  1. I may be missing something since I'm not local, but why doesn't the Tampa media push USF the way that Orlando does for UCF?  Don't they get that USF to the Big 12 is good for business (media and region)?  Am I missing something?  When I was local Greg always had great coverage.  I see some now, but not on same level.   Can we get some hometown support?

    Just one example

  2. Haven't read everything so if I'm duplicating an idea, my apologies.

I think one of the most overlooked advantages of bringing either USF and or UCF into the Big 12 is the impact it will have on other conferences and recruiting.  I'm not saying we will keep 5 star players from UF, FSU, or any of the true elite programs.  However, if you put the programs in a P5 conference you will see more 4 star and high 3 star players from FL stay home, as they will view both programs as having arrived.

This will make some of the ACC, Big 10 (not Michigan or Ohio State), and even some SEC programs have to look elsewhere for talent, in turn potentially weakening those conferences. Obviously big "if" but an argument could be made.

I know the argument was why couldn't USF do it in the Big East.  First, the program was too young.  2nd, the Big 12 (despite criticism) has true tradional power programs.  3rd, I believe it was beginning to happen prior to Leavtt's firing.

    Thoughts?

  3. He's going to be a HS senior, no transfer, he's just shopping his services. He was a 5* receivers, but got downgraded to 4* (we all know what *s are worth) by rivals due to the question of him being able to consistently catch the ball and the belief that he may be better on the defensive side.  Hes a remarkable athlete that needs to be molded into a high caliber D1 football player.  Its a very longshot that he would come here.

  4. He is ok. The thing is you are comparing him to Greg. Greg is an exceptional beat writer and should be more in my opinion. He does his job in a way that makes others look like slackers ... He's just on top of things. Look at his beat for the bucs now - just like with USF he has multiple posts, consistently tweeting tidbits, interacts with readers regularly. It's like comparing a hall of gamer with just a pro. The pro is good, but there's a gap between their skills/game.

  5. I hope it does mean something. Classes like this, hopefully with Henry, build depth. I keep hearing with Austin we would have been better, but that's not it. With depth we would have been better. Egbunu and Henry together would be ideal. Pair them with Perry and Ziegler (better than most realize) and you have nice pieces to add both talent and depth. LeDay is most likely never going to be a stud, but can be solid (good length and hustle) and Hawkins hopefully will develop (talented, but in my opinion needs work and a faster tempo to succeed) and you have 6 underclassmen that should contribute - building DEPTH. A class or two like this could energize a fan base that is dying for competitive. Depth helps you not have an NCAA season then a sub 500 team when you only lose a few pieces.

Stan please close this kid. It's last call and we're one "piece" short tonight (for this class). Pull out all the stops and take this one home. GO BULLS!

  6. didn't he have a #1 recruiting class and couldn't parlay that into a tournament win or a pac12 title? how is that going to translate to him being successful at usf? i mean, sure, kentucky has a top class this year and calipari isn't on the hot seat for failing so hard in the NIT, but from what i remember when was the last time ucla was really on top of things? 2006 when they lost to florida in the title game? (was howland their coach then?)

He was their coach then, and they won PAC 12 this year (or at least a share).

Good coach, seems to have lost a little fire. Could regain at next job but he's not coming here.

I agree with the bold statement. My question to you is if was possible, would you take Howland as the USF coach next season and beyond?

Honestly if it was realistic yes. I like a guy with a chip on his shoulder. If he feels like he has something to prove could be good. Probably only be a 3-4 year stay since he'd be looking for a "big" job, but I wouldn't mind him piling up some talent for a young hungry guy. He might even win sooner with the talent coming in (if we get Henry too).

I don't dislike Heath. Think he's a nice guy and a decent coach. I just don't thing he's got that chip. We've created an environment where if you don't completely fail you are safe and that creates a comfortable coach. Got to have a little discomfort with expectations.

We made a hell of a run last year and expect the team to improve next year, but I was hoping to see a better team this year. I know we lost Austin, but it's the coaches job to maintain depth and to be honest i only think we'd have been marginally better with him.

Just my two cents, not necessarily worth the two pennies though.

  8. We dont know th full story amd may never know it all. It could have been handled a bit differently, but it is what it is. NIf he's as good of a student as they claim then he should be able to earn a scholarship of sort. Help him find the remainder and let him be preferred walk on. Sometimes the truth hurts and if he's not good enough for a scholarship, why waste one. Life is hard and things happen.
