Gainesville, FL A bases-loaded triple with two outs in the eighth by senior pinch hitter Tom Orlosky lifted South Florida to an 8-7 victory over No. 10 Florida in the opener of a home-and-home series on Tuesday night at McKethan Stadium. The Bulls (28-25) rallied from three different deficits to hand the Gators (32-16) their sixth loss in the past eight games. Freshman Ty Pryor worked 3.2 innings in relief, allowing three hits and a run, to improve to 4-3 with the decision. Senior Tim Mattison threw two scoreless innings to notch his seventh save. Junior Brian Baisley was 4-for-5 and scored three runs for USF, which will host UF tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Red McEwen Field. Sophomores Adam Davis (Fort Myers, Fla.) and Matt LaPorta (Port Charlotte, Fla.) provided the Gators with a 2-0 lead in the first inning with consecutive two-out home runs off USF freshman Blake Tillett. Davis extended his hitting streak to seven games by cranking a 3-2 offering into the left field bleachers. LaPorta followed with his SEC-leading 19th round-tripper to left, marking the fourth time this season Florida had gone back-to-back. USF answered with two runs on two hits and a Florida error to tie the game in the second. Senior Jeff Baisley cut the Bulls’ deficit in half by belting freshman Stephen Locke’s (Tampa, Fla.) first pitch of the inning over the left field wall for his seventh homer. Brian Baisley sliced a single into right and senior Jeremy Brand reached on an error to give the visitors runners on second and third with none out. After freshman Brad Karns grounded out to Locke, a RBI grounder by freshman Dexter Butler knotted the contest at 2-2. The Gators regained the lead in the home portion of the frame on a two-out single into right by Jeff Corsaletti (Port Charlotte, Fla.) that scored junior Justin Tordi (Orlando, Fla.). Tordi had drawn a walk with two down and advanced to third on a double into left center by freshman Jared Kubin (Oakton, Va.). Corsaletti collected his 41st RBI with a base-hit but Kubin was cut down at the dish. The Bulls seized a 4-3 lead in the third on senior Bryan Hierlmeier’s team-leading 11th homer of the campaign, a one-out shot to left. Locke had retired freshman Josh LeRoy on a ground ball before freshman Joey Angelberger came aboard on freshman Brandon McArthur’s (Seffner, Fla.) second miscue of the night. With one swing off the bat, Heirlmeier moved USF ahead by sending Locke’s first pitch out of the yard. South Florida had an opportunity to extend its lead in the fourth, when Karns walked and Butler singled into left center with one out. The Gators escaped the jam when junior Jeremy Bellotti lined out to Tordi, who flipped to Davis to double up Karns. Helped by three walks, Florida pushed across three runs in the bottom of the inning to move in front, 6-4. Sophomore Brian Jeroloman (Wellington, Fla.) poked a one-out single and Tillett issued consecutive walks to Tordi and Kubin to fill the bases. Corsaletti earned another base on balls to even the game, causing a pitching change. Sophomore Gavin Dickey (Tallahassee, Fla.) greeted Pryor with a two-run single and Davis reached on a fielder’s choice to fill the sacks again. Pryor worked out of further trouble by recording strikeouts of LaPorta and sophomore Brian Leclerc (Clearwater, Fla.). Locke was replaced by junior Darren O’Day (Jacksonville, Fla.) after allowing four hits and four runs (two earned) over four frames. The Bulls pulled to within 6-5 in the sixth on a pinch-hit double by junior Matt McHargue that scored Brian Baisley, who had poked a one-out two-bagger. After freshman Brandin Daniel delivered a pinch-hit infield single to give USF runners on the corners with one down, O’Day answered with a strikeout of Butler and induced a grounder by Bellotti that forced Daniel at second. Florida added a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to center by Jeroloman. Leclerc had led off with a single and was bunted over to second by McArthur. A wild pitch from Pryor moved Leclerc to third and Jeroloman’s second sac fly gave the Orange and Blue a 7-5 lead. Brian Baisley punched a one-out single in the eighth, ending the evening for O’Day (3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 K). Sophomore Steven Porter (Ocoee, Fla.) issued back-to-back walks to McHargue and Daniel to load the bases and was taken out. Senior Connor Falkenbach (Parkland, Fla.) caught Butler looking on strikes and Orlosky cleared the bases with a triple to right center to give the Bulls an 8-7 edge. In the bottom of the eighth, junior pinch hitter Stephen Barton (Miami, Fla.) and Corsaletti drew consecutive walks from freshman reliever James Rowe, who had replaced Pryor. The Bulls brought in senior Tim Mattison from the bullpen and the right-hander set down Dickey (popped up bunt), Davis (foul out to third) and LaPorta (strikeout) to stop UF’s potential rally. The squads finished with 10 hits apiece, with the duo of Dickey (2-for-5) and LaPorta (2-for-5) collecting multiple-hit efforts. USF did not commit an error, while Florida had three miscues and stranded 10 runners on base. Game Notes: Matt LaPorta climbed to fifth on the Gators’ all-time list with his 33rd home run and is now tied for fourth on the single-season chart. Florida has scored in the first inning 19 times in 48 games and has a 16-3 record in those outings. The Gators turned double plays to end both the fourth and fifth inning. UF committed multiple errors for the fourth game in a row. Andy Davis collected his first career hit at UF with a pinch-hit single in the ninth. --UF--

agreed..... I dont know what some of you guys have against the guy he has said nothing but good things about USF. Lets look at this logically A big Time Football recruit has a chance to start at a great SEC school and play in front of 70-90K week in and week out or he can come to USF prob start and play in front of 20K on a team with no history and a team that dosent load the NFL with players. I think If I were in Brent's shoes I would have gone to Tenn also, I mean I was upset that we didnt get him but he did what he thought was best for himself.
