  1. We had a very bad year last year, but let's not pretend that Leavitt ever led to us to significantly better seasons with his recruits.

I guess everybody has their own definition of "significantly better" but my thinking is that going 4-3 in conference, 9-4 overall is significantly better than going 1-6, 5-7 .... That's just me, though.

Really what I mean is that both coaches got their big out of conference win each year and then faltered in the Big East. In my book, that makes their accomplishments similar.

  2. Recruiting hasn't got better . . .

All that matters is the wins during the season, last year was a big disappointment. Need a Great Season.

    Go BULLS !!!

2009 was the best recruiting class imo, then Leavitt was gone. I think 2010 would've been even better considering the kids the staff was targeting.

2009 was easily one of our top classes... the 2013 class will have its shot...

here is a few sad faces from 2009:

Adaris Bellamy - 4 star... never step foot on campus

Bradley Battles - 4 star... hasn't done a single thing

Leslie Sitrrups - 3 star... kicked off the team for smoking too much

Proof that stars mean absolutely nothing.

I think Holtz and Leavitt recruit very different players. Leavitt seemed to go after talent at all costs, while Holtz targets players that fit well with his system. I feel like ever since Holtz has taken over our program, we have been recruiting players who stay out of trouble and are high character athletes. We haven't any arrests or off-the-field issues and our APR is still steadily improving.

If it's a trade-off between bums who will do more activities off the field than on, and high character athletes who stay out of trouble, but win fewer games, I would always opt for the latter. I would rather win games the right way than compromise the integrity of the program.

Having said that, I think our recruiting has been fairly consistent with our new coach. If you want to rate based on stars, this year has potential to be our best recruiting season yet.

Come on dude, if Holtz's "talent" was that much better, how do you square that with last year? Are you then saying that the coaches were "bums" last year?

High-character with low winning percentage means crap in competitive college football. Once Holtz and crew prove that their "high character" recruits can actually win consistently, then you can start your chirping......in the prism of last year your comments are all as hollow as a chocolate Easter bunny.

I never said Holtz's recruit were more talented. I think, if anything, Leavitt's recruits were far more talented if we're only considering performance on the field.

We had a very bad year last year, but let's not pretend that Leavitt ever led to us to significantly better seasons with his recruits. At this point, Leavitt and Holtz have had pretty similar accomplishments here at USF. And, to be fair to Holtz, he's only in his third season here. He's still playing with a QB that he didn't recruit.

  4. Room for more at large teams. If that is accurate, there would still be AQ for some of the BCS bowl slots which would continue as it does today. The real question is whether there still is a real or de facto AQ, and wheter the BE would have one.

The commissioners were very diligent in making sure each of the 11 FBS conferences would have access to playing in the semifinals and other BCS games. They eliminated "AQ" and "non-AQ" status at a meeting in April, so teams from any of the 11 conferences would be eligible to be selected for the playoffs by the committee. The commissioners are also considering adding at least one more BCS bowl (and possibly two) to create more at-large berths for teams from outside the bigger conferences. It's believed the new Champions Bowl, which would pit a Big 12 team against an SEC team, might be part of the BCS rotation.

If that is truly the case, just create one more BCS bowl game for the Big East and Mountain West conferences. Then it's a win-win-win.

  5. Kids report for Summer B orientation next week. I've heard nothing to suggest Lynch won't be sitting out the 2012 season and playing in 2013.

Thanks Greg, but I have to say I really dislike the use of double negatives in a sentence.

    That's not a double negative.

Yes it is, "Nothing", and "won't"

I really don't want to get into a semantical debate, but had he said, "I haven't heard nothing to suggest he won't be sitting out the 2012 season," THAT would be a double negative because the "haven't heard nothing" includes a superfluous negative that adds nothing to the meaning of the sentence.

The way Greg worded his sentence suggests that there has been no indication that he won't sit out this season (this sentence is also not a double negataive). He could have also said, "I haven't heard anything to suggest he won't be sitting out this season" and it would have the same meaning.

  7. Jerk cannot write an article about USF without taking a couple of swipes at us. Luckily their readership is something like 75 or 80 people... :-)

Seriously though, this is the same writer who has a woodrow for UCF.... Hates USF for some reason and it shows in his usf related articles (which he writes about 10 of a year it seems).

Just read the article and can't find a single swipe at USF. Can you tell us with what portion of the article do you take umbrage to?

  8. As great that it is that JPP is getting such exposure because this helps to extend the brand of the USF name, the undertones of this article is such to imply that JPP is not that bright. The writer of this article went to great lengths not to say so explicitly, but he nonetheless leaves the impression that JPP is just a little bit slow.

JPP is a great football player and a nice guy, but it's painful to hear him speak sometimes because he lacks any eloquence or ability to express himself clearly. I have no doubt that he's a great person and football player, but it's hard to ignore his lacking in mental sharpness. I'm not sure this article does much to dispel that impression.

  9. Their coach lied on his resume.  Why should we assume he's beyond lying to a HS recruit?  They continue to lie to their recruits about having a BCS conference invite as well.

But if Damarcus really believed that they would bench Godfrey-- who only helped to lead UCF to one its best seasons ever as a Freshmen--  to give a shot to some incoming Freshmen, he must be really dumb or really naive.

  10. Wow.  Where to start...

Bianchi starts off with a hypothesis and continues with the assumption this is true.  He calls Genshaft's office and when-- surprise, surprise-- gets no official response from Genshaft, insists that that is PROOF that Genshaft is blackballing UCF.  Just because our school president doesn't come out and campaign for our "sister program" that must mean she is secretly campaigning against them.  Case closed.  No questions asked.

Bianchi then suggests we chickened out of continuing the UCF-USF series and went to "play the likes of Wofford and Stony Brook."  Wrong buddy.  We went on to playing the likes of Miami and FSU.  He got one thing right: playing UCF IS beneath our football program.

He also cites that Rick Pitino and our football coach spoke publicly about UCF joining the conference.  Two things: one, Rick Pitino is a basketball coach and I don't give two violation about what he thinks when it comes to adding a football program; and two, when the hell did Skip Holtz express his support for UCF joining the conference?

For a school that loves to rip the Big East conference as being an inferior BCS conference, they sure do have a fetish for our conference.  This article has no fact and is pure speculation, but UCF fans will take Bianchi as gospel (as they always do) and will be sure to get roused up over this.

Why did the Sentinel even print this garbage?

  11. Would be a pretty good get ... looks like he has some GREAT mobility, doesn't have the strongest arm but he's accurate and hits the open guys.

    Here's a cool Youtube:

He has an awkward throwing motion.

I'm sure Holtz will put into consideration that Bridgewater is a dual-threat QB who would probably thrive far better in a spread offense.  Do you really think Holtz is looking for that kind of player?

  12. I'm going to say it:  UCF just isn't worthy of a rivalry with USF.  We should continue pursuing a rivalry with Miami-- a team which also lacks a true geographical rival.  It'd be far more interesting and beneficial to both teams.

However, if God wills it so that UCF is in the Big East and this (non)rivalry is resurrected, we should at least invent a trophy and title for this game to give it some ummphh.  But we would have to permanently affix this trophy to our trophy case because UCF would never win this game!
