  1. I guess CFN thinks that there will be at least 4 other Big East teams that are bowl eligible.

Remember, Notre Dame can take the Gator Bowl slot in place of a Big East team. Which will happen, unless they get into a BCS bowl or fail to qualify at all.

That leaves only three bowl openings for Big East teams: The BCS bid, Charlotte, and Phoenix.

  2. So any way, these four bus loads of UL students, a priest, a rabbi and a blind dog pull into Raymond James Stadium and see trash strewn all over the lots....

...and the priest says to the rabbi, "what are you doing here?" And the rabbi says, "I was told that a lot of my people were in South Florida." And the priest says, "no you're thinking of 'south' Florida. We'll see you at the Miami game next week." The rabbi leaves.

Then the priest turns to the Louisville fans and says "did you make this mess?" And the blind dog says, "it wasn't them, Father." And the priest says, "how do you know?" And the blind dog says, "I don't smell any Geritol."

Football: Three Teams Added to Future Grid Slate

    By Shelly Poe for MSNsportsNET.com

    September 15, 2005

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University has added Auburn, Florida State and Michigan State to its future football schedules, athletic director Ed Pastilong announced today.

West Virginia will travel to Auburn for a game at the SEC school on September 6, 2008. The Tigers will visit Morgantown on September 5, 2009.

In 2012-13, the Mountaineers will play home-and-home with Florida State of the ACC. The first game is scheduled for September 8, 2012, in Morgantown, with a return game on September 14, 2013, in Tallahassee.

West Virginia also has a letter of intent to play Michigan State out of the Big Ten, with a game in Morgantown in 2010 and a game in East Lansing for 2011.

"I think our fans will enjoy these three major college football programs from BCS conferences on our future schedules," says Pastilong. "We look forward to hosting them in Morgantown."

A two-game series with Mississippi State was previously announced. The Mountaineers will play in Starkville on October 7, 2006, and the Bulldogs will return the trip to West Virginia on October 20, 2007.

  4. I guess I'm curious if it is just message-board types declaring "we're too good for this to be a rivalry" or do all students and folks associated with the game feel the same way and never want to see it played again.

Frankly, I think it's more message-board types saying "we're too good for this to be a rivalry." As was noted earlier in the thread, a LOT of current students cared enough to go to the game. They're the ones whose desires ought to carry the most weight.

Besides, status can change, and it can change quickly. It's not so long ago that UCF was having good I-A success and we were losing to the likes of Elon and Western Kentucky. A long term series, if played, will likely be more even than it looks at the moment.
