Bulls Leave the Big Easy Winless, Drop Finale 6-4

After a 20-14 Saturday affair, Sunday looked a little more like college baseball.  Still, the Bulls lost, securing their spot at the bottom of the conference standings despite a challenge from the UCF Knights - a team that took two of three from the Bulls - and Wichita State.  South Florida is now 2-10 in conference play, Wichita State 3-6 and UCF 4-8.  Tulane moves to second in The American with a 7-2 record, trailing only East Carolina (8-1).

The Bulls gave up two runs in the first and ultimately six runs through the first six innings, staking a 5-0 lead after five.  The Bulls offense did its only damage in the top of the sixth when it erupted for four runs, only to give one back in the bottom half and end the scoring for the day.

The Bulls starter, senior Alec Wisely, was charged with five earned runs in four innings of work.  The loss is his fourth to go with two wins.  Noah Yager and Nelson Alvarez completed the last four innings.  Yager got touched for a run while Alvarez, struggling with control and walking the bases full, completed 2 2/3 scoreless innings.  D4JJkmsXkAAwDdQ.jpg

While only scoring in the sixth frame, the offense was able to boast on a couple of extended hitting streaks.  Alex Bello has now hit in nine straight and Chris Chatfield in seven.  Not a batter in lineup more than one hit today as the six Bulls hits were spread around.

The Bulls return to Tampa to face North Florida on Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at the USF Baseball Stadium.
