What's the deal with NFL Europe?
Posted: May 13, 2005
By Michael Bradley
For Sporting News
Now that the NFL draft is over and Mel Kiper's hair has disappeared from our TV screens, fans face the prospect of more than two months without a football fix. That is, unless they tune in to NFL Europe, which not only will satisfy their football appetite but also could introduce them to some future NFL players.
You might not be familiar with members of the Berlin Thunder or Amsterdam Admirals. That's OK. You didn't know much about Adam Vinatieri or Jake Delhomme, either, when they were playing across the pond. We're not saying the next Super Bowl hero is playing in Cologne, but if you do your homework--and this is Lesson 1--you'll be ready when the next NFL Europe standout emerges in the NFL.
And besides, watching any kind of football is better than sitting through a baseball game, isn't it?
NATIONAL PRIDE
Each NFL Europe team has on its roster eight "national" players, code for non-NFL types from countries other than the United States. Players from Japan, Russia, Mexico, Finland, Sweden, France, Belgium, Germany and the United Kingdom dot the lineups. None has much hope of sniffing the NFL, although the current best of the bunch already has. Hamburg receiver Scott McCready was on the Patriots' practice squad in 2001 and '02 and is the only Englishman who has won a Super Bowl ring. He led NFL Europe with 59 catches last year, becoming the first national player to top any major statistical category. McCready is at it again this season. Through six weeks, he leads the league with 37 receptions.
hope he gets another chance in the nfl

Armwood's Anderson Eyes Options As MLB Draft Looms
Published: Jun 2, 2005
TAMPA - If Armwood High's R.J. Anderson is selected in the first five rounds of Tuesday's Major League Baseball draft, he said he will sign a professional contract instead of playing football and baseball at the University of South Florida.
``I'd rather go straight to professional baseball,'' Anderson said. ``It's something I've always wanted to do. If I don't go [before the sixth round], it's great to have a scholarship to fall back on. It's a win-win situation.''
A center fielder who hit .364 as a senior, Anderson's stock increased last week with an impressive showing at the FACA senior all-star showcase in Sebring, where he reportedly ran a 6.1 60-yard dash.
In football, Anderson was a two- time all-state cornerback. He was rated as one of The Tampa Tribune's top 50 state recruits. He was one of five defensive backs signed by USF.< <
how good are his chances to go in the top 5 rounds?

CJL getting around
« on: Feb 21st, 2005, 2:13pm » Quote Quote Modify Modify
Sorry about the stupid heading, but I was just curious about something and wanted to get everyones attention. I heard an interveiw with Urban Meyer and he was saying that when he was at Bowling Green and Utah he would get out and talk with the students. That he would goand speak with the fraternities, sororities, organizations, etc. He said he likes to do it all the time and it gets them excited about the season, the spring game, and it helps attendance (not that that will make a difference at UF). He also says that he is going to do it at UF as well. I don't think CJL does this I have been involved around USF for four years and haven't seen it done. I would like to. Does anyone know if he actually does this. It would be great around campus.

I really don't think Jim is into doing this kind of stuff. I'm sure it would help to gain interest from students, but I don't see coach doing a whole lot of this. You really have to be more of a Bullsh!tter and coach leavitt is more into giving his time to into practice and recruiting. i'm sure Sheriff can give us some info on this also.

With that heading and the name "starspangledpimp" it was anybody's guess what this thread was going to be about...

Hmmmm....it's pretty interesting that he was able to correlate his "walking and talking" with increased attendance. My guess would be that perhaps winning generates more turnstile activity than glad-handing by the head coach. I can see where that may be an issue at Bowling Green & Utah, but - as you pointed out - it's pretty much a non issue at UF.

Having a coach that is seen on campus and approachable is a great thing for any University, it was one of the many things that made spurrier so beloved at UF. I think CJL making his rounds on campus would pump up this University especially during football season, one thing we are in need of is an an image. The university is trying to give us one name, one brand identity, but it takes time and money. They are beginning on campus, and taking it from there. The biggest question when you ask people that haven't attended or are not closely related to USF is who are we? Are we USF or South Florida. Around Tampa we are USF, but if you watch any televised games we are South Florida. Having more recognizable faces for this University would do nothing but help. Don't give me that crap that he spends all his time recruting, etc. because we all know that the assistant coached do a majority of recruiting and the head coach is the closer. He is busy at game planning, studying, and practice, but he could take an hour out of each week to be on campus getting people excited about football and this university, in fact all coaches should it would make their lives easier as well.

All great points. CJL should be doing all he can to get people out to these games. Dorm visits, administrative office visits can only help. Shoot go to the gym and intramural courts and get those athletic minded people to take notice of USF football.

Yo Pimp,
Call Tanya West. She's his assistant. If you talk to her about it, she can schedule you in. I'm sure he never got calls from student organizations to make appearences.

Ricky did't you show us the same article a few months ago?
-
this is from the most recent sporting news
ncaa tournament preview
"Most to prove: Bob Huggins, Cincinnati. The Bearcats have failed to reach the Sweet 16 in seven of the past eight years. Did The Ugly loss to South FLorida in the C-USA Tournament foreshadow yet another exit from the NCAAs?
good call
also later in the magazine under inside the nfl
" Newly signed LB Kendra Bell likely will wind up starting in the middle for the CHIEFS. If he is healthy, bell can cover a lot of ground and rush the passer. Signing Bell means the club has given up on Kawika Mitchell as a middle linebacker. Mitchell, a former second-round pick, never showed the instincts ot ability to shed blocks..."
hope he proves them wrong

zonald, MatRatUSF is right i would wait for xbox 360 it will be alot better but if you must have on now the ps2 is thinner so its better for travel but if you have a high defenition tv (expecially a big screen) the xbox has better graphics it high defenition capable so it will look a lot better. the controller size doesnt matter as the xbox has a small controller aswell. besides you can join other bulls and bullhaters on xbox live play anyone online.
