  1. the backup qb spot will be the most important position for us next yr.  we are a completely different team when grothe isn't in there.  it seems as if the offense is tailored to grothe's style, and anyone else who is plugged in there (i.e.- julmiste) just doesn't allow the offense to slow as efficiently.  i think julmiste led us to 1 FG after almost an entire 2nd half of work.  whenever grothe gets hurt, i get REALLY worried.

who will be the backup next yr?  i hope we have something like the wvu's combo of jarret brown & pat white next yr.  brown seemed to have stepped in nicely for wvu as they beat rutgers.

  2. you all need to quit complaining about the Glazers.  I've been a Bucs fan before I was a Bulls fan (mainly because Bulls football didn't exist when i was growing up) and I thank the Glazers for everything they've done.  Compared to Hugh Culverhouse, malcolm is a god.  Granted, the new NFL rules of salary cap have help equal the playing field for small market teams, when the Glazers assembled the front office during the dungy era, it showed that they really wanted a winning product on the field.

now, as for how it relates to USF and how he has a sweet deal, why would you blame him?  it's not like malcolm held a gun to USF's head and forced us to sign it.  USF agreed to that contract and through it all, has gotten to the BCS.  also, if it weren't for the bucs, i don't think tampa would be the big football town that it stands today.

it's funny how those who are Anti-getting-an-OCS are the same people that use the whole 'we can use the ray jay as a recruiting tool' as another argument.  the crappy deal we're getting from the glazers is also helping us recruit better (as some of you claim) and keeping most of you from complaining about chairs with no backs and no cupholders.

i've been a proponent of an OCS for the exact reason of this article.  ya ya ya, blah blah blah, about we don't have money right now.  i understand that.  but while i wait, i'm not gonna ***** about the crappy deal we have with the glazers.

  3. It's a joke. Perhaps a bit too cerebral a joke for generally dense Floridians, but a joke. I laughed.

I laughed too.  It's not trying to offend USF, so everyone needs to stop taking it as such.  People here take things too personally.  It just means that USF is new, and unheard of outside of the local area.. and it is IRONIC that the local paper confuses it with University of San Francisco.

It's called IRONY.  It can be used as a form of comedy.  So give this whole 'rise up against the media beasts and fight the oppression of being the butt of jokes' attitude a rest already.

  4. Moderating?

dude-- Brad OWNS this board-- LITERALLY

ok, DUDE.  i just think that people were putting words in my mouth.  nothing i said was classless.  i didn't put down any players on our team.  i say the fact that MG > PJ, and that i believed it all along, and i'm msg board crucified.  everyone just needs to quit taking everything so personally.

  5. i think grothe has been USF's saving grace for the year.  it gives us all something to look forward to, and it's a reminder that we're going in the right direction (as long as he was starting).. appreciated PJ's effort, but the inconsistency was killing the program and killing the recruiting.  not to say that MG has been inconsistent (see KU, Cincy), but he's young, so you can give him that pass for right now.

i'd like to see our run game step it up.  i dont like the idea of our QB as leading rusher- it's too many eggs in 1 basket

  6. Not very classy of you the day after a huge win - months after PJ had been replaced by MG - to make such an incorrect and inconsequential comment.  PJ is a part of this team and did what he could for this team for four years.  To attempt to slight him and others is lacking of any class.

not once did i bad-mouth PJ.  you should spend more time moderating instead of instigating.  i was simply saying that MG has had more talent all along, and that people on this msg board tend to remain loyal to players rather than remain loyal to the overall interest of the team.

  7. Why bother Mike?

That comment by PitBull joins the thread yesterday that said we all wanted to figure out "how to get rid of Jim Leavitt" in the "I love this coach" thread.  Some people look for an opening or a stupid comment made by someone here to indict the whole board when, in fact, most of these comments being churned up since the WVU win were spawned by the Dark Side.   I can't recall one person saying we should ride PJ to the end, but yet the "realists", "Dark Siders" and some other posters think that is what CJL and every supportive USF fan wanted.   They're also the one(s) that would like to ride CJL out of town.

    Just plain stupid.

    modified to correct typo

    Pretty classy comment.  ::)

  8. simultaneoulsy any loss to bad teams like kansas and cinncy or bad performances against bad teams will keep usf in obscurity

i agree.  overall this season, this win in morgantown is negated by a loss to a lowly 6-6 kansas team, which is inexcusable.  if we can get our act straight, then maybe we might be constants in the premier college football landscape.

  9. put down the kool ade my friend

so you're saying that Rod Smith is better than Larry Coker?  Ok, your vote has been noted.

realistically, i think Coker might end up at FIU worst case scenario.  He obviously has made a decent recruiting trail through So. Fla, enough that he could develop something with FIU.  However, I'd love to see him as OC here.  I just have memories of the Ken Dorsey/Andre Johnson/Jeremy Shockey/Portis days when Coker was calling the plays and they were an offensive juggernaugt (good defense too).  That'd be great over here with Grothe = Dorsey

  10. wins are what matter

we should have beaten kansas and rutgers,

if we had at 9-2 the schedule would not matter.

i hate playing the woulda/coulda/shoulda game.  if this were the case, we should have lost to UCF, McNease St, and FIU, considering how long they hung with us.  it is what it is, we definitely need to pick up the slack.

  11. i'll be the loudest cheering for us on saturday, but i wouldn't bet my house on it by any means..

despite the game at UL, i still think WVU is the best team in the Big East and probably our best representative in a BCS game.

if wv is the best team why didnt they prove it when they had to and had the chance?

wv had one tough game all year to prepare for and they laid an egg

wv would have lost to any other top 10 team

because they are not perfect like you

  12. Each year the quality of student-athletes we recruit goes up.  More and more will stick around longer.

not sure about that one.  i remember seeing the rankings of our recruiting class this past year, and it was pretty dismal.  i just remember seeing a bunch of 2 and 3 star recruits.  in fact, i think pitt's class had the best recruiting class this past yr.

granted, i think there's  such a fine line between a good and a bad recruit, i truly believe that it's more about coaching.

  13. USF is a young team.  Many of these players have never visited Louisville.

i dont think that's a good excuse.  pat white and steve slaton are only sophomores, they won the big east and the sugar bowl last year.  mike teel and ray rice are sophomores too, they seem to be doing alright, despite about to lose tonight.

this lack of preparation has been a trademark with our program for a while.  i dont think we can every consider ourselves to be true players in the college football landscape unless we get that big win on the road, and i dont think we've had that yet.  sure, that win vs. pitt w/blackwell was a statement game, but we gotta get wins like that every year, and we havent been able to.  it's got me a little worried.
