While Michigan State has a bad offense passing wise, they are pretty solid running. Our defense played much better with solid fundamentals and limited mistakes. i wish we could have gotten some of the dropped turnovers but that happens. Our defense is still very young at LB and CB so give it time. We need to develope experience and depth before they will be on par to our standards at USF.

We gave up 171 yards on the ground to a one dimensional team. I thought the defense sucked today all things considered
They had 38 rushing attempts and have a pretty good OL. Our defense played fine. Good enough to win. Like I said, we are very young at key positions and lack a lot of experience and depth on defense. It will take the entire season for them to really start clicking and improve a lot.

Outside of QB, Oline might be MSU's biggest issue.

They returned all five starters from last year and their OL is the most experienced position on offense.

    False.

LT - Redshirt Soph who should be an OG but is playing OT due to injuries and such.

    LG - RS Sr

C - RS Jr who broke his leg in the first conference game of last year. This was his 2nd game back from injury

RG - RS Sr who played LT the last two years

RT - RS Fr in his second game ever. Sometimes we replaced him with a senior JUCO transfer who had a season-ending foot injury vs. ND last year.

I have no idea where you managed to pull that tidbit of info from.

This preview shows 4 starters returning + 1 starter who is returning from injury.

    Way outdated.

FB Thomas moved to DT (long-term position) and is injured.

RT Burkland retired from football due to injury.

C Jack Allen did not play today and is also injured. He played C last year when Jackson broke his leg.

LT France was moved to RG (never played that before).

TE Lang is like 3rd string, don't think he played today.

RB Hill is like the 3rd string tailback but did a good job today.

Up here in E L it is a beautiful morning. The air smells of upset. But that could just be my allergies acting up. Walked around campus yesterday. Beautiful place. Our friend said a non conference game probably will not be a sell out but should still have over 75k. Would love to see them go home unhappy. Go Bulls.

Stadium seating is 75,005. Somebody should buy those other 4 tickets.

It's "officially" 75k but generally like 78k. I'd expect something around 72k for this game.

  4. How is the crowd in regards to vandalism to vehicles, one of our cars has USF stickers and alumni stickers on it, should we drive the car that is not marked or is it not a concern

If you're in EL it shouldn't be a problem. I've never heard of any issues people have had with vandalism at MSU. Lansing is kind of shadier so if you venture that way then obviously be somewhat careful of where you park.

Also what is the word up there for interest in this game, I was about to buy tickets on stubhub, should I do that or wait until I get there and try to scalp?

I wouldn't say it's been hyped up to crazy proportions. Last year we had some issues with somewhat empty stadiums. You could probably get away with scalping but you never know. It's a pretty early game so if we blow out WMU then people might scoop those up fast.

  5. If I only had 1 hour to take pictures of the campus, where should I make sure to hit?  Any special landmarks, etc.?

Just walk around north campus (everything north of the Red Cedar River, which runs through the middle of campus. MSU has a beautiful lush green campus, a mix of some modern buildings and some old architecture.

You'll probably want to take some pictures of Beaumont Tower and some of the older buildings around there. There's a garden just south of it as well which is nice. Unfortunately there might be a bit of construction on the roads around there.  There's nothing like a football saturday in the fall at MSU. The campus is pretty big and spread out but in an hour you can easily check out all of the north campus. Of course, don't forget to take some pictures of the Sparty statue (close to the stadium). Around there is also MSU's famed basketball arenas: the Breslin Center (current) and Jenison Fieldhouse.

  6. Michigan State QB competition could be three-way race

EAST LANSING, Mich. — The second scrimmage of Michigan State's preseason camp Saturday should determine which two quarterbacks will get the majority of the practice reps moving forward.

But what if it doesn't? Might MSU give Andrew Maxwell, Connor Cook and Tyler O'Connor chances to compete for the job on the field early in the season?

"There's always chances," MSU coach Mark Dantonio said before practice today.

Asked whether MSU coaches might have to go that route, Dantonio said: "I can't say that. I just, basically, all three of those guys are good players."

"They've all had good scrimmages at times, because we work every day live," Dantonio said. "So they've all done some good things. So we'll see how it all shakes out. But obviously, this scrimmage is a big scrimmage."

Maxwell, No. 1 on the depth chart as a fifth-year senior, is all but guaranteed to be in the mix this season. But O'Connor, the redshirt freshman, has been gaining on Cook, the third-year sophomore who replaced Maxwell and led MSU to the winning field goal drive in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.

O'Connor threw two touchdown passes to Bennie Fowler in the first scrimmage and continues to get some first-team reps. Ideally, MSU will start giving more reps to its top two soon.

And that brings the next question: Is O'Connor still No. 3 on the depth chart?

    More

I'd be surprised if Maxwell doesn't start. Cook will probably get a couple of series too.

  7. Have to do some recruiting early (always need more depth in donors) but hopefully can tip some back at the Peanut Barrel later on.  We're staying within reasonable stumbling distance.

Peanut Barrel is great. If you get the chance, try Crunchy's too. Lot of craft beers on tap and the microbrews here in Michigan are fantastic. Bell's Two Hearted Ale is a great one.

  8. Where is the "Must eat" place in EL?  Need a place for Friday night.

There's not really a ton of "must-eat" placed unfortunately. Pizza House is always a good option, otherwise some of the bar/restaurants on Grand River like the Peanut Barrell are good. Nice to sit on the patio with a few drinks and get some food. Woody's mediterranean grill is pretty good.

If you're looking for some drunk food that's a different story then. In that case I would recommend Menna's or Conrads, both serve grilled wraps bursting with whatever you want in them.
