  1. We'll have to see how the conversations with the networks are going. FOX wants FSU, which is why I think they will be able to receive an invite without AAU status. There's no question they'd rather be in the SEC. The SEC doesn't "need" FSU, but I do think it will be better long term for both parties. The ACC still doesn't see WVU as a peer due to their academics, but if ESPN wills it then I think they will get the invite. There are rumors right now the football schools (FSU/Clemson + others) are pushing for football additions, Utah being the primary candidate right now because they are not bound to the B12 as heavily as the others. WVU, and other B12 properties, are probably not moving until the end of the current TV contract closer to 2030.

Never knew so many ppl were so passionate over College Baseball.

I think college baseball is highly underrated and Omaha shows it - it's an electric time and the NCAAB postseason is all-around awesome. Unfortunately college baseball is weak in the largest conference in America (B1G) as they have their rustbelt MLB teams to watch, so there is much less demand for college baseball. Every conference game for AAC (and many others) are available on ESPN+, so it makes watching USF really easy too. Until (if it ever) becomes a revenue-generating sport, it will continue to play 3rd-4th fiddle in college athletics (possibly behind women's basketball too?)

  3. Someone mentioned that assistant coach at UF and his resume looks great. I know Urso is a proven winner, but he might cost more than we would like to pay for the position all things considered. I'd like to continue the theme of finding (or trying to) young, hungry, hard working assistant or successful new head coaches. CJS obviously didn't work out but he was more entitled than hungry, at least when compared to CAAR and CAG. It's easy to say "just find a CAAR/CAG of baseball", but much harder to execute.

Hope we can find/announce one soon and get the ball rolling with recruiting.

  4. Tech is very similar to USF - far more focus on the academics. I think with a push for athletics, they can easily compete in sports across the board on a national level. The quality of football recruits coming out of Georgia is on Florida/California level, there is just fewer of them. If they can recruit them? Watch out.

Also, high school football coaches in Georgia make like $125k/year and do not have to teach, which is crazy to think about. They're practically low-a from a baseball perspective with regards to how professional they take it. Growing up in Florida, our football coaches all had to be teachers I think.

  5. It's a shame Brutcher had an "off year", think he would have been graded as our highest prospect. The pitching was awful and will take some real development before we put someone from this team into the bigs. Have faith with Boser though if he can continue to develop.

Quite frankly though, if the entire team transferred I don't think I'd lose sleep over it, that's how unremarkable our baseball program has been. Losing Cantu hurt last year, but I don't think we have any Selton Miguel's or Kasean Pryor's on our baseball team. Maybe Boser? Is there anyone on the current roster that we'd be upset transferred? Give me a full reset similar to CAAR + MBB this season.

  6. The dog days of summer will shift most posts to the Realignment Rumors thread as that will be the only thing to gossip about. That and recruiting. We are in the mix on a 4* receiver out of St. Augustine who is announcing next month, OV here on the 21st.

The USF Bulls are a top option for 2025 wide receiver Carl Jenkins Jr., who has an interesting tie to the program.

As is always the case, the question will become...do I value watching USF football to the point of paying $X? A long time ago, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, the benefit of cable TV was "hey, look at all the sports I get". Now, not so much. If you value watching [insert desired league here], you end up having to have an app, or pay to stream the delivery in addition to what you're already paying for your television delivery (21st century television, obviously) and your 'entertainment' streams. Eventually, that adds up and factors in to just how badly you want to watch [insert desired league here].

Might I interest you in a new... Venu?

Oh, I am not disagreeing with the decision.

I am really just curious if expectations are higher than should be expected given the talent pool available.

I mean, Florida is such a football state, expecting HCAG to recruit outstanding talent is a given.  I just wasn't sure about the true level of baseball talent in Florida that isn't going to the MLB draft or to the likes of Florida, Florida State, Miami, or other out of state top programs.

I will admit that I know nothing about high school baseball in general... so perhaps the collective expectations ARE realistic.

CBM I think did lose quite a few guys to the draft out of highschool. I think two years ago it was, we had a top 15-25ish recruiting class and lost something like 4 of our top recruits to the MLB draft. Now, could that be "we weren't as good as we could have been at recruiting"? Possibly. Plenty of schools retain their recruits that get selected in the MLB draft out of HS, and then again there are plenty who want to get straight to low-A.

As for recruiting in Florida, it's similar to football. If we built a wall around Tampa Bay and retained the talent in our metro? We would have top 10 classes every year. Jesuit and Sarasota are two of the top producers of MLB talent in the country.  Not to mention our exposure to the Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican communities in Central/South Florida and the Carribbean. Unfortunately, our biggest competition for baseball recruits are the same as football - UF/FSU/MIA + SEC schools. Why SEC/ACC schools are so good consistently doesn't require much explanation. But, why we have been outperformed by c over these last 10 years, like football, is unacceptable.

  9. I think there would be quicker turnover of underachievers if we had the additional budget/alumni support. I do not think VPoAMK just wants to give free passes/extra years to coaches who aren't performing. Ultimately, we are prioritizing athletics like USF has never done before - and due to restraints we have to focus where the greatest impact gets made (FB/MBB). If VPoAMK can continue to fill vacancies with low-cost high performers (Jenkins), it will be a real testament to his eye for talent.
