  1. That's kinda sad with the success they've had in recent years and their opening win over Cal.

We've had a lot of problems getting people to the stadium. A lot of it has to do with Reno being a transient town and full of people who have no loyalty to the University. Part of the blame lies with the AD for not doing enough to engage the community. Part is because our stadium sucks.

I think a small but still important part is the fact that ESECPN keeps pounding the drum that its all about the big boys and no one else matters. It amazes me how many people I know parrot what they heard on ESECPN. I know that if I lived in Reno, I would be interested in seeing your team a couple of times even if USF was not playing them. I think times are such that if it is not an "event" christened by the four letter word, it must not be worth watching. I cannot stand when I am watching a game and they start talking about the top 5 or 10 teams which have nothing to do with the game we are supposed to be watching. This year, I will be turning down the sound when they do that or flipping the channel.

I echo your comments in their entirety. The Mothership seems to actively ignore 80% of the schools playing FBS football, unless they are playing one of the 20%.

  2. That idiot Logan needs a chin-check. Disgracing Nevada and it's fans like that pisses me off.

Does he post on your message board. If so, let him know your thoughts.

I don't believe so but I do not have access to the database files. If he does, I hope the ADMINS block his account.

  3. Historically, Nevada is a really a small FBS school. Despite playing football for 100+ years, we only recently exceeded 18,000 students in total enrollment. For most of our history, Nevada was a school of less than 8,000 students. Resources have always been limited. I think most fans of the program agree, Coach Ault is able to find kids overlooked by most Pac12 schools and mold them into very solid footballers. The kids you see currently on NFL rosters makes up the biggest contingent in program history.

  4. It's a former player. Don't think it means quite as much as if that came from current player. Think the Nevada folks think he's on current team.

Agreed. It's still something which caught my eye since most people think the game will be competitive for 4 quarters.

  5. just gonna throw this out there...

Even @ the pop warner level (which I coach) coaches avoid opening up the playbook against lesser opponents AND early in the season to keep it off film...

that being said, we don't need to be anything BUT conservative until next Thursday.

If we want to win at Nevada, we can't be conservative. They aren't an FCS team.

We should beat nevada going away without having to open up the playbook. We should be able to run the ball vs a mountain west team with no problem.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but Nevada at home is a tough out. The betting line (NV -1) reflects it despite USF having a talent advantage.

  6. Wasn't UT-C trying to run plays out of the pistol? I do stress trying.

There is a distinct difference between team which runs the Pistol as a package, versus what Nevada runs as it's base offense. It's like the difference between a guy who races cars on weekends and a professional race car driver.

    That why I said "trying".

I do enjoy watching Nevada play when they are on TV.

No doubt. I watched Virgina Tech run some Pistol against GTech with some success but very few teams run it as their base offense.

  7. i just love our LB core for this matchup. Lattimore and Barrington will be able to neutralize any type of QB run game they have.

The Pistol offense puts a ton of pressure on outside linebackers and d-ends. Preparing for the Nevada offense in one week is next to impossible so I would suspect Skip worked in some Nevada stuff during fall camp. But if he didn't, it could be a very challenging matchup for USF despite having a speed advantage.

USF's best defnsive players are OLB and DEs

Then that should bode well for your defense then....
