  1. Interesting comment by CJL:

When asked about money games, he said that we have never scheduled money games, rather just to get exposure.  Then he went on to say that the Auburn game was going to be the last game without a home and home.  Are we going to drop the Gators or was it just an oversight?

Also Finebaum, was asking CJL that if its harder to schedule teams now that we are not the punching bags that we used to be to the Alabamas, Arkansas, etc.  wtf?

  2. Maybe they will do what N. Texas did, they can get a very successful state HS coach  8-)

Alabama is going to hire Nick Saban at the end of the NFL season.  Otherwise they wouldn't be waiting around just to take a chance.  He must have told them he would take the job once he was done with the regular season. It makes too much sense, why risk losing even more recruits and even more national ridicule?

  3. Welcome to the board Paul Wall. ha.  Yeah, it was posted before, but with so many topics started each day is hard to know it if you don't spend hours here. As for the ranking it will be tough because some voters may vote FSU and UM back in, plus Rutgers if they win their bowl game big.

  4. Actually, yes. It is very hard to do.  The price to charter a plane four months from now -- when you can't actually book the trip -- will change substantially (heck, fuel costs alone can fluctuate by 10-15%).  They also can not tell you how much the hotel will be, since some bowls may not even have assigned team hotels at the start of the semester.

Again, I do not think is that hard to get an estimate on how much things will cost.  You can give an approx. for each scenario and take one deposit.  You don't need to stay at the team hotel, you can book at a cheaper place and prepare for a rate increase.  We already have 3 bowls within driving distance so again, you can estimate how much it will be to charter a bus. We are only talking about a 4 month difference, the only unknown would be gas price and you can price the package at the worst case scenario.  As for the other two bowls, well, will just not offer the package in advance.

  5.  Sending postage to all graduating students letting them know about season tickets would be a waste of money.  What person doesn't know that they can buy season tickets to the USF events?

There is a lot of things that we know but yet we do not think about them.  People know that we play at RayJ but they don't think about it when they drive through Dale Mabry because there is nothing there to associate the stadium with us. People know they can buy season tickets but a nice letter can be that reminder. My sister just donated some $$$ to WUSF just because she got a letter, she has known for a while that she can donate to WUSF but the letter gave her the extra push. We need to stop waiting for that fan base to magically grow. We need to be more proactive.

  6. I'm all for better marketing with one caveat -- are we trying to get blood from stone here?

pre-sales wojuld most likely benefit those most likely going already in the first place. I guess a handful more might be able to swing it from a cost basis. But you are asking quite a lot from the semi-weak fan base we have to expect that to be the magical move that changes things.

Mike I think it can work because it will be a lot easier for somebody to convince some friends to go to the game when they have a few months to plan it.  I could have fielded a few calls to some of my fraternity bros to purchase and donate travel packages to the undergrads.  I'm not talking about a simplre pre-sale but a real effort to get the students moving.  Is not going to magically change things, but even if we get a few hundred people more to the game it will still be worth it.

  7.    I'm frustrated with everyone in charge of promoting/selling tickets at USF. Given our unique situation we need a more creative marketing department.  And don't talk to me about budget 'cause you can market to students for almost nothing.  Promoting travel packages during student meetings is free, and you don't even have to wait for the day of the invite for this.

You can start talking about possible bowl plans during the start of the semester:

"If we make the Bham bowl this would be the cost of the package $", or "If we make the Gator bowl this would be the approx cost of the package: $ That price will go up the day the bid is announced though. So get your package early, you will get a refund for the difference."  Is that so hard to do? I think we are starting to see a trend with bowl bound teams: pre-sales.  If by the end of the season we have sold a good amount of tickets then we won't be turned down by the bigger bowls.
