  1. $29M raised

    $15M bright house

    _____

    $14M of $60M that is only 25%

you were bailed out by brighthouse and you are still $30M short.

this shaky accounting will comeback to bite UCF in the butt in the not so distant future.

There is still approximately 12 Million in outstanding donation oppourtunities for other parts of the stadium.

See link.  It is listed on page 10.

With that 12 million filled, that only leaves 18 million.  Also, the stadium is only 47 million.  The additonal 13 million was added in for moving baseball, soccer fields and roadways, etc.

Bottom line is that UCF will have the stadium paid off very quickly if they continue to exceed ticket sale projections and estimates in the feasability study.

  2. No need to get on my high horse again about the recruitment program at USF.....

A recent movie, Glory Road, had a great quote in the beginning, "You gotta recruit if you wanna win."

Someone at the Athletics Dept. needs to get their head(s) out of their @$$ and A)Expand the recruiting zone even more than FL, OH, NJ and AL  B)Conduct a full background check C)Conduct an academic review D)Conduct a psych eval E)Why not model our recruitent program after a Top 5 school so we [uSF] could become a tad bit better in this area of sports management!!!

    As always, GO BULLS!!!

No, and no, and the other is illegal.  The top 5 programs don't do this because most of what you are suggesting is illegal, and simply voluntary.  Kids would just opt for schools that didn't require it.

You can do criminal background checks on your football players, but you would have to do it for ALL students at the University.  It would be too costly for a University to do background checks on all students.

  3. Bueller??

I am curious myself.  How is recruiting going for USF so far this year?

UCF is rumored (by GOL) to have at least 7 commits so far.  5 of which have been confirmed by rivals to date.

This is obviously a great start for us this year.  Is USF sharing in similar success?

  4. Just read on ESPN that UCF will sign fat boy to 10 yr contract. He was asking for a million/yr. CJL will need a hefty boost or will be pissed.

Actually it is being rumored that it will be close to $20 million that he COULD make over the 10 years with added incentives, etc.

Sounds like the base will be 10 years/10 Million.

  5.   This feels to me like a rivalry already.  I despise UCF more than any other football program, every victory by them consumes me with anger.  Nothing would drive me crazier than seeing one of our recruits switching its commitment to UCF.  Any year that UCF makes it to a bowl game and we don't would be a depressing one.  And a UCF victory in a bowl game before us would drive me to the brink of madness.  I don't feel like that about any other team so, at least to me, this is already a rivalry.  Nobody outside I-4 cares now but they will 5 years from now.  Rivalries don't just happen, you have to schedule a team annually for it to develop, and both student populations have to care enough about the game to show up in force.

Seems to be a rivialry for some....

    and not for others.

I personally think that it has developed into the start of a rivalry.  If the game sells well this year and the series is continued, it will pretty much be sold as a rivalry from here on out, especially if UCF wins this year.

It is not about "Football Rivalry"  it is about an all sports, school rivalry.  These schools have been "rivals" for 20 years.

    Football is a new addition.

  6. The way I read this post, it seems as if MOST of the USF fans agree with the UCF fans that this really is or could be developing into a rivalry and is a good thing.  Especially for attendence.

Just because UCF and USF have only played 1 game in football doesn't mean that the schools do not already have a rivalry.

As mentioned above, they have played each other in sports for years, were both founded at about the same time, and compete for students every year.

With the attendance showing last year in Tampa and IF there is a large showing in Orlando, it would be STUPID of the administrations not to continue the game.

Leavitt himself said if the attendance is there it is a good idea.  Follow your leader....

  7. 6 wins makes you bowl eligible for now...NCAA is going to review it this summer, but for teh 2006 season 6 wins gets you eligible.

You may very well be right Joe, but the last NCAA legislation update I read said that a team must have a "winning season" to be eligible.  The 2002 and 2003 seasons (12 game) there was temporary legislation that said 6-6 record was was ok, but that legislation expired.

Do you have an NCAA link for the legislation?

    Thanks.

  8. Pitt has finalized its non-conference football schedule for 2006. The Panthers will play home games against Virginia, Michigan State, Toledo and The Citadel and play at Central Florida.

They will play seven home games and five on the road.

In addition to the four non-conference games, the Panthers will play host to Big East rivals Louisville, West Virginia and Rutgers.

They will play road conference games at Connecticut, Cincinnati, South Florida and Syracuse.

They will have losses to Virginia, Mich St and UCF for OOC.  ;D

  9. if usf wins next 3 games usf is clearly a top 20 team

I would agree with you smazza.

It is simply due to USf's missed/rescheduled games.  USF wins 2 of the next 3 and they should be getting some serious top 25 votes.

Now is UCF beats Rice and then UTEP in the CUSA Championship, UCF will also be recieving serious votes.

Both teams could end up ranked in top 25 at the end of the season if all plays out right.

  10. As a former player, I can say that Coach Leavitt is not one to overly run up a score on somebody.  Trust me when I say that he would love to win by 30 or 40, but everytime we get up by 28 or so, he starts to pull in the reins.  As far as this game is concerned, it will be a good game.  USF is in a position to try and really find out how good it can be and UCF  will be a completely different team playing against us then they have the last 16 games because this is what they have been looking forward to for 9 years.

    Prediction:  USF 30  -  UCF 17

USF will not score 30 points.  Not unless UCF has a few turnovers and USF D scores.

The game will hover around 20-23 points for both sides.
