Yes, I do think he will be successful. It’s hard (almost impossible) to take a position on something like this given the current situation, but I think there’s a lot to look forward to.
I hate bringing up Clemson to support CJS stuff, but look at where Clemson was after losing to USF in the car care bowl. The foundation of what made them take off was good coaching and creating that family of a program, which CJS was a really important part of.
You can’t copy and paste the same story, but I think CJS has the mentality to build a foundation and is trying to get the infrastructure to support it. I think USF will be back in conference championship contention in the next 2-3 years, especially with some programs leaving to fellow G6 conference the Big 12. (Lol)
The difference in recruit quality in just one year is astounding. If we got Timmy & Jimmy under this type of team, imagine what is possible. The penalties are also less than before.
Feel free to roast me for this but this is just my perspective

Revenge will also play a role here. They have 70% of their players on the team from two years ago. Those guys remember how the USF game was the low point and then they turned it around from there.
And that was just a messy game, no way around it. They’ve obviously become significantly better since that point so there’s just many reasons to be concerned.

When I watched his presser, I felt that this game will boil down to speed vs size. But ultimately their offense will score more than just enough, the question is how well can Timmy & crew respond in a deficit.
Maybe we can go back to the CWT days and have a 65-50 shootout game lol

There have been some crafty plays through the read option and at times triple option scenarios with the QB rolling out of pocket. Too bad we drop so many passes.
I would say they need to work on what to do in blitz situations! Things kinda fall apart when edge pressure comes in.

It’s our strongest position so far this year on my opinion.
I couldn’t agree more. Imagine what could happen if we establish a pass game that defenses have to respect. Battie & company versus a 3 man front? It would be the ultimate pain for opposing teams.

Whenever I see these helmets I am painfully reminded of losing essentially every time we wear this.
also hot take but i wish they’d get rid of that green shoulder fill and pants stripe lol

I dont have any confidence that the defensive stats will improve much, but who knows. 2 or 3 conference wins would be a big deal for the program.

Last season I was very frustrated with some of CJS’ game management, namely the Temple and Memphis game. But there’s so much more to it and yes season 0 was absolutely a thing.
I cannot deny that CJS has changed the culture and honestly the team just… looks better. Better traditions (unity walk), better social media, better poise.
Thus far I give him a C+. Winning needs to happen for that to be anywhere near an A.
But if we keep running a read option up the middle on 2nd and 10 I’ll give whatever coach it is an F-

I really like the battie and mangham combination. You can’t hardly see 5’8 Battie coming at you behind the 6’3 offensive linemen until he shoots out like a cannon ball. Then Mangham is a physical and shifty back for red zone. The RB room in general is the strongest I’ve seen since the Mack days!

Go Campbell!!!
Can't cheer for Campbell because they were the game that went over the USF vs. Citadel kickoff last week and made us miss the kickoff on ESPN... I vowed to never cheer for the Camels after that

Hot take: we will see USF score on a bomb vs ND.
i'm sure CJS has something up his sleeve. The real question is, which QB throws said long ball and actually completes it?

That was ridiculous, he had so much movement prior to the snap. I remember Sean Price going up down, back and forth, then up and down etc..he was exhausted before they ever even snapped the ball. That power offense was straight trash.
and supplemented by a complete lack of defense and insanely high score lines haha... what a time

I'm excited for the team to get a chance to play a top 10 team. My expectations are very low, and all I hope for is a physical game on defense and up-tempo speed on offense.

this can't be a QB discussion without some honorable mention of Jah'Quez Evans at wildcat

I love Coach Scott's energy. Maybe someone else can also relate, but I felt really confident with him on the sideline even when some plays didn't go our way. The players buy into him and want to play with passion and energy. I love seeing CJS dance rather than seeing Charlie Strong stand with his arms crossed watching his team fall apart.

No clue how Gilbert landed this coordinating job after even a mediocre season at McNeese. He is an ineffective game manager that allows for failure by sacks/tackles for loss. 'Cuse fans are in for a horrible season, at least the USF/Texas fan base can warn them about what is coming...

Good: defense had energy and stopped the run very well, secondary showed up mostly when needed, the RB backfield is dangerous, and we have WR's that can catch the ball
Bad: McCloud's vision in the pocket when it collapses (credit due for the first TD throw)
Ugly: the kicker.
