  1. The problem I have with this move is putting this kid behind a shaky o-line that's still trying to find itself and having him throw to a hodge podge of WRs.  It would be one thing if the players around him were confident and experienced with what they're doing, but it sure looks like they aren't.

With regards to the Grothe comparisons, I would argue he was playing with more confident players that already knew the system.  Also, Grothe was more of an improvisational player that could make plays even if WRs weren't getting open or the O-line was breaking down.  White is completely different in that he'll be relying on solid play from the WRs and O-line in order to be successful.  Unfortunately I doubt he'll get solid play from either unit.  Just hope that doesn't shatter his confidence...

  2. I get a kick out of the people who think this is a positive. You do realize the conference we're in is weakening, right? This means to stay at the same strength of schedule level that we've had in the past that we'll need to INCREASE the strength of our OOC games. Pretty simple. We're basically going to be in a similar position as Boise has been in. In an awful conference that creates a weak strength of schedule and needing to offset that weak conference schedule with teams of a higher level. This just doesn't make any sense when you consider the future of our conference.

  3. Toarlyn couldn't rebound if you told him his mom had a gun to her head.

You know Toarlyn isn't a center? He is 6'8 and Heath has him matched up with a 6'11 CENTER. He is going to lose that battle 9/10 times. It is too bad that Omogbehin isn't much help with his size.

Fitz may not be a natural center, but he is our main post player. He needs to start playing like it. Ron Anderson Jr. was the same size as Fitz and held his own in the Big East. It's like Fitz is either a really soft 240lbs or he just has no desire to try to be a post guy.

  4. Realistically there's no one else that USF could get with a better resume'. The guy was the d-coordinator of an nfl dynasty, turned Miami around into one of the top teams in the nation, and turned North Carolina (a school with an absolute joke of a football team at the time) into a competitive ACC program that was nabbing top-tier recruits. Then you have all of the coaching connections this guy has throughout the nfl and college.

If you're USF and looking to go the young, up-start route, then of course Taggart is your man. But if you want to go the experienced route, then I don't know who even comes close to having the record that Davis has, and could recruit like this guy. And anyone who would exaggerate and say this guy comes with a ton of baggage would be mistaken. He inherited a recruiting scandal at Miami (much the way Golden recently did), and he was cleared at NC of having anything to do with recruiting violations.

Again, please show me someone with a better resume', that USF has a realistic shot at getting. Not out there.

  5. USF runs a spread option read offense, that seems like it's been utilized for Daniels. It seems like BJ has about 10-15 runs per game, sometimes more. That's different from what FSU does with Manuel. And you really don't think FSU game planned around BJ's ineffectiveness in the passing game? FSU took away the long pass from BJ (he tried to force it into deep coverage numerous times) and gave up anything short and tackled that well. The plan was to not get beat deep and we didn't. Early in the game FSU had to respect the fact BJ could pull back the read and run. This resulted in the RB being able to get some yards when actually receiving the ball (not a result of a good USF run game rather DLine waiting to attack runner). Once FSU had the lead and BJ had to throw to stay in the game, FSU pinned its ears back and stuffed USF's run and pressured Daniels like crazy, that's why he as throwing the ball away so much at the end. USF could have moved the ball vs. FSU if BJ would have just been able to hit the 5-10 yard passes consistently, FSU was giving him that all game. But BJ couldn't like he hasn't been able to his entire career and thus USF didn't take advantage

It's sad that an opposing team's fan sees this clear as day, but many on here are still in denial about it. Daniels has no touch. He never has since he's been here. If the guy isn't running or trying to launch the ball downfield then he's useless. As much as our play calling sucks, I believe much of it has to do with the fact that our coaches just don't trust this guy. How can you be a senior QB and still not be able to consistently complete the short yardage passes?? I mean a simple screen pass is like a rubik's cube for this guy.

  6. Really am I the only one nervous about this game? Short week, after the guys emptied the tank in Nevada, against an opponent we tend to struggle against, on a night that dooms us? I'm cautious about this game. I genuinely believe our guys want it more, though.

Nope. I can't stand this game. I hate Rutgers as much as the next guy, but this game has blowout written all over it. I'm not saying Rutgers is more talented or better coached than USF. If Rutgers played another BCS team this Thurs, they'd lose like they always do. However, USF is tired right now - especially the defense. Holtz has been saying this all week. Greg tweeted the other day a scary stat where Rutgers D was on the field for 60 plays vs. our defense's 90 plays. Hopefully the O comes to play. This game has Pitt 2011 written all over it.

  7. Post why you can't stand Rutgers.

Personally, I can't stand them because they're that gnat team. They don't do anything outside of the conference, and they're one of the big three anchors in this conference (Rutgers, UCONN, and 'Cuse). Although, for some reason we always have a hard time with them. They're not a rival. They're not a highly talented team. In their 143 years of existence, they've had what....1 good year? Since the BCS has been in existence, they've beaten how many BCS teams? Off the top of my head, the best BCS foe they've even beaten is....K-state? They do absolutely nothing year in and year out. It's almost like they spend the entire offseason preparing for one team....USF. This more than anything pisses me off about Rutgers.

  8. Stats are funny things, when you break them down they sometimes tell a different story. Nevada had 208 yds in the 1st quarter, quarters 2 through 4: 347 (according to the stats on espn.) USF through 1 had 135 yds, 2 through 4: 430. After the 1st quarter, our "swiss cheese" defense clamped down quite a bit. It all depends on how you look at it. Also, instead of painting a negative picture, we could paint the we never gave up on each other, and we showed that we have what it takes to win the last minute games, something that we didn't have last year. It's all about perspective.

Even if USF only gave up 347 yards in the last three quarters, that's equal to giving up 463 yards through four quarters. So, yes even if you throw out the first quarter and back calculate the yardage allowed in the other three quarters, our defense is still swiss cheese.

At this point, to me, it looks like we have the same defense we had last year. Louisville and Cincy are going to shred us, but if our offense can play mistake free football we'll stay in the game.

Rutgers has no offense, so our D should hold them. It's just a matter of can our offense break through their D? Same will go for UConn. We are the same team as last year with better WRs.

Spot on. The defense looked exactly like it did last year. Middle of the line crumbled...LBs unable to fight off blocks....and our secondary out of position on numerous plays. Unfortunately, I disagree that we'll hold Rutger's O. I easily see them putting up 30. Greg tweeted the other day that while Rutger's defense was on the field for 60 plays in their game, our defense was on the field for 90. These guys will be gassed by the second half. I hope our offense brings 40+ points in this game....

  9. No. This game is absolutely meaningless. Who cares if we ever get ranked again if we can't compete in this **** conference. Rest the starters after the first half and worry about Rutgers. That's the game that makes or breaks this season. You have to assume Louisville loses no more than 2 games and that we probably aren't winning the game at their place. That means doing whatever it takes to beat Rutgers.

  10. The chances of you changing in mass people's liking for the Gators or Noles is slim. I think a lot of those fans have and will continue to support the program (there are several USF ticket holders, who are big fans of the other programs and I believe that it could increase if it became the thing to do)

UF and FSU don't have waiting lists for season tickets, instead they both put all tickets available into a pool and whoever donates the most money gets them. For that reason it is hard to get season tickets without spending considerable money. Instead, USF has become an alternative for many. (But check the actual attendance when either or both teams are playing, it hurts USF a lot)

That being said USF needs to win the battle for those who "don't have a team" Many of the snowbirds in our area don't follow much college football, it's just not a popular sport up their way. If they can convert those fans then you might see more of a positive attendance wise and maybe even in booster fees.

My full belief is that the current students should be hit the hardest. While they might not pay off right away, down the line they will be the backbone of booster support for this program. The big reality of college football is "the team with the most money" (and is spending it) will be the best equipped for long term success.

I don't know, in just the last two years I've seen some pretty diehard FSU and UM fans change their allegiance to USF.  May not be the norm, but that's what I've seen.  I have a hard time believing that if UF had also had a down year, some of their fans wouldn't be knocking on our fanbase door.  If FSU and UM having a down year can help us then UF having a great year can certainly hurt us.

Two years ago, UF/UM/FSU fans viewed our wins as "Oh look, USF beat a decent team.  How cute."  I don't think that's the case anymore.

  11. I realize I'm gonna get a lot of "just win baby" replies here, and that's fine, but I think it's a legitimate concern.

The fan base is growing a large amount slower than the program is. With the bowl games, and the potential of the young players we have, and the potential of the recruiting classes that are improving each and every year, this team has a legitimate chance to do some pretty special things. Problem is, no one cares.

What happens when USF wins the Big East in the next year or 2?

Yeah, it'll be monumental for the program in so many ways, but there's one problem: it'll ALL be overshadowed by the local and national media saying: "What a young and exciting program they have there in Tampa, but look out in the stands, they barely sell out HALF of Raymond James and they only brought 10,000 to the Sugar Bowl. What an embarrasment."

You can almost see it happening, and it's scary. To me anyways...

One problem if we do win the BE next year (go to a BCS bowl) is that UF just won the title game.  I'm sorry, but that hurt us.  Now the fad for Tampa fans is to be a Gator.  Question should be "how quick can we make the fad change?"  One year?

  12. I agree that when you are out there in that capacity you should be careful in how you act-- more so than the fans.

It's just that fans so often do and say things to players/coaches from the stands that are so terrible. I hear them all game long-- mostly in the end zones and where the kickers warm up. There was one guy who was yelling at Wannstedt the entire game-- cursing up a storm and screaming constantly. Now Wanny can't hear a freakin' word this guy said the whole time but there are children at the game and it's just bad form to be yelling that stuff for little kids to hear. It's a bad example and it's intruding on the parents. Yeah-- i know-- they can choose to keep their kids home if they don't like it. But did we really gain anything from the tirade? Did we psych out the players and staff? I'm no angel-- I've done it myself in the past (yelling at other team reps from the stands) and at some point I realized how foolish it was. I also don't work blue (swear/cuss) so that part kind of irks me.

I do get a chickle out of some of the creative crap the guys who harass the kickers say. They probably get it at every school (at least all the times I've been within earshot they have at various places). And believe me-- Big Shoop is no angel in those stands folks-- so this kid probably let it get to him. Well that and the entire north end zone chanting "Pittsburgh Sucks".

Don't get me wrong-- I just want this stuff to be somewhat palatable to the masses. Is that fair or at least reasonable?

What?  I could be wrong here, but your posts in this thread almost sound like you're making excuses for what this guy did.

I don't get it...You walk by our group every home game with your little smirk and never say a thing about your disgust for our "terrible" chants and harrasing of the players, but then you come on here and rip "Shoop & Co" almost every chance you get.

Here's a suggestion...It's almost a week after Halloween.  You could probably get a good deal on a My Little Pony costume...
