  1. Two thoughts that I found interesting:

    1) USF medical expenses were ~$1M - UCF was ~$333k.  Honestly not meant as a dig regarding past incidents just the discrepancy is huge.

    2) USF major donors have been donating to improve athletic facilities that may not be included in the donor category here.  All the new athletic improvements may not be technically recognized in this fund.  That could skew the comparison.

  2. Don't forget the growing trend to "blue-shirt" players now as well.  Likely invented at New Mexico State and being heavily used at Tennessee in this recruiting cycle (last I looked they had something like 34 commitments).  My laymen term description of a blue-shirt is a player who is verbally promised a scholarship by the coaching staff but in writing they are offered a preferred walkon role.  Shortly after they arrive on campus they get place on scholarship.  Due to the way this works they count towards the following years class not the incoming class.

The following is a link to a little blog describing the process:

"What’s the advantage for a program? Above all else, the process of assigning a blueshirt pushes a recruit’s scholarship number to the ensuing class, regardless of when he joined the program. Look at it like this: it’s like a greyshirt, but one where the recruit can actually play during his initial semester. A player is part of the 2010 recruiting cycle, for example, plays during the 2010 season yet counts towards the 2011 recruiting class. That’s a blueshirt in a nutshell."

Coaches have found ways around the rules and will continue to do so to whatever changes get pushed down.  I agree with Bullwinkle in the sense that if we need to find a slot for a stud athlete we certainly will.

  3.

He still has a contract that has to be honored, what else do you expect? If McMurphy's report is true (and we all know how that goes), then he has been demoted and forced to face the fact that he hasn't done a good enough job. And a new AD will take his place. That's the best possible outcome for USF fans.

I would presume, dangerous word, there was a buyout clause in the contract.  The best possible outcome would be to utilize that buyout, if it does exist, and not be on the hook for his outrageous salary and bonuses for the next year and a half.

Remember ontop of his salary we will now need to place the new ADs salary; essentially by keeping him on payroll we may limit the pool of candidates that we can afford.

  4. Side note that is incredibly impressive list of early enrollees from Miami Central Telly's old program.  I would have to think it speaks volumes about Telly keeping his young men on track to achieve early successes.  I may be assuming incorrectly who is the motivating factor behind their early graduations but my guess is I am not.

Cook / Yearby / Darling / Nichols / Smith are all early enrollees from Miami Central.  Not sure if there is more or not but those are the ones I have heard.  Very impressive.

  5. Walters is an under appreciated back imo. Would love to get him.

That said the difference with Trevon and other Manatee kids is that Trevon is not from here. He is from Alabama I believe and moved here something like two years ago or so. State and time frame may vary with how strong that memory is as a disclaimer.

Point being he does not to my knowledge have the usual family ties to the area that can be a help.

  6. It is mentioned elsewhere in the thread but one of the hardest parts of the recovery is trusting the knee again at full speed.  CB may have had some mental doubts on its stability and the medical staff told the coaches structurally it was ok to play.  Coaching wanted CB to push through a mental block, and CB may not have accepted that it could be just that.

I certainly do not say the above to cast CB in a bad light but rather to illustrate a potential situation that could have played out.  Regardless that is the past and for the future I hope nothing but the best for CB as I thought he had a ton of talent as well.  Also if the above was correct I would not think any less of him as many athletes struggle with that side of the injury.

  7. if anyone has Bright House they should be able to look ahead in their guide and see if BHSN even has college football in the 7pm time slot. if it as i remember it...they are probably airing a re-run of a fishing show or a high school football game from 1989
