  1.

Can he play football too? :D

If Willie was willing to give up a scollie, it could be made to work.

Outside of Kentucky, Indiana, and maybe Memphis though, can't see it happening.

I'm guessing you guys are kidding, but I recall a rule about not being able to get a schollie in a 2nd sport (non-primary).  Don't recall the details, but I think it was designed to keep teams from using schollies (track, baseball, etc.) when an athlete's main sport is full up.

I was kidding, but I'm pretty sure your correct, you can't play football or basketball if your on a scholarship for one of the non-revenue sports. That's why I said football :D

    That's correct.

You can't receive a scholarship from a non-revenue sport and then walk-on to the football or basketball team. However, you CAN play other sports if you receive a football scholarship.

Just as an example, Jameis Winston has a football scholarship and is a "walk-on" to the baseball team. Even though he is good enough to have a baseball scholarship, he can't receive money from that if he plays football.

I don't see any problem with someone receiving a football scholarship and then playing basketball. BJ Daniels did it his first season.

Not that we would ever do it if someone wasn't a legitimate two sport athlete.

  2.

I didn't see this one coming.  I thought he'd be looking at more PT this year.  Though at some point there has to be a recognition that we now have a boatload of RBs and only one gets on the field at any given time.  Really I'm surprised we've been able to sign as many RBs as we have.  There's quite the log jam.

Me either, I thought he did pretty well for his first season. Hopefully it means our stable is stocked.

He was going to be a RS Junior. It wasn't his first season.

  3. Just kind of curious...taking out the obvious UCF bias. If we could have had a coach in any of our sports with a similar tainted background as O'leary and had the results that has had (conference titles, BCS bowl game victory or NCAA tourney runs) would you be happy take a chance on a guy like that?

No way in hell. I'm usually a "win at any cost" type of guy.

I draw the line at killing players.

  4.

So it sounds like Holman and Galati are in, waiting on Dillon ... any other predictions of surprises? That list is almost completely full.

I think Ward, Jojo and Gant are the ones still hanging out there that were were pressing for.

Bill said Gant signed w/ UCF

He hasn't followed board rules yet, though.  :D

I looked and couldn't find confirmation of that anywhere.

It could have happened, but I serioulsy doubt it.

  5. I like Ward and hope he picks USF. He has a lot of work to do, but I think he can be a good player.

Having said that... those offers ARE NOT correct.

Schools can't talk about players (on the record) until they sign, so most of those offers are "self reported". Some recruiting guy asked Ward who had offered and he said that list. That doesn't mean those schools have actually offered. I would bet that most of those schools were interested at one time, but I can't imagine he would be a take for any of the schools you listed.

Recruiting sites are excellent resourches, but you need to know how to read between the lines.

  6. It really depends on what is going on behind the scenes. If there is a chance to get in the B12, you have to hire someone with B12 ties. Someone that the other ADs and Presidents know and respect.

Higgins doesn't sound like a bad choice from a "getting the job done" standpoint, but, does he have the political ties in the NCAA to help us improve our standing?

Above all, Higgins is a salesman. I have full confidence that he can win over anyone he meets. He may not have the ties right now, but I know that he can gain them.

No one would work harder than he would.

  7. We're never full when it comes to kids that can play MLB. Black is a great high school LB, and has the frame and toughness to play MLB in a year or two for us. The reason why his offer list is lacking has NOTHING to do with his play and everything to do with his grades.

Most schools don't think that he will make it in. We are one of the few (only?) (former) BCS schools recruiting him, so Coach T must thing he will have a chance of becoming eligible.

I really hope we get him because he can be a three year starter here, but I think it's going to be Marshall.

  8. Strong will be recruiting Texas, live every Texas coach has in the past. He will still come into the state (mostly Miami) to try to pull high 4 and 5 star kids, but he's not going to go after many of the 3 and low 4 star kids that we are after. He can get those kids in Texas and keep them from his in-state competition.

He might have more success with the elite recruits down here, but those kids probably weren't coming to USF anyways.

Strong to Texas is great for USF. Hopefully the Ville hires someone that isn't as focused on Florida, or better yet, isn't as good of a recruiter.

  9.

I have heard from different sources that the mascot id's have been changed to prevent further automated voting. Furthermore, all previous ip addresses that had been banned have now been permanently banned. From all accounts, it looks like having ECU force us to vote 19 million votes was the last straw with Cap one.

The problem with 19 million votes is that it is 7 standard deviations away from the mean number of votes which is almost mathmatically impossible. It looks like we all have been had and we are basically screwed. I have also heard that all other teams are voting for Texas tech and without the advantage of automated voting, we cannot win. We could click the mouse button until our fingers bleed and it just won't help.

Maybe we shouldn't have used our "IT dept" to rack up so many votes. Maybe we shouldn't have continiously bragged on a public message board about voting for other teams, or having the ability to vote 60,000 times per minute.

    Sincerely,

    Bull$hit!!

Haha guaranteed our guy finds a way

This guy with one post is totally legit.

We might as well hang up our voting caps.

    /sarcasm

  10. Never understood this.  Unless you are golden for the first or second round, why not take a year to improve and get a college degree?

Why wouldn't you go? NFL minimum salary is something like 400k. If you are condident in your abilities to play ONE season in the NFL, you could set aside 10% of your earnings and be able to return to college for your final year whenever you want. Then you can use the other 90% to invest, buy a house, or just have one of the best years of your life. If you can stay in the league longer than one year, then you are starting to set yourself up for life.

If someone offered me 400k as a junior in college, I absolutely would have dropped out of school.

Maybe you think that Lynch can earn himself a bigger contract, but I think if he goes pro this year he will probably be drafted and earn way more than the league minimum. Also, he'll be drafted as a project and will have much better coaches to get him to be a better player.

A year sitting on the bench in the NFL, getting NFL instruction, making a nice paycheck >>>> Coming back to USF, sitting in class, learning from a bottom of the barrel DL coach, and only getting 2-6 wins.

EDIT: I totally understand why a competitor would want to stay in school if he had a shot at a national championship, or even a conference championship. Lynch doesn't have that. Go make that money while you still can.

  11. I really doubt Flowers will be the answer next year but unless White improves dramatically, I think he will see plenty of time on the field.

Bench was put in to run a few plays since White has taken over. I can see Flowers put in to that roll, but I think we will see it a lot more often.

Flowers still makes a lot of mistakes, and he needs to learn how to read a defense and not throw as many interceptions. He is incredibly athletic and I think he has a LOT of potential, but he's not as polished as White was coming out of high school, and we all saw how well White played.

He'll play next year, and he will probably play pretty well. But I really doubt he will be ready to carry the full load.
