AIMING HIGH: Coach Robert McCullum hopes to land two more players to fill out his incoming recruiting class, and the Bulls are impressively still in the mix for DeLand forward Keith Brumbaugh, who was named the state's Mr. Basketball after averaging 30.3 points and 12.0 rebounds as a senior.

Brumbaugh, who is strongly considering leaping directly to the NBA Draft, said Monday that if he doesn't go pro, he'll choose among USF, Florida and Southern Cal.

"I'm just waiting on a little feedback before I make a decision (about the NBA)," the 6-foot-8 Brumbaugh said. "But those are my three schools, and South Florida is definitely still in it. They've stayed on me throughout the recruiting process."

USF reportedly is lining up a campus visit with Dwight Burke, a 6-8 forward from St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J. Burke signed with East Carolina in November but was released after the Pirates fired coach Bill Herrion. He's visiting Marquette and South Florida, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Also due to visit Marquette is Jamil Lott, the North Dakota State College of Science forward who drew interest from USF last month. The Bulls are no longer pursuing Lott, NDSCS coach Craig Irwin said.

I thought this was very encouraging news....I think it would be great if this kid signed with us but even having him mentioning us is a step in the right direction

  2. Personally I think Cann is going to show not only us but every team that stopped recruiting him before his injuries that he can still play and play very well...I know I played him my senior year in high school when he was a freshman and he was the best player I had ever matched up with and that includes Casey Saunders who I played against as a freshman....His ability to be 6'6,6'7 and hit shots from anywhere made it very difficult to defend him

  3. Even if he decides to go to college and comes to play for us, chances are he would be here two years tops and then go to the NBA....While I do not have a problem with that at all because it will help our recruiting down the line, I believe Coach Mac is interested in having kids spend four years here to where he can have a OSU type line-up with 4 or 5 seniors down the line somewhere

  4. Personally, I like the roster as it stands and I will love it if we can land another 6-8 kid which I think we will....Coach Mac loves guys who can shoot the ball but he also loves rebounding and knows the importance of it....Whatever 5 are on the floor, they are all going to have to crash the boards since we will most likely not have a dominate rebounder...In my opinion, Coach Mac is doing one hell of a job

  5. I was just on the rivals site and came across a forward star from Texas who is no. 67 on the rivals top 150 and he lists us as one of his schools in the running..We have to compete with Ok. St. Auburn, FSU, Texas A&M, UNLV and Villanova

Has anyone heard anything on this guy?

  6. I think from reading about this kid, his basketball skills are great...Him coming here is not just a great decision for our team but also for him as an individual...Coach will no doubt mold him into a fine young man....And if we can land him, we might not have the throw freshman, Chris Howard, in immediatley at the point which would help out a lot

Tampa, FL (March 28, 2005) – After leading the University of South Florida women’s basketball team to the best record in its 33-year history, head coach Jose Fernandez has agreed to a new five-year contract, Athletics Director Doug Woolard announced Monday evening. The new deal will keep Fernandez at USF through the 2009-2010 season.

“We are pleased that Jose Fernandez will lead our women’s basketball program for the next five years, and into the future as we enter the BIG EAST Conference,†said Woolard. “Jose has done a tremendous job moving the program forward not just regionally, but on a national level as well.â€Â

“In addition, Jose shares the same goals that we in athletics, and at USF, share in trying to provide the best possible partnership for our student-athletes and women’s basketball team both academically and athletically.â€Â

Essential terms of the contract are a base salary of $125,000 per year; $10,000 for radio and television along with the use of a vehicle.

Fernandez will also receive an annual annuity of $20,000 provided he fulfills the terms of his contract.

“I’m very excited to be at USF for the next five years,†said Fernandez. “I’m also extremely pleased with the commitment that the athletic department has made to our program as we enter the BIG EAST Conference next season.â€Â

Fernandez, and the Bulls, enjoyed the best record in the programs history this season posting a 21-11 record, while also helping to guide USF to its second consecutive postseason berth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The Bulls advanced to the second round of the WNIT defeating Florida (61-56) before losing to Wake Forest (78-63).

During the record-setting season, USF almost pulled off the biggest upset in school history taking three-time defending national champion – and future BIG EAST Conference foe – Connecticut into overtime before losing to the Huskies 75-65. The game marked the first time in UConn history that the perennial national title contenders played in an overtime game in Gampel Pavilion.

The Bulls would finish the regular season winning seven of their last 10 games prior to the Conference USA Tournament. USF would then defeat Southern Miss (68-47) in the first round before losing to eventual tournament champion TCU (65-57) in the quarterfinals.

    Good news here
