  1. At risk of letting your imaginations run wild, I think he just doesn't want to field football questions.

If true, that's really unbelievable. If a football question came up, simply say some BS answer I.e. "we're always evaluating, always trying to get better, I'm here to talk basketball." end of discussion.

We can do better at AD if that's the kind of backbone little Dougy has.

  2. CJL in an interview as the 49er LB coach, stated that he saw this program winning a NC in 5 years or so... The thought might have been a bit crazy, but it goes to show the type of passion and belief he had in this football team. He will forever consider this program his baby. It makes me sick every time I think about how he was treated during that witch hunt against him.

I wish nothing but the worst for Brett McMurphy and his joke of a career. The guy will never be respected by anyone... Ever /endrant

  3. The way I look at it, we have 2 options here:

    A) Buyout Holtz - we'll need a booster to step up and deliver if this is going to happen. I'd personally love to see Skip gone, but I realize the financial hardships that this could bring.

    B. New DC - I'm not talking about another Cosh type who has done nothing as a DC and is completely inept to hold that position at ANY level of CFB. I'm talking about a Wally Burnham type... somebody that can mildly excite the fanbase and get us back to being a defensive minded team that punches people in the mouth.

It's time to revamp the defensive staff if Skippy is going to stay.

  4. Obviously the "fumble forward" should be either #1 or somewhere near the top... some others that I haven't seen mentioned are the Thurs night disaters: Pitt loss last year (many of us had high hopes, esp after beating ND), Pitt loss in 08 (felt sick after Wanstache mocked the student section while running into the tunnel)

  5. I firmly agree that the only way this game will be fun for "us" as USF fans will be to take it on while blacked out. My choice is whisky straight and powerful IPA's

picking up a growler of Jai Alai this week

Nice choice... I'm treating this Saturday as a huge friggin party. Let's take one from Ole Miss "We may lose the game but we've never lost a party"

  6. Oh to have the unbridled optimism of an Oregon alumnus..........I think I last had that right before the Sun Bowl second half started.

The 2nd half of the Sun Bowl is right where I lost confidence in The Jim.

I was there and we were lucky to hang with them in the 1st half. The athlete differential was substantial and I saw it first hand. There are some games where JL was definitely outcoached but this one came down to athletes for me and Oregon had them in spades.

1 bad half of football lead you to see a substantial difference in athletes? Vegas had us picked to win that game, we were definitely out-coached and outplayed in the 2nd half, but to say that athlete differential was substantial is absurd.

  7. This is the type of positive flow that we all need right now. Let's focus on what can be. At the end of the day we are 2-2. If we had lost that heart-breaker to Nevada and beat Ball State, we wouldn't be in the crisis mode that we are all in right now. 2-2 is 2-2. If we somehow manage to do our annual "pull a game out of our asses" special on Saturday, the entire tone for the rest of the season will change. The most dangerous thing in the world is a desperate animal, cornered, with nothing to lose. I think we see a completely different team on Saturday. Do we win? Probably not. But there is a reason this game opened +14. The "experts" saw something in FSU's 1st half performance that led them to believe that they are somewhat susceptible.

I wouldn't call our previous wins vs. FSU, WVU or UM a "pull a game out of our asses special." We had some special talent on defense and a lot of people on these boards were optimistic going into those games. Now, nearly all of us realize that we have almost no shot going into this FSU game.

BUT... if the proper corrections are made, anything can happen. Hopefully we can call ourselves a second half (of the season team) after this year, though I highly doubt that will happen.

  8. What we saw at Ball State was not indicative of how well this team CAN play... Cosh/Holtz have to revamp the defensive scheme, 0 QB sacks, 0 tackles for a loss, and 1 QB hurry is completely unacceptable. The lack of aggression we have shown on defense is mind boggling.

Now that we're supposedly healthy in the secondary, let's see what happens. I'm trying to stay positive this week, but it's extremely difficult.

A win vs. FSU will save Holtz's job (for this season at least) and he has to know that.

  9. I might be wrong but with Skip only being in his third year, aren't most of our seniors from the Jimmy Era? Skip took a team from Carolina and did good things there. I laugh at how quick fans turn on coches so quick. Let's not forget that when there is a big win its the student athletes that did it and the coach had nothing or little to do with it. Coaches will always be blammed for losses and losing streaks. Give Skip some time and let him bring in kids that fit his style of play. I think everyone got so spoiled by the (non-deserving) ranking we got a few years back. No way we should have ever been ranked that high and it showed when the wheels fell off. The Tampa Bay area is one of the biggest fair-weather fan base I have ever been a part of. I agree with Trip B, let's go ahead and make the entire (true) USF fan base look like idiots on national television. Makes perfect sense and I'm sure the nation would get plenty of laughs out of it. Hell we may even get some teams like Texas and Bama to schedule us as tune-up games and that might increase season ticket sales. Sit back, relax, grab a cold bev, and enjoy being able to watch college football without having to worry about your house being hit by an RPG or all the all garbage going on accross this world. If we beat FSU this weekend, can we give some people on here a "time-out?"

I won't even get into the rest of this post, but I'm sorry, this is something that so many fans are just completely wrong on. We 100% deserved that ranking AT THAT TIME. Preseason rankings are undeserved because they are based on conjecture. Rankings in week 5, 6, 7, etc.... primarily are based on results on the field. Which they should be. At that time, no one in the country had a better resume than us. We we're 6-0, with 2 victories over top 20 teams, and blow out victories over UNC and UCF. Yes, we did not end up being the second best team in the country for the whole 2007 year, and the ranking beared that out. You can say that by the end of the year, that ranking turned out to be inacurrate, but to say it was "non-deserving" is just flat out wrong. Maybe this is splitting hairs, but just the way I feel.

We should have been #1 at the time... We earned that ranking, OSU did not have the same quality wins that we did at the time.

  10. It was only one game right? What about last year? we didn't even go to a bowl game! Stupid mistakes are the calling card of this team, this year and ever since ol Skippy has been here. Lets see personal foul and fumble against WVU last game of the year last year, kept us out of the bowls games...that is poor coaching and this year has been poor coaching. At least under Leavitt we would go 6-0 and give us hope and national attention, then lose 3 or 4, but with skippy it takes us all season to win 6. FIRE SKIP HOLTZ!!!!

We didnt even go to a bowl game? What a silly statement. In big boy football teams dont go to bowl games every year. I'm pretty sure USF is the most entitled fan base ever.

What are you talking about? There is no reason that we shouldn't be in a bowl game every year. Especially playing in the BE
