We go into the season withthe same DC. Untilproven otherwise, I have zero confidence that he is a high level DC.

There needs to be a huge jump on both sides of the ball for me to have any confidence in attaining a winning season. I think we have enough athletes and playmakers on offense that, hoping Bell can put together an offensive scheme , can show improvement on offense. Same leader on defense is a huge cause for concern.

Agree 100 percent.  I can't help but reflect back on the Gasparilla Bowl, when the defense literally quit in the game against Marshall.  That defeatist attitude was a reflection on the defensive coaching.  And the top two defensive coaches (Strong, BJM) are coming back.  Attitude reflects leadership

  2. I am a firm believer in the old cliche "you are only as good as your last game".  In USF's last game, they gave up almost 300 yards rushing and 5 TD's on the ground to Marshall.  Wisconsin beat another team from Florida by a score of 35-3.    Wisconsin has a much better RB than Marshall can ever dream of having.  USF has pretty much the same mediocre defensive coaching staff and pretty much the same players.  You do the math.

Charlie Strong is not going anyplace.  There is absolutely no indication nor reason for him to handcuff the offense.  The silliness expressed on this board sometimes...  guy hasn't coached a game and Strong told him he can run the offense as he see fits and people already have him handcuffed.  "If indeed this does happen".. da fug?  Sounds a lot like Taggarts 3rd season to be honest.  The one the team made it's big turn when many here wanted Taggart fired.  lol  different characters same cast...

Speculation and chatter on a message board.  What a novel concept.  And if I remember correctly, you were right there calling for Taggart's head over on the 24/7 board before the Syracuse game.  You were right there with the rest of us "silly" USF fans.

When have we not had that with USF football??? CJL always fizzled out at the end of the year. CWT has one year but we will really never know if he was a great one (from my perspective he was a much better recruiter than a coach).

It seems to be the story of USF football in its short history unfortunately.  One day a coach is going to come in here and change all that, and win division titles and conference titles and maybe even a New Years Six Bowl game.  I strongly feel (no pun intended) that Charlie Strong is not that guy.

Well it shall be a long 5-9 years for you, b/c he isn't going anywhere. I see him retiring at USF. Especially now that we have Kerwin bell aboard to fix our offensive woes. I just can't see CCS getting fired anytime soon. Unless the team has another meltdown next year, then he will be here at least another 3 years. And um.....you mad b/c he hasnt beaten UCF since he's been here? Neither has any team not named LSU either!!!! They have been undefeated the past 2 years!!!! lol we have gotten closer than the other teams in our first match up, but at this point they just simply had the better team.

If the team wins next year, and turns around the downward trajectory that started in 2017, then great, he can stay and build on that in 2020.  But if that long trip down the drain continues to transpire he will be gone in 2020, you can bank on that.  You seem to be a Strong fan, which is fine, I guess you like mediocre coaching, poor decision making, and are stuck in the past. Great, we are all entitled to our own opinions.  But that seat is warm for Mr. Strong my friend, and if you don't see that, then I don't know what to tell you.

As far as ucf goes, I was adding in the days of Charlie's coaching at Louisville.  He couldn't beat ucf then either.  It should never be accepted or justified to lose to ucf.  I don't care who last beat them, what their record is, or who their coach or who their QB is.  To rationalize losing to them is a sign of weakness that should not be accepted by the USF fan base.  But you have "Gator" in your name, so maybe you are only fifty percent a USF fan?

You think was bad, you should have seen how the whole Skippy situation went down. In all seriousness a one million dollar buyout is pretty common today...even in the AAC.

Oh trust me, I remember the Holtz New Error situation.  I guess I shouldn't pretend to know the nuts and bolts of Strong's contract and buyout, because I don't, but from what I have read and been told, Harlan and Company laid out the red carpet for this guy, based on the reputation be built while at UF and Louisville.  Fast forward a few years and he still can't beat ucf and his demeanor and body language makes it look like he doesn't even want to be here.  In my opinion, I think he sucks and is vastly overrated, and I look forward to turning the page on this chapter in USF football history.

KB would have to have a godlike performance on offense to get the HC job. There are a lot of options available with a lot less risk.

I was just speculating in my previous post you copied.  If the offense is on fire, but its the defense that is costing us games (especially the ucf game on Black Friday), then maybe Kerwin would get promoted with the hope that he could re-create at USF what he created at Valdosta State.  We just need to find someone who can 1.) win the AAC and 2.) beat ucf, and regain the upper hand from ucf, at least in football.  It shouldn't be rocket science.

If the team does suck in 2019, which I doubt it will - I think we see improvement on both sides of the ball.  How much is debatable.  But if it does fall apart, I have complete faith in Michael Kelly will make the right decisions to take us forward.  I think that hire was a home run for USF.

I agree with you about Michael Kelly.  I really like the man and his demeanor and what his vision is for USF.  Should the team go down the toilet again, I will be very anxious to see what kind of a coach Kelly would bring in given his connections.

  9. If the team sucks again in 2019 (which in my opinion could very well happen), I am willing to bet that Michael Kelly will find a way to "part ways" with Strong after the ucf game.  Perhaps if the offense is on fire all season but the defense is still dogshit,(and its the defense that prevents USF from having a winning record) Kerwin gets promoted to HC and will bring in his own guy to fix the defense. At the end of the day, Charlie Strong is NOT Michael Kelly's hire and if 2019 continues the downward trajectory of this program, then I think Michael Kelly will make a change.

In my opinion, Strong's seat is quite warm going into 2019.

It's a full blown dichotomy for me. While I fully recognize that, now, we are finally Rivals, I hate anything linking them with us .... especially something as lame as a war on a road, a road that neither is really close to.

I guess that is one way of looking at it

Jesus, you people are acting like we are playing the 85 Bears. Wisconsin is very beatable. Maybe thir RB goes off or maybe he does not but Wisconsin better be concerned with our offense too...bunch of heavy Midwest defensive linemen will be out of gas in the humidity with a KB offense.

Nah, we played the 85 Bears back in the Gasparilla Bowl, that was the 85 Bears, wasn't it?  Or was that the 99 Rams lighting up our defense?  Good thing we have new players and new minds overseeing the defense.......Oh wait.
