  1. smazza is right on about the situation. Seth needs to win an NIT or NCAA tourny game before I can call him a good coach. Seth always won some big games such as Memphis, Pitt, Providence, Texas, and Cal. He just could not win under pressure. Also, I am tired of hearing the low budget excuse. Jim Leavitt pretty much put that excuse to rest by winning football games with a low budget when we first started the football program. As a matter of fact, I believe the success of the football team put more pressure on Coach Seth at USF because he could no longer use that low budget excuse. When Leavitt wins while working out of the trailors, you can bet that the USF basketball program should have been able to win games. I think the sad thing about it was that Seth was so close to taking USF to the next step in 2000 and 2001. When you have **** Vitale saying that USF should be in the BIG DANCE in 2001. Also, I remember some preseason magazine predicting USF to make the Sweet 16. The point is that Seth did not live up to expectations which is why alot of us believe he was not a good coach. Seth recruited well, but he just did not have the good X's and O's that USF needed.

  2. I am sorry if I have ripped Seth since he has left USF. I just get a feeling that so-called USF fans are not behind Coach McCullum right now. I get the feeling that some of you would rather have Seth here at USF then Coach McCullum. I wish Seth well, but I still would love to see USF beat a program coached by Seth by at least 20 points for his comments that he made while he left. I have always said that I will not be impressed with Seth until he wins an NIT or NCAA game in his coaching career. Seth is a coach that will win around 18 games and have his program on the bubble each season. When push comes to shove, Seth will just blow it because he just cant coach that good. I tried to believe in Coach Seth for 7 years, but I realised that he is just too stubborn to be a good coach. He kept playing that gimmick offense such as the 1-3-1 while other teams were adjusting to our style of play. It was not surprising that we would lose down the stretch each season even with our good teams at USF. Seth had a recruiting class ranked 25th in the nation at USF when he recruited Waldon. Seth also had the 38th ranked recruiting class in the nation when he got Kelvin Brown. Recruiting is one of Seth's strong assets, but coaching X's and O's ruins him as a coach. If Coach Seth does not do anything with his high ranked recruiting class then recruits will stop coming just like what happened at USF under Seth. Sure, Seth can blame USF for his failure right now, but I can tell you that he will be exposed pretty soon at VA Tech in the ACC. Hopefully, Seth can buy him another few years at Miami, so that he can maybe through USF a bone.

  3. Good for Seth. It should help his chances at getting that Miami job. I personally would love to have Seth coaching at Miami because it would be good for the state of Florida. Also, maybe Seth will schedule Miami against USF if he was the coach at Miami. Here is hoping that Seth will get that Miami job. Sure would be nice to have Miami on the schedule.

  4. Sheriff,

Seth needs to win one post season game to sell me again that he is a good coach. Seth knows hoops, but I have yet to see him coach good games when it  mattered the most.  You witnessed it live in person when you traveled to watch USF get smoked by a very bad USM team a few years. The bottom line is that Seth put together a team that should have made the BIG DANCE in 2001. A 6-0 start in 2001 looked very promising, but then USF loses to an overrated UF team. USF goes on the road and gets bullied by a Syracuse team then the rest is history. There were so many big games that USF choked in 2001. The Charlotte game on ESPN hurt real bad. How can a team with Altron, BB Waldon, Reggie Kohn, Will McDonald, Greg Brittain, Kelvin Brown, Brian Swift, Terrance Leather, Gerrick Morris, Mike Bernard, etc not win a post season game?? We should have made the NCAA's with better coaching IMO. That was the make or break year for Seth and USF. You know it. It had great moments such as GreenbergOpolis. It had real low moments such as Kelvin Brown leaving the team. A trip to the BIG DANCE would have done wonders. I can guarantee you that we would be in better shape now if we did make the dance that year.  You complained about getting an NIT banner while I was happy to at least get that because I knew the program was going down hill from there. I dont hate Seth because he actually helped USF by leaving on his own. I can gaurantee you that USF would be even worse if Seth would have stayed. Seth did USF a big favor.

  5. smazza is right on. I would have been very surprised if the BIG EAST lost BCS status. I really dont think the BCS would be able to stay alive if they kick out a conference. Who would they replace the BIG EAST with?? No way does that Mountain West conference get in over the BIG EAST. It is just a East Coach bias that helps the BIG EAST. I am not complaining about it at all. I depend on smazza to give me updates on the west coast. I mean, does anyone really give the PAC 10 enough props?? The PAC 10 is basically ignored at times because the entire East Coast is hitting the sack.

  6. Blacksburg VA is just not big enought for Seth. It is a terrible location for Seth. I hope Seth gets the Miami job because he would enjoy that area alot better IMO. Seth is more of a city guy that is not afraid to talk to the media. Good luck Seth. I hope you get that Miami job because I really thought you should have been selected over Perry Clark in the first place. Both USF and yourself would have been better off in the long run.

  7. I have to say that the BIG EAST fans rock. USF never got any warm welcomes from C-USA when we joined for football. All USF got from them was jealous comments from ECU, USM, and Memphis. It is so nice to get these welcome comments from our new conference brothers. It is so easier to pull for the BIG EAST now instead of C-USA. It was hard to root for C-USA in because they had this bad attitude about us. I just know they are bitter because they did not get included in the BCS years ago, so they are taking it out on USF because we did not pay the so called dues. Anyway, good luck to WVU and the New BIG EAST.

  8. The new BIG EAST will be tough top to bottom. There wont be any teams that will be a pushover. Rutgers is getting better, so you cant assume a victory over the Scarlet Knights. UCONN is doing real well now. I think they are only going to get better. UL is going to get better too. Cincy wont be easy if their new coach from Ohio St makes that defense tough. Syracuse has some talent at RB. WVU and Pitt are the top teams in that league right now. USF will only get better with our good coaching staff.  The future of the new BIG EAST looks very tough. Any team can easily finish in last place if they are not careful.
