  1. One of top football commits, Nick Roberts, is currently in a close race for the Defensive Player of The Year award in the Florida Class 7A division. Please click this link and give him a vote, you can vote as many times as you want if you refresh the page. Voting ends on Thursday, February the 2nd. Belive me, every vote counts as he is currently about 1% behind first place.

I sincerely hope that I am wrong, and if Strong pulls a miracle on recruiting day, I will be the FIRST person to eat crow.  But, come on, take off the green goggles and realize that this is a very bad class right now.  Be honest with yourself.  Now, maybe Strong can make up for it next year, but as of now, we have one giant hole in the recruiting cycle.

This class is currently a very bad class, yes, as we only have 10 commits and I would call 2 or 3 of them really good. The players I expect Strong to get to finish out this class will make it a good/average class in my mind (Donelle Thomas, Naytron Colpepper, Jabreel Stephens, Demetris Harris, Keirston Johnson) and if we can get a couple of our higher targets I would consider it a very good class (Brini, AJ Davis, Zachary Carter, Dingle, Kane Taylor, Jacquez Jones). We will have to wait for it to play out, but I would be shocked if this class ends up being bad.

I never said we needed a home run hire. Those were your words, not mine.

Your previous comment made it seem like you wanted one, even if you didn't mean it. I would love to get Anthony Grant, but I'm not opposed to keeping Bartow either.

Reading this thread saddens me to see how far some of you have lowered the bar for this program. Likable is enough? Retaining players makes you qualified? We don't need a home run hire?

I understand that the program will not be turned around overnight but we need to hire someone who can actually coach basketball, which doesn't seem to be a requirement based on this thread.

You're saying Bartow can't coach? I've definitely seen a lot of improvement in this team since Antigua left. You just seem to set the bar way too high expecting greatness. We may be setting the bar to low, but you have been setting it way too high since Antigua got here.

Just late in the day to be trying to flip 4 stars...he's going after solid recruits he know he has a good chance to get.  Next year he'll have way more time to aim higher.

I understand that but Strong is going after better recruits here at USF (Brini, Culpepper, Zachary Carter, AJ Davis, Dingle, etc...) so I don't understand why Taggart can't do the same up at a power five school. Just my 2 cents.

  6. Here's what I don't understand. Why does Taggart want these kids? He's at Oregon, he should easily be able to recruit kids of higher caliber but he is still recruiting kids that are mid 3 stars. He isn't going to win up at Oregon with this talent if I'm being honest, partly because a good chunk of them are going to transfer back to the southeast in a couple of years. I want the best for him as a coach but I don't expect him to stay there long with this talent.

I don't think it's even about winning a game with this crew.  It's about demonstrating competence.  Demonstrating a plan to build a program that will attract players.  Illustrating a vision and how to get there.  Dragging in the next million dollar baby is something this program does not need right now.

I agree with this but here is my take. If Bartow is able to keep the entire current roster we have, which is very young and seems to like him, then we should keep him unless we can get a home run hire. I'm just afraid that we will bring in a new coach that is about as good as Bartow no all of our current players will leave and we will be left in another bare cupboard situation.

I'd say a courtesy visit as he's been a long time commit for a school and has also taken on recruiting reponsility there. If we can flip him it would be great; we're going to get him on campus which is a huge first step.

Wont post the name as it is behind a pay wall.

I mean Bruce Judson was a long time commit for us and took on recruiting responsibility here and he left. To be fair it was because of the coaching change, but it can still happen.
