  1. If we're stuck playing a IAA team, I really would prefer something like FAMU. On the other hand, if their desired cut of the game is unpalatable, then I say 'take on off the shelf'...IAA is IAA no matter how good the band may be. :P

Exactly my thoughts ... FAMU, BCC, Elon ... no different.

    Go BULLS !!!

I think there is something to be said for the experience of the given game.  I am not saying we are doing tea time or anything like that.  There is something to be said about having a good time with the visiting team -vs- the UCF parking lot experiences of last year.  The caliber of the visiting team does come into character, playing a Florida I-AA team does have its perks.

  3. Guys - read it again.

I've become a Bianchi fan because of similar threads by UCF fans griping and complaining that he was a Gator lover.

The guy makes good points.  I wouldn't call out Leavitt for a little while on continuing the series - I listened to Jim's last press conference and he actually spoke up for it.  I'm not sure what more anyone wants out of him besides a John Hancock on a 100-year agreement.

Bianchi called out UCF a lot more than he did USF in that column.  Asking what to make of the defensive performance of a team with 4 former defensive coordinators is a lot more pressure than making a non-qualifier joke.

Plus - it's clear that he was being sarcastic about being the reason USF won - as he went on to point out how bad we played.

The guy writes some good stuff.  Don't be so thin-skinned.

There are better sports writers out there.  I take offense to what he says about your UCF program ! ! !

The stuff about USF is just the typical Bianchi rant - I even sent an e-mail thanking him. Other Orlando area Bulls fan sent e-mails to Bianchi with a different slant.  It seems to me reading the Sunday paper that the slantinel slams UCF as much as USF.  I know he digs the e-mails from everyone.  Bianchi even slams other sentinel staff.   Hopefully he will take a job with the Gainesville paper someday.

  4. This goes out to everyone I met at the TD Waterhouse today and everyone we did not get a chance to meet.  Thank You Bulls for coming to Orlando, the green and gold showed up, represented and hopefully your drive home was safe and issue free.

It is not an easy thing to be a BULL in Orlando, today though hopefully put some things in perspective for the Orlando folks... Vandalism to our cars, the gestures, the smack, etc.... what is your point? We support USF - we are not your problem.

Thanks go out to Greg Auman at the St. Pete Times,  he called myself and some other Bull Faithful in the Orlando Area.

Thanks go out to Mike Bianchi at the Orlando Sentinel - the more you try and ignore the USF program and try not to look at reality,  the better the USF program does.

Here is to the folks I met from Brevard and Volusia counties, we will get some watch parties going there soon.    Thanks to all for making the trip,  we hope to see more folks in 2008 for the next Orlando game.

Our tailgate will be under a tent at the TD Waterhouse Center.  According to the map I have in my possession, we will be located between Lot #3 and Lot #4 on the North Side of the facility.  It costs $5 to park there which includes a shuttle to and from the stadium.  These lots are located off of Concord St. between Parramore and Revere Avenue.  The address is 600 W. Amelia St. in Orlando (32801).

The tailgate will have a menu consisting of your favorite BBQ, beer, wine, water and soda.  The USF Cheerleaders will be stopping by to get you fired up as will President Judy Genshaft and Athletic Director Doug Woolard.  If that doesn't get you fired up, come see me!

The shuttle drop off site is a very short walk from where we are located.  It is on the south side of Lot #3 on the north side of the facility.  It will then drop you off at Church St. which is a short walk to the stadium.  The nearest entrance to the citrus bowl from the drop off site is entrance B.  The shuttle will pick you up after the game in the same location to bring you back to the TD Waterhouse Center.

My friend (a fellow Chippewa alum) with the Golden Knights Club told me the TD Waterhouse lots open at 8 a.m. and the shuttles begin operating at 10:00 a.m.

I don't know how often they run but there is approximately 12 of them running.  Seeing it is only 2 miles to the stadium it should be rather frequently.

  6. Anyone have the contact info so I can order tickets for the TD Waterhouse event?

    FLORIDA 42, UCF 0 COMMENTARY

    SILENT KNIGHTS

UCF doesn't measure up to Florida

    Mike Bianchi

    SPORTS COMMENTARY

    September 10, 2006

GAINESVILLE -- Take a good look around, UCF.

Hear that deep, deafening roar when the Florida Gators take the field.

This is what it sounds like.

See the 90,000 fans scarfing up tickets, packing into the stadium, yelling and screaming for their team, swaying and singing the school fight song.

This is what it looks like.

And notice the whoosh of the wind when Florida's electrifying freshman wideout, Percy Harvin, blows by you. And experience the sting of defeat and the emptiness in your gut when you look up at the multimillion-dollar JumboTron scoreboard and it blares out:

    Florida 42, UCF 0.

This is what it feels like, UCF.

This is what it feels like to be in the big time.

And you're definitely not there yet.

"We have to go recruit," UCF Coach George O'Leary said after his Golden Knights were destroyed by Florida on Saturday. "We've got some good players, but we need a lot more if we're going to compete at this level. It's going to take time. Have things improved at UCF? Yes. Are we at the point where Florida is? Obviously not."

The Golden Knights wanted to see how they measured up against one of the state's Big Three, and now they know. They could stand on three Tokyo phone books and still wouldn't be able to look the Gators in the eye.

There has been some silly talk over the past few months about how the state of Florida is on the verge of becoming the "Big Five," with UCF and USF ready to join the "Big Three" of Miami, Florida and Florida State as nationally elite programs. After Saturday, such talk seems about a decade premature.

"Today, Florida showed us why they are part of the Big Three," UCF receiver Mike Walker said. "This could have been our over-the-hump game and made people all over the country take notice of UCF. It just didn't happen."

You knew UCF was in trouble from the opening minutes of the game when Florida quarterback Chris Leak threw a short pass over the middle to Harvin, who turned it into a 58-yard touchdown. From that point on, The Swamp seemed appropriately named because UCF seemed to be running in the muck and mire of a muddy marshland. At one point, I think I saw UCF's linebackers in the fetal position, mumbling something like, "Hey, Mommy, please don't let those mean men in the blue shirts run by us anymore."

The Gators were playing in fast forward; the Knights were playing in slow motion. Florida's receivers appeared to be riding Kawasakis; UCF's linebackers were chasing them on tricycles.

Walker just shook his head at the difference in speed.

"It was pretty crazy," he said, "just seeing how fast their big guys moved."

There has been a sense of giddiness around the UCF program ever since O'Leary took the Knights to a school-first bowl game last season, but now comes reality. UCF is still a little kid hoping to someday play big-boy football.

Here's the thing UCF fans needs to understand. There are a dozen teams out there who believe they are going to become the next big-time football program. UCF believes it. USF believes it. Fresno State and Boise State believe it. And after Saturday's near-upset of Florida State, Troy believes it, too.

The point is this: You don't become big time just by hiring George O'Leary and building a football stadium. It takes years, decades, sometimes generations to get to where Florida is.

Did you see The Swamp on Saturday night? Raucous. Roaring. Full of fans -- 90,210 of them. Well, here's the thing, UCF. Before Florida was any good, before the Gators were winning national titles and Southeastern Conference championships, their fans still packed their stadium; their boosters still filled their coffers.

Keith Tribble, UCF's new athletic director, worked at UF in the 1980s when the Gators became big time.

"Florida's is the blueprint we want to follow," Tribble said. "When the Gators made their move in the '80s, people rallied around the program by filling the stadium and providing financial support. We will get to that point, but it's going to take time."

Take a good look around, UCF.

You've come a long way, baby.

You've got a bazillion more miles to go.

Mike Bianchi can be reached at mbianchi@orlandosentinel.com.

  8. A 21-20 squeaker over a lesser foe still beats a 42-0 beatdown by another in-state team.

Hopefully, they'll just sleep it off.

I don't think this will slow them down.  The Central Florida Future has this on its front page... "The golden ticket To 500 UCF football fans, a visit to 'The Swamp' is a golden opportunity to witness one sweet victory"....  Go over to http://www.centralfloridafuture.com/  , tomorrow's headline won't be about their loss, it will be how we almost got beat by FIU, nevermind the short memory of UCF almost getting beaten by FAU.... their focus will be on USF.  Trust me, the UCF folks and Bianchi at the Sentinel and everyone else will be focused on us and not their loss.

We are the distraction to the situation, they are even hungier now.

    5. UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

    ORLANDO, FL

    Founded: 1963

    Enrollment: 37,568

    Out-of-State Tuition: $16,491

    Web Site: ucf.edu

The NORML chapter at UCF is arguably the largest and best-funded student drug-policy organization in the country. Last year the group was voted best organization on campus by the student body, won best float in the UCF homecoming parade and raised enough money to send 20 students cross-country to attend the 2006 NORML conference in San Francisco. A few veteran NORML activists are currently in the process of forming an SSDP chapter as well, which will focus on changing punitive campus drug policies.

    9. FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY

    TALLAHASSEE, FL

    Founded: 1851

    Enrollment: 30,206

    Out-of-State Tuition: $16,340

    Web Site: fsu.edu

FSU has a long-standing NORML chapter and a new SSDP chapter. Last semester these organizations joined forces to run a successful SAFER initiative, in which 60 percent of the student body called on the administration to treat marijuana-possession offenses on campus the same as underage drinking. FSU NORML has also been actively involved in lobbying the Florida state legislature to pass industrial-hemp legislation.

  10. Would it be all those wonderful coeds?

Would it be forging my iron bladder with $4 pitchers at the Copper Top pub?

Would it be the $2.08 for Chicken Chow Mein at the Shanghai Express on Fowler?

Would it be all the money I spent back in the day for Punch Amps and Speakers at the Sound Advice on Fowler?

Would it be all the wild parties at the apartments on 50th Street?

Would it be scrouging for box tops to get that free Gumby's Pizza?

Would it be killing all the roaches in the Village on campus, the scene looked like something out of Aliens.

Would it be living in Beta for one year?

Would it be all that Chili Frito Corn Chip surprise and Steaks cooked on Sheep Dung brickets from the meal plan?

All of these and. . .

    Football, yes.

    Athletic Training Center, yes.

    Bulls Club, yes.

  11. Is it ok to have a USF logo in your Engagement Photos?

Is it ok to have your wedding on the same day as the Syracuse game?

Is it ok to sponsor an ATC football locker in his and her name? Knowing that once you are married, you will probably sponsor another one with the new Mr. and Mrs. name?

Is it ok to have a coaches signed football, new logo helmet signed by Andre, a retro logo helmet, a original 1997 pennant and two other ones in your work office?

Is it ok to have bought my best man a game worn jersey as a wedding gift?

Is it ok to have bought myself a game worn jersey as a wedding gift?

Is it ok to have Bull license tags on all three cars?

Is it ok to have a the first football game program signed by CJL and LRS HOF 95?

Is it ok to give time to both Bulls Club and the Alumni Association?

Is it ok to do all these things and live in Orlando???

    Damm straight it is!
