I am surprised on a couple of fronts. Woodie's an OK coach, but I'm surprised he's on the Arkansas radar screen. He has also been pretty loyal to Coach Taggart so I'm also surprised that he would leave right now.

I dont think he was bad at calling plays. I thought the Wisconsin game was nice. It was the inability of the players to do what he wanted them to do. Frankly it was not their gifting to be a power run game. We are not going to have mammoth O line that he wants. I think going back to a spread type offense will be just what we need. Even if he fails it gets us ready for the next coach.
Are you serious? How many times did we run the ball on 3rd and 7-10? Countless times. Drove the field against Memphis at the beginning of the game, had 3rd and 7 inside the red zone. He ran a draw. Memphis averaged 34 points per game. FGs were not going to get the job done. I can only think of a handful of plays where I said wow that was a good play call. There are way too many times I can think of where I said .
He also almost cost us the SMU game (on of the worst teams ever in the FBS) by playing Flowers at QB.

@38Godfrey ·
As we first reported days ago, former Purdue HC Danny Hope is headed to USF. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2014/12/15/7397879/danny-hope-usf-purdue-coach …
Since USF has only 1 offensive position open, and Hope will be the OL coach... it means that CWT will be his own OC
(NOTE: The CWT to be OC is not actually in the report ... but the only remaining open position is the DB coach)
That's pure speculation on your part. Don't rile up the natives with that.
Premium sites still stay strong that Kinnan will be at USF and be playcalling.
Our program is an absolute joke if we hire Kinnan.

There needs to be real improvement to justify keeping him past next year. 6 wins including some quality wins would be enough in my opinion. While we won more games this year, the teams we beat rank #118, #124, and #125 (+ 1 FCS school) in the final power rankings. We finished ranked #114. I think 10 or so FCS schools could have beaten us this year.

I'm sure these are a pipe dream. In no particular order:
Matt Lubick - Passing Game Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach - Oregon
Kendal Briles - Passing Game Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach - Baylor
Mario Cristobal - O-Line - Alabama
Calvin McGee - Co-OC/RBs - Arizona
Definitely a great list - just not sure we could get any of those guys to come here.
-
Kerwin Bell of Jacksonville U would be good. Many think he should be the UF OC one day
I've thought of Kerwin a couple of times too. Not totally convinced on how good of a job he would do. An OC at a team of our current caliber would be the logical next move for Kerwin.
-
I have been critical of many moves CWT has made. This however, is a really good hire. Our program is struggling and may not be appealing many "top tier" coaches. Getting Allen to come here is a big deal. Hopefully we will have similar success bringing in a quality OC.
-
Also, will there be people afraid to come and turn down the job as this may be CWT's last year unless he shows improvement?
I'm afraid anyone of note that has been paying the slightest bit of attention, or does any research at all on our teams the past couple years, will stay away.
IMO it was a mistake to fire the coaches we just did.
I think it was a mistake as well. Coaching turnover hurts the team. Not sure that Wulff ever really had full control of the offense. When you fire someone it only makes sense if the next hire is better. I think we will have a difficult time getting a big time OC or DC.

This is an offense that requires time and experience to be run effectively. If bench had figured it out by now he would be starting. I believe that flowers can be the guy one day but he needs to sit and learn for now. White is not a great qb but he knows the offense and let's face it, nobody has shown they can get points on the board consistently other than white. He still has a lot of potential people. Start him and worry about the qb position as white serves as the bridge to our qb of the future.
If Fowler is the QB of the future, we are in a lot of trouble and it will eventually cost CWT his job. We ran a very limited offense so that they could give him a start and it almost cost us the game against one the worst FBS program. There's a reason nobody recruited Fowler as a QB. Move him to running back.
-
If neither White or Bench have taken control of the position and once this team is eliminated from being bowl eligible, I'd like to see them go down the depth chart and give Evan Wilson a shot. He looked like the most natural QB in preseason practice and who knows maybe he has "It" when the lights come on.
There have been a lot of cases where walk ons have come out of nowhere to start. See Kerwin Bell.
I've mentioned that before as well. He seemed the most athletic of the group in the spring and seems to have a very strong arm.
-
I think he would be a better RB.
-
He has been won of the biggest positives for our team this year. Going to be a great RB.
-
CWT is doing a good job in some areas, but I don't understand what he's doing with the QB's. Are the OC and QB coach on the same page with CWT regarding Mike White?
-
There has been some improvement, but unfortunately it isn't showing up significantly in the win column yet. We are definitely struggling, but we've been in a position to win games more often this year than last year.
-
Quit wasting starts on Mike White. He has started 13 games and shown almost no improvement. We have 3 wins during that stretch - Western Carolina (FCS), Uconn and Tulsa. 1 FCS school and 2 of the worst teams in FBS this year. While I'm not a huge Bench fan, I think we would have won several more games if Bench had been given that many starts. White is the least athletic QB on the team. In fact, outside of the SMU QB, I don't think I've seen a QB with less athletic ability than White this season. Go with Bench as the starter and develop Evan Wilson.
-
Flowers should be playing running back.
-
I think this is now 11 or 12 starts for White and we've won 1 game against an FBS team during that stretch. I've mentioned this in other posts a while back - he is not the kind of QB that is going to carry/rally the team. He had 7 or 8 D1 players on his high school team and he can "manage" the offense when he has a lot of talent around him.
He definitely had a good 1st half against ECU and the rest of the offense was playing well. When we were down by 11 and had the ball at the 50 with 6 minutes or so to go in the game was a defining example of White's limitations. We need him to step up and lead in that situation and he threw his worst passes of the game in that series of plays.
-
Totally agree. It's a waste of time and it looked like he missed the reads for the very simple plays he was put in for. He's not a QB - move him to RB or somewhere else.

White definitely played better and showed more poise than in the past. The OL game him more time which was a big help. This was not a game that depended on White playing great game. This was also his first win against an FBS team.

I really hope I'm wrong on this one. We really need a win, but realistically I don't think it happens this week.
The d-line and o-line both struggled last week. After the 75 yard TD pass I think we only gained about 35 yards over the next 34 offensive plays. I also don't see the offense doing much at all by playing White again. Adding Flowers to the mix makes it worse.
-
I know he's just doing his job, but enough already.
-
Definitely some noticeable improvement in this area.
-
The next step is to beat Uconn and get to 1-0 in conference play. Wisconsin will obviously be tough, but with some gradual improvement we have a lot of teams left on the schedule that are beatable.

The results weren't there last year, but I think he'a a pretty good coach.
