  1. well apparently most national merit scholars are idiots.... who in their right mind would take UF over Yale, Chicago, Stanford, etc??

Yes I would rather live in Gainesville than Orlando

And I do not regret going to USF over UF at all....  I could not fathom being one of the arrogant UF grads

In regards to your first question I think some of those kids are offered  full-rides to UF as opposed to  paying the 20,000 grand a year for Yale or some of the other schools.  Even a partial scholarship to some of those schools would still have you paying more than the full cost of a public university. When looked at in those terms it isn't so idiotic. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that they would be living Florida and the school has very good sports teams to follow also.

  2. I never contended that, my contention was the #1 ranking for public schools.... it may be true, it may not be.... I simply stated that it was hard to believe with other public intsitutions with more national prestige, reputation, etc

as for being a "usf guy"....  ill add the disclaimer that I was not only accepted to UF, but accepted into their honors program/school/college whatever it is called, just so I dont sound like a disgruntled UF reject.  Never applied to UCF, well, because it is in Orlando and that is enough of a reason

back on topic.... havent seen anything recently on Urban, but im sure he said something else stupid, so.... SHUT UP URBAN!

Are you saying that you'd prefer to live in Gainesville rather than Orlando as a city with schools not being a factor?

Here's a link to back up why uf is considered one of the top public universities in the nation. From what I can see you should have accepted that admission into their honors program.

  3. Most post spring polls I have seen have the Gators in the Top 5 which is slightly overrated but not much. They are a top 10 team, Chris Leak is going to be a Heismann candidate with the players he has to work with.  I think Miami is also a top 10 team returning so many incredible players. Wright at QB should have no problem eclipsing what Berlin was able to accomplish.  Florida State I would put in the top 15, Sexton ought to be able to improve upon last season. The rest of the poll is pretty accurate to me until these teams can prove otherwise.

  4. Do you know what the difference to you athletic gain is if you run in cold weather vs run in hot?  Care to take a guess?

Next to nothing.  At all.  There is no benefit to practicing in the heat.

Sure, the heat simulates SOME real games.  But practices are to facilitate learning, especially at this time of year.  It is much easier to concentrate when you're not worried about cramps etc.

Incidently, the reason USF players cramped at BAMA, and so on, is NOT because they failed to practice in the heat.  That's the most idiotic concept ever.  The reason is they did not hydrate appropriately the night before, nor did they get enough potassium.  They probably didnt even hydrate enough in-game.  It takes some intelligent preparation, but even a quasi-athlete can play in the heat for 3-4 hours without cramping no problem if they're smart about it.  If I can do it, I'm sure the actual collegiate football teams can too.  Sure, they're going against tougher guys than I did/do by far, but in theory they should be equal level to them :).

Practicing in the morning is a good idea, because it will help the players get the plays right via improved concentration.  Just another reason that while he might not be a pillar of morality, oleary is a good coach.

And he can eat donuts if he wants, after all HE doesnt have to contend with our defense next year anyway 8).

I don't know the science behind it, but wouldn't practicing in a certain environment be advantage over someone who has never experienced it? I mean if I train for the iditarod in Florida someone who does the same training in Alaska would be better prepared.

  5. I think Pat Carter will be a great WR in 2006 when he can actually play.  Plus, as you have also said many times, transfers are tricky.  They always have some kind of baggage and some do very well, and others don't amount to anything.

Amarri Jackson looks like a great athlete, that's no joke to set the long jump record in FL.

Pat actually would like to be a QB, thats what he played in high school and was the backup at GT.  They moved him to WR because the starting QB came in the same year as him.  I'm sure he'll compete for the QB position at USF, though he is willing to play reciever.
