  1. Paul Griffin was the best administrator USF has ever had as an AD.  His PR skills were lacking, and so far DW seems to be close to his level as a department leader while having a far higher ability on the 'soft' side.

USF is not in the BE without Paul Griffin.

Agreed, Paul was a great adminsitrator. He lacked on the people skills. When I was there we had an on going pool in the athletic department where the pot would go to someone who got PG to give you a high five.  His nickname was Darth Vader.

  2. Ammaker may have fallen short at Michigan but he is a real quality guy. Many thought he would be the heir apparent for coach K at Duke. He did inherit a mess at Michigan but just could not push them over the top. I think Grant is a better fit for USF but Ammaker would be a fine coach.

I agree, Amaker would be a good choice. I've thought that we would benefit more from an "established" coach. The problem was that most of those guys (Lappas, Jarvis, Lavin) were not guys we wanted. While an up and commer or a big time assistant are good options, I think we need someone with a name. Being that we don't have the money to sway a top flight coach, I think Amaker would be a good option. You have to think we are going to be last in line for the likes of Grant and some of the other mid-major head coaches.

  3. i am more intrested in what resources DW will committ to Bball.

will softball/ baseball/wBball and the rest of athletics get pushed aside?

I was wondering if commiting resorces to hoops would cause friction with the other coaches. Leavitt wants a mess hall, Lelo and Ken want stadiums and I'm sure Jose won't like mens hoops getting more when he has been doing well of late. At least if they decide to build a practice facility Jose will be able to use it. Hopefully the greater good of the athletic program will prevail.

  4. I know most everyone was rooting against Seth today, but it was hard for me not to root for V.Tech with Ced Smith on their bench.  Great player and great person. I wish he was a little further enough along in his coaching career that he would be a serious canidate for the open position.

  5. I was thinking about Lavin the other day after seeing him on ESPN. While I realize the high profile assistant may pay dividends, I think we need someone with established credibility as a head coach. Snyder has too much baggage for Woolard to take on. Fran Fracilla (sp) might be an option because of his northeast connections, althought if I remember correctly he had a stint at The John that didn't end well.  What about Steve Fisher? I only mention him b/c in my past life I dealt with him on a business transaction. I know he had a home in Fort Myers.  I'm curious to see if we go the assistant route if Wojo will be in the mix. I didn't follow the mid-majors enough to know about any of the up and coming head coaches.

  6. I was told by someone in the department that they did offer to match Frey's salary. What they couldn't match was the bonus money that the WVU assistants receive. I was told it is quite significant. This coupled with the change of scenery and the fact that he gets to work with his best friend factored into his decision. I appreciate his time here. I can remember when he and some of the other assistants would work the softball fields for extra money early on.

  7. Scott Glaser has done some minor renovations since becoming director. Painting, new signage. They've recently re-done the green and gold room.  Obviously money isn't readily available.  The Athletic Department went for an increase in student fees to renovate the dome but didn't get all they were looking for. Not sure of the current status. I'm not sure if a complete renovation is in the short-term plans as of now.

  8. Bama is in Tusca. but that game was played in Birmingham. I also agreed to never go back there. The thought of possibly having to play a bowl game there is sickening. I do have to say though that for the first 1/2 it was one of the best games ever. It wound up being one of the worst but for the first 28 or so minutes it was awesome.

  9. Right Altron and BB are only top 5 all time scoring in CUSA.  Think Altron is still #1.  Those dudes sucked!

    ;D

Did I say they sucked. I said there was no improvement. B.B. and Altron were the same players leaving that they were when the walked on campus. I spent a whole season with the guy. He just yelled for players to run his system at practice. I'll give him credit, some of his quips were pretty funny. Magadan was a better coach but not the self-promoter that Seth was.

Seth had the guys in points, steals and assist but never made it to the dance.
