This dude is alright. He hates UCF too! Welcome to the pen!

For context, I'm staying with a friend while in Tampa and he goes to USF, also I've got a cousin that goes to UCF and him and the UCF fans are just insufferable.  I want Wisconsin to play UCF, just so we can destroy em in their crappy stadium that looks like it's about to fall to the ground.

    1. Tailgate scene can be whatever you make it. There are family friendly tailgates and more wild "party" tailgates. My tailgate is typically the latter. I would have your chapter President reach out to USF's Pike chapter and see if they would be interested in a joint tailgate. If not, and you're looking for a party, just find the person playing the loudest music haha. Historically, the south side of the stadium (lot 6 side) has been more family friendly while north side of the stadium (lot 4) is rowdier, since the student section is on that side.

    2. Depends on what type of nightlife you are looking for. Soho is a popular spot for college age and young professionals. Features 5 or 6 large bars all within half a mile of each other (Macdintons, Yard of Ale, Soho Saloon, Hyde Park cafe, dubliner, and world of beer are some of the more popular ones). A lot of the fraternities and sororities from USF and from UT (University of Tampa) frequent the bars there. Macdintons does happy hour (all you can drink for $10) from 6-8 and again 8-10 on Fridays. So $20 and you can get hammered for 4 hours.

Another popular spot for young professionals and college kids is downtown tampa. There is Franklin Manor, American Social, Jacksons, Gen X bar, sparkman wharf, armature works, and a couple other bars and rent-able electric scooters to get you from bar to bar. More popular with young professionals because it can get pricey at those bars.

Ybor is also a popular nightlife area, but I do not personally spend much time there and don't know too much about it. I know a lot of people active in the EDM scene hang out there.

If you are into Country bars, check out Dallas Bull. It is probably the largest bar in the area. First floor is country music and has 4 bars, pool tables, line dancing, etc. Second floor has 2 bars and plays top 40/dance. They have ladies/college night on Thursdays and all you can drink wells/beer on Saturdays for $15. Saturday is by far their busiest night.

Last place for nightlife is Downtown st. Pete. There are too many bars to mention all jammed into one block. Some of the best ones (in my opinion) are Parks and Rec, Macdintons, yard of ale, five bucks drinkery, one night stand, and 260 first. There is also a rooftop bar called the canopy.

    3. Again, depends on what type of beach you are looking for. If you are looking for touristy/family friendly, go to Clearwater beach (pier 60). If you are looking for quiet and relaxing, check out indian rocks beach, madiera beach, or reddington beach. If you are looking for a party, check out St. Pete beach (specifically Post Card Inn, known as PCI or cheek city).

    4. Gotta get yourself a pub sub from Publix haha.

    1. I reached out to USF Pike a few days ago, waiting for a reply back.  And lot 4 sounds like where I want to be, Wisconsin is having their own tailgate but it looks as though it is 65$ to RSVP, seems like it'll be older folks and alumni anyways, which isn't bad, just not what I want for tailgate as a student.

    2. Yeah, Soho sounds like what Im lookin for, thanks buddy and Ybor sounds good too, Ill have to try both.

    3. Looks like I've got 2 beaches to check out, thanks ;)

    4. Sorry, it looks like a typical hoagie sandwich?  Is it like really good?

Just went through this thread and, going back to the first page videos, it brings back memories of our visit up there. A good road trip even with the loss.

And your fans will feel right at home with the red seats.

Yeah :) I am going to go nuts in there if y'all play Build Me Up Buttercup or Jump Around, or both

I would encourage you to look into the Brew Bus if you are in to breweries. It is cheap and will get you around safely to various bars and breweries. There are different tours/routes on Saturday and Sunday. Because the game is Friday night, that won't be an option. Here is a link: https://brewbususa.com/public-bus-tours/#specialty-tours

This is perfect, thank you so much.  This is exactly what I wanted :)

@Ryan if you want craft beers... http://thebrewerybay.com/

    And then there's this... https://www.uber.com/global/en/cities/tampa/

Uber into the game is easy. After the game will take at least an hour.

The brewery sounds great.  As for uber, sorry I'll have a car down here and plan on having a big tailgate, once I know where I'll be parking I'll post in here in case any of youse good folks wanna come over for a quick one real quick once, eh

West Tampa Sandwich shop had the best Cubans in Tampa.  Good enough for Obama to stop by for lunch while he was president and visiting Tampa.  I've eaten at all 5 of the top contenders and WTSS is the clear winner.  Columbia in ybor is a good option too, mainly for the atmosphere.

Ybor, and Sparkman wharf for nightlife.  A free trolley travels between those two night spots.  10-15 min ride.

About an hour north of Clearwater is Weeki Wachee Springs.  Beautiful, Crystal clear water, very refreshing that time of year.  You can rent kayaks, paddle down river and then be driven back to your car up river.  Definitely wortwhile.

Free trolley?  Awesome, this is definitely an area I'll check out thanks for the help and Weeki Wachee springs looks awesome too, water sounds like Lake Michigan on a quick one in the Summer .... *oh ya ;)*

Oh, and Ryan, use lots of sunscreen.  I was born and raised in NY and this southern sun loves Yankee skin.  SPF 10,000 should do it.  Nothing like getting wasted on the beach and falling asleep in the sun for about two hours...🥵

Will do, I use high SPF all the time if Im out in the sun, I'm surprisingly tan for being from Wisconsin, but IDK how tan I am compared to Floridians

Haha! Get ready to drink a lot of beer. There is no such thing as cool and September in Florida. Being a New Englander I am very aware of your college hockey program. I teach at the University of New Hampshire...we used to be relevant in hockey but it has been six or seven years since those days. Saw you guys play many years ago in the tournament in Massachusetts. Haven’t seen your men’s team advance in a while.

My liver is fully ready, I'm a born and raised Sconnie and + or -5 pts for being in a frat lol.  Yeah sad to hear that Manchester just lost their ECHL team ;(  Hopefully they get a FHL team.  And yeah, our mens team has been consistently exceptionally wonderfully average

I think we would be happy with that. The spread is now Wisky -12. Our best hope is to emphasize our speed on offense (we have a new OC who averaged 50+ points a game last year winning the D2 championship) and “Hope” you guys get gassed with the FL humidity. I am not buying the second point too much as you guys have depth in the trenches.

For my sake, I'm really hoping it ends up being a rarely cool August day for Florida, otherwise I'll be drinking extra beer Friday.  The 1st quarter is going to be a really big teller for me as to how this goes, I feel dumb typing that. ;)  PS, while I'm here I'll be in Orlando for a night(staying with a friend near UCF), I'll show em a real national champions college(2019 Womens Ice Hockey)  :P

You guys should just hand off the ball to your stud RB...QB needs to just be serviceable. You guys are “offensive line university.”

Yeah, honestly I've been a student at Wisconsin for 2 years now, I've gone to every home game in the SS and done 1 away game and I think people are under rating y'all on our side.  I think it's gonna be closer than people think.  I say it ends 35-31 Wisconsin

Is it still snowing in Wisconsin? Seriously, welcome to the board. Your thoughts on your team and this game?

We did get snow all the way into April this year.  I miss Hornibrook ngl, but the team looks good this year and the analysts predict we have a decent season, it helps having Michigan game at home.  Also, rn we're havin a battle for the QB position so that's always good I guess, eh

It wouldn’t hurt to tip as well, not sure why Wisconsinites are so cheap but bring your wallet just keep it in your front pocket in Ybor. Good luck bro just not in the first game.

Sorry to hear about that.  I don't mean to toot my horn, but I will tell you right now I work a job as a server so I know how tips work and I always tip between 15 and 35%.

I hate when people don't tip too, pisses me right off

    1. How is the tailgate scene at USF? (Just asking, cause us Sconnies are heavy drinkers, unless its budweiser --- EW.)  I think the lots are only open for 5 hours before the game, so take that for what it's worth

    2. Wheres the best place to go for nightlife? Ybor or tampa? (if it helps, I'm in ΠΚΑ at Sconnie.)  Ybor or Sparkman Wharf in downtown Tampa

    3. What's the best beach?  Clearwater sounds like what you would like.

    4. Best place to get a cuban sandwich and any florida specific cuisine I should try while I'm here? La Teresita has really good Cuban food and is near the stadium.

Thanks for the help this is definitely what I needed.  Good luck and see you in a month

If you like drinking then the Tampa area is a good place to be. A ton of craft breweries. Plus the Yuengling factory is in Tampa right next to Busch Gardens. Downtown St. Petersburg has a high concentration of really good breweries and museums. Plus it's closer to the beaches.

Fort Desoto, Bean Point on Anna Maria Island, and Clearwater Beach are the top beaches. John's Pass is a but touristy but there are a lot of shops, good restaurants, a brewery, and great views.

You can find good Cuban sandwiches all over. Seafood is something you gotta eat while you're down here too.

The tailgate atmosphere should be good vs you guys. Our fanbase is pretty laid back and welcoming. Lots 3 & 4 are where the students generally are and the more party-like atmosphere.

Hope some of this info helps!

Thanks for the help, I love craft breweries and everything you said sounds good, thanks and good luck this season

BTW, I love that "Jump Around" thing that the Student Section does once a game - I think after the 1st or 3rd quarter break?

Anyway, seen it on YouTube a few times and looks like a lot of fun.  One of the cooler traditions in college football....Also heard Madison is a really cool fun town.  Hopefully will be able to make the trip in the return game up there (I'm assuming there is one).

Yeah, it's after the 3rd quarter.  We've got 3 big traditions I'll show you videos

    1. Jump around which is self explanatory

    2. Rivalry Student section chant(Divides the student section in half)*This one is very vulgar btw*

    3. The student section singing Build me up Buttercup

  15. Dear bullspen,

I'm a student at Wisconsin in my second year and I'm coming down for the game and first of all, good luck to your team in the game and the season.  I'll be here from August 27-31, what are the best things I should see? (I love rollercoasters, kayaking, hockey, nature trails, new food places, and art/history museums, and getting drunk and having a good time is a plus.)

    1. How is the tailgate scene at USF? (Just asking, cause us Sconnies are heavy drinkers, unless its budweiser --- EW.)

    2. Wheres the best place to go for nightlife? Ybor or tampa? (if it helps, I'm in ΠΚΑ at Sconnie.)

    3. What's the best beach?

    4. Best place to get a cuban sandwich and any florida specific cuisine I should try while I'm here?

Good luck to you and your team and I'll see y'all in a month PS: feel free to stop by where I'm tailgating, gonna have all Wisconsin food and good Miller beer.

PS, thanks for any help oh and to cap this topic off so y'all don't hate me for coming here .... **** UCF
