. Pluse that conference has tons of crappy teams that he will pile up wins right when he gets there. All he has to worry about right now are UF and UK. The rest of the teams in the SEC are a joke. The AAC is a much tougher conference in hoops top to bottom.

I would turn into Vega II and call for Pearl's head since day one. No worries though because I know that USF is not interested in that type of person. Never  has and never will be. USF would have to find a lot of currupt boosters to change that mindset at USF. USF has boosters that pay tons of the bills and they are big on ethics at USF. Noone will change their mind. This has nothing to do with me and if you call for a coaches head from day 1 then you are in a category all your own. I still would like for you to answer the question, would you stop being an USF hoops fan if Pearl were to become the head coach?

 

 

Lets get this straight, I am a USF fan 1st and foremost. I support all that is USF. I seriously doubt that Pearl would ever get a chance to coach at USF because that is just not how it is done here at USF. You should know that by now. It would be very hard to root for USF knowing all that Pearl has done in the past. Yes, it is the past. A tiger does not change strips, and Pearl is that tiger that would get USF in trouble with the NCAA.  Bringing in scum like Pearl would risk losing a lot our major big dollar donors and USF will not take that risk. 

 

You are right!!!! That is not the USF way!!!! I live and breathe USF 24/7 and I don't know if I could support Pearl!!! But if Pearl is hired I will support him because I support the university!!!

I wish you guys would do a google search on Pearl.. There are more quality coaches out there than that slimebag... Sad that you guys would rather have a famous face that has no ethics than I guy with a quality background like Howland, Buzz Williams, Mike White, and such... Pearl is a love him or hate him guy and I don't think he has a chance in hell of landing at USF... We've always hired coaches that have great values... Pearl would not be one of them...

I can tell you right now that USF will not condiser the following coaches as there has either been burned down bridges or too much dirt attached. 

 

Bruce Pearl - Scum bag to many in colllege hoops. Sure he wins, but in the end he will have USF in NCAA violations. He had problems at just about every place he went. No way do the big time boosters let him get the USF job. He is out!!!

 

Anthony Grant -  He was a top candidate to take the job after Seth Greenberg left. He interviewed with LRS. He looked at our facilities at the time and he said Hell no!!!!  He opted for VCU later on instead. No way USF goes to him twice and take a chance of getting told no twice. Bridge has been burned down, so he is out

 

John Pelphrey -- Similar response to what Grant gave to USF. John was a top candidate to take over after McCullum was fired. He visited to USF campus and got a tour of the facilities at the time. And he said Hell No!!! Ended up getting the Ark job. It was poetic justice to see Heath make the tourney with USF after being fired from Ark ( Because they were trying to get the Texas A&M coach but lost out to Kentucky so they ended up with Pelphrey) John was kind of had a snobbish attitude about USF at that time, so I dont see USF going after him again. Burned bridge so he is out

 

Martin -  This guy is very intense. He got in a little trouble for shoving one of his players at Kansas State. Do you think USF wants to have another Leavitt situation on the basketball court?? For that reason, I say he is out.   

 

 

So those are names that you can just forget about coaching at USF. 

 

Pearl is NOT a scumbag.  He's a great MBB coach that made a minor error at UT and is redeemable in my opinion.  He is the only one you list that I think is worthy of redemption.  USF needs redemption as well, so it's a match made in............well, made in somewhere other than heaven.

 

 

 Why dont you ask the Univ of Illinois about Pearl when he was an assistant coach in the BIG TEN? I am sure they would laugh at you sticking up for him. Also ask Boston College. He is not to be trusted and he has burned a lot of bridges. And if the big time boosters would not give Huggins the time of day for an interview at USF, there is no way in hell that they will give Pearl a look.  Sorry.

Greenshaft with some very harsh words for the basketball team

 

“It’s hard to tolerate mediocrity,†Genshaft said. “Especially with a university that’s on the move and everything else is moving forward except for our revenue sports. I’m really confident about Willie (Taggart) moving forward, but we’ve got to get basketball going.â€

 

Genshaft then paused before clarifying she meant men’s basketball, as women’s basketball has a chance at a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid pending a decision on Sunday. 

 

Laughing, she referred to the men’s basketball team and made a gagging noise, followed by a hand gesture of a gun to the head, indicating her frustration with the program.

Most professions ,job security, raises and contract extensions are based on several factors like performance, productivity, wins and losses, outcomes , ect...  

Stan has a losing record at USF 97 Wins and 128 losses in 7 seasons.  1 NCAA tourney appearance.

 

One could argue that not having Collins hurt us this season, but even if Collins played and we won EVERY game we played this year, Stan would still have a losing record overall with 1 NCAA tourney appearance.

 

USF invested millions of dollars( 35 Million on  the Sun dome and practice facility),Millions on his salary and asst coaching salaries,  He has had what many would say the best recruiting classes ever at USF and hasn't produced. The hype of the New Renovated Dome was wiped out opening day when Stan lost to UCif and  The team hasn't produced since.

 

Stan should feel fortunate that he has had Doug as his boss and got the extension and raise based on his performance.

The "give him 1 more yea"r crap  is old. One more year and we could be worse, (yes in theory we could be better) but its a crap shoot at this point. Nothing based on his 7 YEARS here at USF shows that improvement is likely. If we use his history or performance over the last 7 years, Next year should be worse.

 

He should be fired tonight, following the loss to Rutgers, (3rd of the year) (Rutgers had 1 road win this year I believe) made to find his own way back to Tampa. Doug should have his belongings packed up and sent to him by Fed EX(Since his last loss was at Fed ex arena).  He should be happy to sit home and collect millions for being told to stay away.

 

In my profession or many others if I had results like Stan I would be fired, sued ect... Imagine if Stan were a Surgeon and only 97 of his surgeries were successful out of 225?  You think my employer or patients would be saying give me another year?  Yes Coaching and the medical field are different but Stan's performance is based on Wins and losses and he isn't producing.
