  1. Wow, you took all that time for a stupid joke.  Not funny at all.  I just had someone call me saying they read this so I logged on immediately  to check.

To think a man who won the NCAA championship would come here would be great.  Also lets stop with the darkside stuff.  i dont think the darkside wanted mac out for someone who you claim or Im guessing your point is a crooked coach.  We wanted mac out because he flat out could not win games.  Period!

you have way too much time on your hands bro.  Not funny.

  2. Please hire this guy.  I would match whatever anyone offered him and use Tampa and the Big East as my selling points.  But I dont like the fact that he is from indiana, played on Southern illinois and is being lured by minnesota.  I woud say tampa and the big east would be a way better sell to a recruit from anywhere, but it seems this guy is probably proud to be in the mid west and can probably sell the crap out of his vision and idea.  May be a tough get, but would be a great one.

  3. I bet UF wants nothing to do with JF anymore.

5-11 vs top 100 RPI teams does not get you in and does not give you the right to make demands at your universities marketing department, IMO.  I think he spoke a little too soon bragging about what he as done so far in the beginning of the year.  Only one thing to do, win the NIT and turn it around for next year.

  4. That is great the team is still going.  They were a good group of guys when Reub was the captain and if you ever saw a real lacrosse game it really is exciting.  It is true about going out and playing.  They recruited me for my rare athletic ability :), but my stick handling was like my ice skaing, borderline spazstic.  I should have played defense though and laid some people out.  I would have been better than that loud mouth Boston pansy that was afraid to hit.  LOL

Reuben gump looks like he is making a mental note for his one man party at the end of the night.

    GO Bulls!

  5. i know i have talked bad about Jarvis on this board but it is not because of his coaching ability.

    the good:

He understands where people are from and doesnt judge people.  ex. Ron Artest, obviously has some mental problems but you grow up like he did and you would understand.  One of the best college players i have ever seen.

Got st johns job in summer of 1998 and took them to the elite 8 in 1999, losing to a good Ohio State team with Michael Redd and Scoonie Penn.

Won Big East championship in 2000.

He took George Washinton to sweet 16 in the 90's with Yinka Dare, known in the NBA as Mr assist man (career had like 2 assists in lots of games) also known as Yinka you Stinka to NJ Nets fans, nasty in college though.

He coached Pat Ewing in high school and Karl hobbs (current GW coach and a candidate for our job)

The bad: (the reason i personally do not like him)

changed the history of st . johns, who used to heavily recruit NYC kids.  When he came to st johns the best players in the city would go to Pitt, UConn, Louisville, and everywhere else in the country and BE, and it seemed he got the 2nd choice sich is still good but not for St. Johns, back then.

some high school coaches wouldnt even let him in their gyms to talk to their players due to personal dislikes, ex. Bob Oliva head coach of prominant Christ the King HS in Queens, Ny dispised Jarvis.

Had 4-5 of his players have sexual relations while taping it with their cell phones with a airline stewardess in Pittsburgh during a road trip.

Had ncaa violation which led to loss of some scholarships and were left out of the BE tournament for these reasons.

Had St Johns AD change the face of the program.  No longer recruit anyone with a flaw in their background, where if you dont have those kids to choose from, while risky, you are giving up alot.

Honeslty, i know he is a good coach, i just feel he left my old favorite ncaa team in a way worse position then when he go there.  But while he was there he did have some promising seasons, but at the end of his career there were some very shady situations and they werent winning consistently.  But hineslty I would put my prejudgements aside and definitely give him a chance.  He is well know figure in the NCAA with his track record and ESPN job.

  6. I was thinking Calipari the last few days - but I didn't mention because of $$.  But wouldn't he love to get out of C-DOA and coach in a real league?  Or maybe he likes the C-DOA automatic berth every year...

That is star power right there.

I was thinking the same thing.  Every time i look at conference usa i swear it gets worse and worse every time.  He has to hate hearing you dont play anyone all day.  May be some wishful thinking but that would be great.

  7. Alright....Huggins talk can take place on the General Sports Forum, the K-State Board, UC Board or the www.funkyfantasy.com boards.

Alright....Huggins talk can take place on the General Sports Forum, the K-State Board, UC Board or the www.funkyfantasy.com boards.

My bad, had to defend myself when someone says I am proving my overall ignorance when he obviously cares more about the people who wanted Mac to leave, then the overall good of the university.  And also did not understand my post at all and just tells the board to SHUT UP AND SUPPORT.

  8. Please stop showing your overall ignorace by using Bob Huggins as the litmus test for successful hoops coaches.  He has a very long, proven track record of NCAA violations, investigations, poor graduation rates, and poor personal decisions (DUI, etc.).  He is a loser as a person and all the winning in the world on a hoops court will not fix that.

He destroyed Cincy over the long haul and will not last long enough in Kansas to do the same.  Personal integrity means lots in a disposal, instant gratification world.

    Go Bulls!

First off, Huggins was a perfect example of how it does not take 4-5 years to turn a program around.  there are plenty others i can use, but he is probably the most recent and popular (had nothing to do with his affilation with usf last year, but take it how you want to).  but comments like yours makes YOU really sound ignorant.  Now I can tell by the thread you posted you are angry Mac has been fired and almost are taking it personal.  Just relax.

But i would hardly call the 8th winningest active coach in the ncaa a loser.  Also how did he destroy Cincy, when he was there they were always ranked and winning now he is gone they are horrendous.  Your point makes no sense.  And as of right now it really seems he will destroy kansas state as well (sarcasm).  that is a comment by someone who obviously does not like huggins as a person and will say whatever, even if completely wrong just to talk bad about him.  Kansas state has the best recruiting class coming in next year, sold out stadiums, a big time sneaker deal on the verge, got screwed out of the tourney this year, and will be a powerhouse next year.  What are you talking about???

As for the DUI, really, Who cares?  Obviously not America.  Didnt our president get a DUI in his past?  I know plenty of people, young and old, who received DUIs. Im not better than one of them because I dont have one.  Cmon bro.  Im sure you driven a car a little buzzed once or twice in your life.  Put your personal beef and vendetta aside.  noone is talking about huggins to rub it in usf fans face.  Get over yourself and think before you call people ignorant and then post how Cincy is destroyed because of huggins and KState will be too.  Sounds real intelligent.

  9. 1) Matt dougherty - probably one of the best recruiters out there.  Well known, recruited UNCs national championship team, turned around the norte dame basketball program.  From Long Island, so has NY  and north east ties.

    2) Anthony Grant - Donovans right hand man for every aspect of coaching.  Instantly successful at VCU.  Young with lots of charisma.  He might sell himself to players over a well known proven coach.

    3) Reggie theus - well known ex nba player who proved he can win at NMSU.  Got them in the tourney already.  Charismatic and on the verge of being a great coach.  Only problem is i feel he is looking for a big ticket and might jump ship in a few years.

Its close but probably in that order, but any of those guys shouldnt be too expensive and too hard to get.  These are only my top 3, there are lots of other candidates out there that could do a great job.  I trust Woolard is going to find us a good coach.

  10. .

Under terms of the contract, Huggins may be fired if he is convicted of a criminal offense involving fraud, commits an act that causes material injury to the university's reputation or violates Big 12, NCAA or university rules.

I wonder if all coaches have this specifically put in their contracts or just huggins due to his shaky reputation.

To answer your question, Yes I want us to be like KSU and TTU.  TTU is a lock for the tournament and KSU will most likely be in.  Thats all a fan can ask for,  get us into the NCAA tournament and then anything can happen.

  11. Not true.  College basketball can be turned around in 1-2 years.  Kansas State will go from mediocre to a powerhouse next year because of one good coach.

Al Skinner is one man talking about his experience at URI then the move to BC in the BE and now the ACC.  But he has always been successful.  He got the BC job in 97 and was BE coach of the year in 2000 with a #3 seed in the tourney.  i wouldnt say it took him so long, would you?  So i think this is just a statement made to help unsuccessful coaches like Mac and others get through the tough times.  These guys all have the same profession and are in the same fraternity.  they all have each others backs because they know they are hired to be fired.

4-5 years is ridiculous, but i understand why he said it.

Couldn't agree with you more but I don't understand why he said it.  Why do you think he said it ?

This is only a guess, but Im assuming he said it recently.  This is the time lots of coaches are getting fired.  So I guess he is just trying to make fans realize how tough their jobs are.  Maybe putting in perspective for some of us.

  12. Matt Dougherty, Tom Pecora, Carl Hobbs, Quinn Snyder, Jim Harrick (j/k trip), Fran Fraschilla, Steve Lavin, Anthony Grant, Chris Collins, Steve Wojohowski (sp), Reggie Theus, Scott Sutton, Gregg Marshall, Herman momart (they said they are taking all application)

    anyone but Mike Jarvis....please!!

I hate insulting folks on this board and yes I know other folks besides Herm the Worm has said this name but you have to be kidding me MATT DOUGHERTY, that would be the worst move we could make.  he managed to almost ruin UNC basketball by himself and then couldn't hack it at FIU or FAU or whatever powerhouse program he went to.  No way would we hire a guy like him.

Herm the Worm, you must be known for your sense of humor.  but i hate to insult people who really do not know anything about college basketball.  But Matt Dougherty single handily turned around Notre Dame basketball, remember that?  Probably not.  He also recruited the WHOLE UNC TEAM THAT WON THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP (except marvin williams).  I wouldnt call that almost ruining UNC, not even close.  For some reason his couldnt win when his recruits were young and the fans called for his head.  Thats why he was fired,  but the man can recruit his ass off and would be the best coach to ever coach us in the sundome....BY FAR.

Personally, i want Reggie Theus, but Matt Dougherty would exceed my expectations.

  13. Not true.  College basketball can be turned around in 1-2 years.  Kansas State will go from mediocre to a powerhouse next year because of one good coach.

  14. i am more intrested in what resources DW will committ to Bball.

will softball/ baseball/wBball and the rest of athletics get pushed aside?

I was wondering if commiting resorces to hoops would cause friction with the other coaches. Leavitt wants a mess hall, Lelo and Ken want stadiums and I'm sure Jose won't like mens hoops getting more when he has been doing well of late. At least if they decide to build a practice facility Jose will be able to use it. Hopefully the greater good of the athletic program will prevail.

This may sound rude, but honestly who cares what they think?  Its college baseball, softball and womens basketball and i personally would rather watch paint dry over watching college baseball.  If you really want to build revenue, get national exposure and have the greater good of the program prevail you do it through football and mens basketball first, especially since we are in the best basketball conference in the country.  Put a ranking next to USFs name in BE bball and you will see it is well worth it to pay a big time coach.

I beg Woolard to dig deep in those pockets, even if it means taking away from other programs, and make the big hire.

    GO BULLS!

  15. I just want to point out something McCullum should be very proud of.  it is easy to point out the negatives in his career at Usf simply because he was not winning.

On a positive note, solomon Jones STARTED on Wednesday night for the Atlanta Hawks and they pulled out a rare victory.  Sol played 23 minutes, scored 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.  He went 2-4 from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line.  Tonight he didnt get the start (marvin williams #2 or 3 pick is back) but was the first man off the bench and came in pretty quickly.  That is very impressive for a rookie drafted in the 2nd round.  Mac recruited and helped develop his career, which eventually got him drafted and a job in the nba, which IMO is the toughest sport to make it in due to only have 12 players on an active roster and only the best of the best make it.

Job well done Mac and Solomon.

I saw the box and, from the position of his stats, wondered if he started ... ****, that's great. He hadn't been getting that much PT before this, had he? Injuries or just a shake-up the reason for the start?

Atlanta isnt very deep.  joe johnson may be out for the season and even though they play different positions, Solomon will get some extra PT for it.  Marvin Williams was out with a bad back the game Sol started, but it seemed all year he was getting some good time until about a month ago when they stopped playing him as much.  Dont know why the sudden change again, must be impressing the coaches in practice.

  16. how about Larry Brown... yes that Larry Brown. He ripped the Knicks for millions so $$$ should not be a problem. Impressive resume...

    Kansas

    UCLA

    Pistons

    Knicks

    76ers

    excetra, ecxetra, excetra....

    don't laugh......

    why not?

He has a vice president position in the Sixers organization and probably will be coaching the Sixers next year.

Coaches like Larry Brown dont coach for fun, they coach for money.  Not even close to possible.
