The  convicted violent felon, who was out on bail for sex crimes against a minor under 12 from a few a  months , was carrying a gun illegally, and murdered someone.  I would assume being out at hookah bar that probaly serves alcohol was a violation of his bail and parole. People are dead and hurt because the guy keeps getting out of jail and committing violent crimes.

This is the biggest issue but there is little appetite for holding people accountable nowadays.

where was it alleged that they were open carrying? Concealed carry is legal. If the gun was concealed and they pulled out out in self defense that is legal.

I guess we will never know one way or the other, the point that I am trying to make is if you are holding (concealed or open) and approach a thug late night, bad things can happen.  It is a tragedy regardless when some don’t value life and will kill people with little to no regard.   Last thought on this, not easy to conceal completely in mid May in South Florida without some people noticing and could have contributed to the shooting.  Either way all the talk in the world isn’t going to change this serious of sad events.

In Florida are you able to carry as long as you are not a felon. Are you indicating that the Batties were convicted felons?

Nope, the other guy was, here is the explanation I read, Florida is not an open carry like Texas. Either way you go out packing and confront a thug late night, stuff can happen.

Florida is an permitless carry state now. So there will be many more gun carrying people having disagreements amongst themselves. I think Desantis is working on a bill to permit open carry.

Were the Batties on their way to hunt or target practice? No, so they were carrying illegally.  A law is not going to change any of this,  the felon should not have been carrying or even out on bond. It is a tragedy however very avoidable had they not made some very questionable decisions, you can place responsibility anywhere you want but you must assign some to the brothers in this case.

Even though they had a right to defend themselves, I wish they would have just avoided the situation altogether.  The dude was a bum. I have to assume they all knew each other. Sarasota seems like one of those places where everybody knows each other.

They appeared to have confronted him while they were both carrying, definitely could have been avoided.

Wasn’t doing that at all - was responding to a question about “What sort of city is Sarasota.”

Sports and politics don’t mix, we are overrun with people here, unfortunately that is from having an open border and a strong economy.  I guess we can pick what poison we want because both sides are taking us over the cliff.  Sarasota was too nice of a town to keep to yourself, however the infrastructure needs to keep up with the growth, Texas has figured it out, hopefully Florida will as well.

Yes him being out late is beside the point. Who of us hasn't been out past midnight?

Feel horrible for him, his brother, and his family.

i hope he makes a full recovery.

Ironically i was out past midnight the past 3 nights in a row, in Chicago with old friends.  I agree with Gator on this one, at that age staying out that late was a normal occurrence, no need for any public service announcements about the risk of doing this.  I am sad to hear this, even though he bailed I liked this kid as a player and seemed like a good kid,  I hate seeing this, but am kinda numb to this nowadays, sending good thoughts his way!

Exactly! I liked Fred. He was very friendly and would always say hi to me and say a few words when we saw each other. One of the nicest Bulls I ever met.

I feel the same, I still remember the day of the selection show in 92 some teammates were hanging out drinking on the causeway beach as was I and some of my friends.  I talked to Fred for a while and he was dejected with their first round loss in the Metro conference tourney and we both felt like it was a long shot to get an at large, glad we were wrong.  Either way he always had a very friendly disposition and seems like a generally good dude, hope the apple does not fall far from the tree.

No coach is leaving a real coaching gig for minor league football, which has always been a notch below hs in the United States. Non nfl pro football is where careers go to die, they aren’t a pinnacle to anyone, were the games even televised? The signing bonus a $50 golden coral gift card?

Not sure why the need to trash Skippy, we realize he was for the most part a bum but to Outlaws point, CJS is the most recent and the biggest bust in not only our history but in CFB history.  Skip is Lombardi compared to Howdy Doody.  If we are feel the need to trash a prior coach then our focus needs to be on him, dude was a fraud.

So it’s all the marbles or nothing?

When these cats say they love each other and have a special bond, they’re full of it?  I guess so.

Team sports aren’t about each getting their own or cashing out your teammates because you’re not one of two that have a near 50/50 chance at an NCAA championship.

Now I know you’re into instant gratification, so I get you, but I guess I expect more than that.  My problem in today’s NCAA/society.

No.  You sort of forget all their good fortune along the way, but to each his own opinion.

First of all, I absolutely hate what college sports has become with the transfer portal.  I am similar in age to you and have similar thoughts on how this is destroying the sport.  The only difference is I realize we are talking about college age kids getting 500k and expecting them to stick around for much less (if that is true) because they had a special locker room for a season. They are always going to chase the money because they are young and have never had it.  It is easy to have this high moral perspective that money is not everything, however you and I have that perspective because we have money now.  At their age I am getting paid, just accept it because you are sounding more and more like a grouchy old man yearning for those younger years, you can’t go back to what it was, that ship has sailed, accept it.

Man this seems like dejavu. I swear someone had this same response to a comment i made. One of this "huh makes sense" moments.

If I was redundant then my apologies.  That FAU team should have played in the championship game, they appeared to be the better team in the quarterfinal but pissed it away. It is so hard to duplicate a run in the tourney unless you are head and shoulders better than the competition, like UCONN. I really enjoyed our year and had we not screwed the pooch early then who knows what could have been. I can’t blame a kid for going home to play for his hometown team, or really any of them for chasing a buck or more attention,  their window is closing and they are simply taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to them.

I wonder why all the dudes from FAU team two years ago didn’t weigh all their options decided to play as a team.

Maybe it was because that team came off a final four appearance not a second round exit to VCU in the NIT. Had we made a final four or a final 16 or a final 64, things may have worked out differently.

A formidable opponent? Tell me u knew bcc even played football? If we don’t absolutely put on a clinic against them we are in big trouble…

They are trash, sarcasm 72 font was on, we will be fine as long as we don’t get Rattler's, I mean rattled.

If not for Marlon Mack running for 275 yards against WCU in '14 we would have had back to back FCS beatdowns...I'll never forget the Boos in Sec 218 over the Tunnel as CWT was coming off the field at the half down 14-9 i think it was...Hell in '17 we had Stony Brook take us unto the 4th qtr 17-17 nail biter unitl the big TD...Even in good years those small schools can bite us...In 2007, we needed 3 TDs from Mike Ford and 4 sacks from Selvie to finally put away Elon...those small schools are not automatic gimme wins. I agree, BCC should not be taken lightly.

Every point you make is spot on except BCC is absolute trash and will not be able to keep it close.  The small schools play this with the same chip as the G5 vs P5, so you take it lightly and you could pay the consequences, however we will be fine on this one.
