Very disappointing loss for sure; some bright spots: Pujols' shooting, Henshaw's interior play.
The team stands at 15-3 currently; they have at least 2 games left against Temple, and another against UConn. Unfortunately, I don't see a path to them hosting the first round other than winning out (except for UConn). If they win a 3-game series against Temple (win at home, win in the 2/3 AAC Semi-final) and win all but 1 (maybe 2) of the remaining games, they should be okay for the NCAA's, as a 7-10 seed.

I don't even know what to say... I mean, I don't think any of us were expecting to see the team win or even keep it within 10 in the 4th... But my God, that was the Hawks vs. District 5.
USF's games vs. Temple will tell the tale of where this team goes.

Yuge crowd??
1,900; above average for women's basketball, but much lower than this team deserves.

Looking forward to seeing a solid W tonight!

uhhhhh no. it was an overtime win against a 6-6 team
A win against an SEC team who has made a habit of over-performing at bowl games, a team that was coached by the same person all season, and a team that beat a ranked Tennessee squad.

St. Francis entire offensive strategy was 'take the ball down, find the first open 3-pt. Shooter, and launch it.' They have some shooters, but you're not going to win games like that.
SFU's defense... I don't have the words for the degree of awful their defense was. A 50-point win, and it wasn't even that close

Thought this warranted its own thread.
Flight options as of December 4th:
Flight options direct from Tampa: Southwest, limited and pricey leaving Wednesday and coming back Friday. If you're flexible on dates and want to extend your trip: leave Tuesday and come back Saturday. This is a bit long for my taste:
Flight options direct from Orlando: Southwest, a couple options with good prices leaving Wednesday and coming back Friday.
What are the expectations for a bus from Tampa? How much would this likely cost?
About 150 on Greyhound last night; not sure now, though. Waiting to see if USF will offer a package.

As a USF and South Carolina Alum, I've been waiting for this for 6 years. Of course, back in Fall 2011 I thought it was going to be in a BCS Bowl, but that... Just didn't happen.

Not going to lie, I figured this year to be a rebuilding year after losing our top scorer and all-around baller Courtney Williams and our leading rebounder Alisa Jenkins. I've been pleasantly surprised. Can we compete with a "down" UCONN team or Louisville? That remains to be seen but I'm very excited to see them try.
I agree; I thought at the end of last season that this team will make a deep WNIT run; now, I think they're capable of a 7-10 NCAA bid.
-
I definitely thought this; we looked absolutely awful during the 1st quarter. There was one offensive sequence when we went 3-and-out, got a first down gift-wrapped to us, and then went 3-and-out again! I'm thrilled that the team got their ish together and pulled out a solid win that was never in doubt once they took the lead.

Who knows on opening day, but I don't think hype, overconfidence or looking ahead is a worry. Most player still smell the stench of McNeese State, and the near loss to WCU 2 years ago.
Add to that Appy St almost beating Tennessee (w/a good kicker, they do), and Maine nearly beating UConn, I think this will be wide awake.
I do think Towson has a talented (but unproven) QB and a strong RB, so they may score close to 20. But I can't see their D slowing our O, which should easily score 30, and likely 40+.
Sorcerer...

Until I hear what happened I am siding with the coach. Suppose it was a curfew thing... Do you just blow it off? Or do you send a message to the players that even the best player is held accountable for following the rules.
The commentators mentioned she didn't practice yesterday; maybe she's not feeling well.

Correct GA. This works very well for me. I just think it's a bit odd that USFAA and USF Athletics did not send out a communication. I knew it was going to happen based on an event at the Sun Dome on 10/22 that could not be moved. It was in the works for a period of time. So many jumped to massive conclusions. Always assume positive intent.
Go Bulls!
What's at the Sun Dome on 10/22 that can't be moved?

looking at colorado state they haven't played anyone really good so their record may not show anything. Looks like they only played BYU

This. The same reason South Carolina's playing in the NIT; their schedule was as SAWFT as Enzo Amore's opponent.

To be honest, though I'm happy for the conference, Monmouth deserved the bid more than Tulsa.
Meanwhile, some of my fellow Gamecock alum friends are losing their ever-loving minds because apparently a sub-200 nonconference SOS and a loss to Missouri and 3 losses to fellow NIT-er UGA is excusable.
-
Now they have to play Temple, who will absolutely be playing at 100% today, as they're playing for their NCAA lives. This is another reason I hate conference tournaments: 3 games in 3 days heightens the potential for injuries and fatigued players; the AAC would be smarter to spread the tournament out over two weekends, with home teams playing in the first weekend, and move it to the neutral site for the semis and finals.

Stringfield has been a great bonus this year. The only other legit ball handler than Courtney, I'm happy to see her get some praise.
Too bad Jenkins was out for a few games, or she'd easily be a second-teamer. Love seeing her go up against bigger opponents and get the rebound or block.
I hope our girls can make a respectable run this year, I have a feeling we're going to be out for the next season or two...be great if I'm dead wrong.
I think they'll still be the second-best team in the conference; Ferriera and Laksa will be our strong shooters, hopefully Weber can improve her shot down low, and they'll have some strong freshmen coming in. I think they still make the tourney next year, but as an 11-13 seed; in 2 years, they'll be where they were this/last year.

I really wish Stringfield had another year; she was fearless, fast, and arguably the scrappiest player on the team. They won at Tulane because of her last-minute shot; looking at their record now and where they stand in terms of the NCAA Tourney, every win counted.

I'm not holding my breath, but if we do the impossible and beat UCONN and make it to the AAC Finals we might sneak up to a 4 seed.
Agreed, but this would literally be the ONLY scenario I see it happening; that, or win the AAC torunament.
7 hours ago, Blackice12 said:Will the team stay in Connecticut after the game, since the tournament starts 4 days later?
Coach Fernandez said after the game on Saturday they'll be flying back; it isn't prudent for the team to miss 3 days of classes to save money on plane tickets; plus, the extra hotel costs would likely outweigh plane costs

Great game. Loud and fun crowd!
I thought that as well, during the game; outside of UConn, this was definitely the best crowd we've had all season. Hopefully we luck out and they get a decent first-round weekend location (Tallahassee, Gainesville and Columbia, SC are all possibilities); it would really suck if they had to go out to the west coast.
-
If the tournament were to start today, It's a fair prediction they'd be heading to Tally as the 7 seed; possibly against Tennessee, who should be thankful to be getting a bid.

It was NOT a "Great" game, by a long shot!
It's on par with their game; they put up a lot of shots, get a lot of offensive rebounds and second-chance points. At the end of the day, it's a W, and it's one that puts us at 21-8 on the season, and pretty much clinched the 2nd consecutive NCAA tournament, and 5th straight postseason. No complaints here.
-
Huge win for a lot of reasons:
- #2 seed in the AAC is clinched
- If they were to lose this game, and lose at UConn, the an NCAA bid would have very likely depended on the AAC tourney, and we've all seen how they've played on the road. Now, it's hard to envision any scenario where they don't earn a bid, even with a 2nd round AAC tourney loss.
- Looking at the box score, the ball was spread out all over; this team is way, way more than a one-Williams show; every single player on that team is capable of contributing in a big way.

Ugly, ugly win tonight over the Mustangs; SMU had a chance to win at the buzzer, air-balled a wide-open 3.
