  1. Make it into the starting lineup this season.  That would mean he's getting the grades and busting his ass.  Remember he'll have to beat out Ponton, Plancher and Williams.  That would be a pretty impressive feat to me.

From what I've read regarding Spring practices, Aston Samuels may be getting the bulk of the carries come fall.  Josh's articles have got me really excited to see him play.

  2. Question for you guys.  How has USF historically done since we went 1-A, recruiting class wise.  Where has Scout/Rivals ranked our classes since 2001, or whenever they started ranking us.  What has been our highest ranked class.  Not how they panned out, but how they were ranked on signing day.  Does someone know this history.  Scout now has us a #49, we have fluctuated between #44 and 54 recently on scout.  Thanks.

    On Scout:

    '02 - Tied for 100th Nationally

    '03 - 108th

    '04 - 43rd

    '05 - 54th

    '06 - Tied for 56th

'07 - 49th....but looks to be short a few new Bulls

USF fluctuated due to the Blue Chip players waiting until recently to announce their commitments.

  3. Looks like Travaris Cadet is going to Minnesota.

Too bad, this was the guy I hoped would be the finishing touch to our class.

Maybe now we make a run at Bert Reed, who decommitted from UF.  Maybe give him a shot at playing QB.......

From what I've read, Cadet going to Minn had more to do with USF not having any space for him.  The results from this weekends recruiting will known soon enough but I believe that USF is well over it's scholarship quota.

  4. I just wanna say I think it's hilarious that football recruits are referred to as "kids." At 6'3'', 225 pounds, the word "kid" isn't the first thing to come to my mind. In addition, most recruits are 18, which is the age of legal adulthood. Technically, with respect to the length of a potential football career, college recruits are still closer to the beginning of their careers, but it seems somewhat patronizing to call them kids.

I always considered myself a "kid" through college.  Until your "job" isn't school I woundn't see it any other way.

  5. I was just reading an update on Scout and of all the guys coming in for visits this weekend only one did not show...and it was not Davis.  Hopefully CJL will sit down with him and find out what he wants to do.

I really get the impression that Toledo is his backup plan if he doesn't qualify with grades with USF.  Can't fault the kid for that.  USF just needs to make sure that they have a backup plan in case he doesn't qualify.

  6. I don't mean to sound like Smazza, but how is a non-BCS school two years removed from going 0-17 having the same recruiting year as us? Is it because their new facilities? Is it because they have a coach that was hired by Notre Dame? What is it? We are doing great but I didn't expect for UCF to do as good as us.

They are recruiting the same places that USF is but due to the current "talent" level, UCF can offer playing time right away.

i think we need to start picking up the slack if we plan on winning the Big East in the next 5 yrs or so..

Pitt constantly has a top recruiting class...it hasn't translated on the field yet.  Some coaches are great recruiters but mediocre coaches (i.e. Zook @UI).  We'll be fine.

good point and usf will be fine if you mean middle of the pack dont compete for big east title fine

Last time I checked, our recruiting classes were improving year after year.   You don't build empire overnight.  What's really going to help the cause is to start consistently putting Bulls in the NFL.

    10 years isnt overnight

no empire will be built at usf if we cant out recruit competition

we are in middle of the best talent in the sport

usf should be dominating the recruiting  with leavitt being here 10 years

Why should USF be dominating the recruiting???  Because you think so???  The big three have been among the tops in the nation now for 20+ years and have all the tradition.  And the way they got there was by taking the recuits that they could get and winning games.  Over time those wins translated into traditions and then the big recruits started coming in.  Sorry that LA has dissipated your patients...

  9. who has the potential to be a star?

The tape I've seen on Richard Kelly is really impressive. I really hope the coaches draw up some plays to really utilize him.  He seems to catch the ball well and I'd love to see him running over the opponents secondary...

I also could see Quenton Washington becoming a stud.  The kid had 11 picks this year against very good competition. If he RS's this year, then our secondary will graduate and he could end up with a lot of playing time for 4 years.

  10. Hey! dont make fun of JP's side kick.  That Bobby Fenton, he's the reason that I get 15-20 minutes a week to do a USF recruiting update on ESPN radio.  He went to UF, but he's extremely pro USF.  I'm sure he was asking Marve questions about USF because we've talked about him several times on the air.

    Josh Newberg

What I heard was them discussing the Times article regarding Marve's visit to Alabama.  Bobby said he still thought Miami and USF were the favorites to get Marve and JP chimmed in with some comment that he hoped Marve ended up at FSU because they didn't have a single decent QB.

  11. About the only interesting thing would be if he goes to Miami... then we have the chance to smack him down in '09...

Tampa, Florida (09/26/09) Raymond James Stadium

Senior Quarterback Matt Grothe will lead the USF Bulls into a match with the Miami Hurricanes, featuring former Plant QB in junior Robert Marve. (I don't expect him to RS in Miami, their QBs are not that good).

I just caught the last few minutes of Marve talk on JP's radio show today and could have sworn that they were saying that FSU and USF were still in there with him ..... This is like Hollywood gossip stuff.   ;)

I caught it too. JP's sidekick was the one who said it.  It was in response to JP asking him where he thought Marve would wind up.  It sounded to me like he just hadn't read a recent article on the subject.  Neither of them know a lick about football.
