WTF? Never knew the lyrics before, other than the first two lines. Can't believe this survived a purge, and is STILL the state song

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Folks_at_Home#Lyrics

"Old Folks at Home", by Stephen Foster, 1851[4]

Way down upon de Swanee Ribber,

    Far, far away,

Dere's wha my heart is turning ebber,

Dere's wha de old folks stay.

All up and down de whole creation

    Sadly I roam,

Still longing for de old plantation,

And for de old folks at home.

    Chorus

All de world am sad and dreary,

    Eb-rywhere I roam;

Oh, darkeys, how my heart grows weary,

Far from de old folks at home!

    2nd verse

All round de little farm I wandered

    When I was young,

Den many happy days I squandered,

    Many de songs I sung.

When I was playing wid my brudder

    Happy was I;

Oh, take me to my kind old mudder!

Dere let me live and die.

    3rd Verse

One little hut among de bushes,

    One dat I love

Still sadly to my memory rushes,

    No matter where I rove.

When will I see de bees a-humming

    All round de comb?

When will I hear de banjo strumming,

Down in my good old home?

No way in hell this song gets played

We're talking about the tune, not the student section singing the song.

Plus the state has changed the lyrics, so I think there is no longer a problem at all.

"Florida and Florida State are closely matched when it comes to the state's college sports loyalties with the Gators edging the Seminoles 24/22. Miami is third at 12%, followed by Central Florida with 9%, and South Florida, Florida Atlantic, and Florida International all registering at 2%.That's a pretty big drop for USF from 2011 when we found them at 8% statewide support, while everyone else is within a couple points of where they were then."

I guess having some awful seasons really hurt us.

  4. I'm going to defend Adelson. She's really good at what she does and is well respected by her colleagues. Just because you don't like what she says doesn't mean she's a hack.

Greg has come on here and said the same thing.

Disclaimer: I do somewhat know her husband.

But you must admit she is VERY awkward when she's on TV and radio(podcast).  Sad thing about her is she doesn't have face for TV or a voice for radio...

What exactly defines a "commuter school"? I've never seen a true definition with % or real numbers.

    There is no "exact" definition.

Schools like USF (and UCF) get that tag because there are a good # of students that travel long distances and/or are in night classes. It happens in large major metro universities.

Working for a University, and looking at USF, its not unfair to call USF a commuter school as long as people recognize its nowhere near the same school it was 15 years ago.

The area surrounding campus doesn't help shore up a non-commuter image either

If there is not an "exact" definition, this means that there are plenty of "opinions" on a definition. Making it not valid. Once I see a set % of people who "commute" to a campus from 10, 15 miles will I ever respect anyone who uses that term.

It's an industry term, with different organizations each having their own definition. (I.E. US World and New, Princeton Review).

It's impossible to nail down an exact definition because a lot of schools aren't willing to cooperate with stats like that

So it's kind of a BS term?

I don't think anyone respects Andrea.... I know I don't... she's almost as bad as McMurphy was/is. That said, aside from her personal jab, the article was pretty true.

McMurphy has more talent in his pinky toe than that AA.

  8. I've never really understood us going to Vero Beach to practice. I know it is supposed to help team chemistry and bonding between players, but ever since we've gone to Vero, I've seen no improvement on the field (which is what really matters).  Also, the costs can not be worth it at all.  Use the facilities we have.

Please, next season, can we skip out on Vero Beach?
