  1. The "Hit Show" was a valiant try that went horribly awry. Needed something to juice up the market and it failed miserably ..... Couldn't agree more about Cashsteala. Everytime I see something about him my blood boils.  >:(

Cashsteala...I havent heard that in a while.  The Hit Show was a good idea.  We brought in two serious bats in Vaughn and Castilla and the addition of Canseco (well past his prime) and McGriff (past his prime as well) should have added to the run total.  Except, all we had were plenty of strikeouts and a serious flirtation with the Mendosa Line by most of them.

  2. TripleB,

I agree with you except for the Lamar comments.  The Hit Show still gives me nightmares.  Vinny Castilla is the scum of the Earth (guy only plays well the final year of a contract - like Juan Gone -  or when he plays in Colorado).  Plus, its hard to miss the young talents when your draft position is strong each and every year.

  3. Although the Black Sox have a solid rotation, they have certainly not been as dominant as in the first half of the season.  Although the Cards have struggled as of late, you cant beat a staff lead by CY Young front runner Carpenter and followed by Mulder and Suppan.  Also, you are hard pressed to beat their bullpen lead by Isringhausen (sp?).

  4. Mince,

If the Black Sox win it all this year, I will take you dinner anyplace you want in Tampa.  But, you have to provide me something in return if they dont.

PS - I grew up on WGN being a local kid from Tampa.  So, yes, I am a Cubs fan but I am converted to the Rays...like I hope the rest of this area will do, too.  I like both teams but when they played each other (yes, I was there when the Rays played at Wrigley back in 2003, I will pull for the Rays).  By the way, that was when we found Sammy's little bat secret...

  5. I would agree.  You cant keep up the "but they are in the Pac10" excuse.  They dominate great teams and they destroy good teams.  Going into last Saturday's game, USC punted the ball only TWICE and both those punts were in the 4th Quarter with the water girls playing and the game was well out of hand.

  6. Nice to see the former USF Student Body VP kicking it around on the board.  Didnt I see you storm the field vs. U of L?  Must be nice to still get those perks...

Congrats on your Black Sox not totally choking at the end.  I mean, you do play in the weakest division next to the NL West.  However, your failing in the post season is a foregone conclusion.  Your pitching isnt the same as the first half of the season and your hitting, well, isnt getting it done.  I have no horses in the race but thanks to the Devil Rays, you will face a shaken Indian, Yankee, or BoSox ball club.

I suggest you go watch Field of Dreams because that is still the best Black Sox play you can see nowadays.

  7. UF drives to FSU and vice versa.  Similar to why USF made the decision to drive.  It takes less time to drive than fly.  Its nice to see they are flying back but driving there is fine.  BM's story in yesterday Trib alluded to the fact that the players did not want this but he could not (or did not) produce a quote.  Poor journalism at it's best yet again.

  8. Another season comes to a close.  Another season of seeing guys play their guts out (minus guys named Vinny and a couple of guys named Jose).  Although I am once again thrilled with their 2nd half play, we find ourselves similar to last year which equals to another year wasted and another year being stagnant.

Will new mgt. bring us more wins?  I dont know.  I wish that Sweet Lou had been provided the type of payroll to compete.  To go out and find a pitcher or two would have been nice.  But, that did not happen and the Rays reaped the benefits of revenue sharing via TV deals.

I attend a few dozen games a year.  I am going to be a season ticket holder starting next season with or without Vince at the helm.  My personal boycott will be over.  I guess I may be crazy for doing this but you cant help but get behind these guys who are barely old enough to drink.  I guess their guts have finally overcome by displeasure for the worst front office in professional sports.
