  1. Too bad we can't trade like the pros. We're loaded at QB!

If Leavitt can figure a way to stagger his corp of QBs the way UM did during its heyday we could be another QB university.

All UM's great QBs started for no more than two years. They either red shirted or sat a year or both.

I suspect he may have told that to Hill and Grothe.

We're looking to at least five years of great QBs right now.

  2. Competition for talent in our state is very keen. It is tough to compete with the "Big 3" but I feel if we keep taking the positive steps we've been taking, we will be one of the "Big 4". This years class looks extremely promising after a good year last year.

Remember, at least seven Bulls have played in the NFL. I don't know if any of the "Big Guys" could have said that after their program was just eight years old.

  3. Not sure what the criteria is. We beat #1 Tulane once and lost to them twice in extra innings. We sweep #7 seed UF at home. One team in the bracket has a losing record. I don't get it. We are better than at least half the teams in the tourny.

I guess a few more wins next year and we're in.

  4. Sure a winning season and a bowl bid would be great and is realistic but more than anything, I'd love to see us give UM a run for their money and maybe even sneak out with a victory.

They are not what they used to be. How good can Kyle Wright be if he couldn't beat out the very overrated Brock Berlin?

A solid performance by us and catching UM off a little and this will be better than beating Pitt at Pitt.

  5. I don't think so.

Last year we recruited fairly well (Andre Hall and some very good freshman like Payton, Verpael, etc.).

This year's class was one of the best we've had in a while.

If there is any real problem it will be what to do with a wealth of talented QB prospects.

It may not be reflected in our first years record in the Big East but we have a legit shot at going over .500 and an invitation to a bowl.

    That's not regression.

  6. Like I posted before, it's tough to draw in a big city. Particularly if you compete with the NFL. Few big cities have well attended college football programs.

I believe there is a strong fan base. Unfortunately not enough show up on Saturdays.

It took UM many years of winning before they started to get good attendance. They still only sell out a few games a year.

Jim is on the right track. We will be one of the 20 most dangerous teams sooner than later.

Win at the top level and they will come!

We'll win at least six games next season, probably seven or more.

Good start in the BCS race.

  7. Coach Leavitt, Doug Woolard and company are doing it the right way. Taking the right steps at the right time. The new fitness facility is a great addition. Tradition takes time. Improvement in all sports programs helps speed up the process. This is clearly happening.

The one issue that all big city college football teams face is establishing a large local fan base. With the exception of UCLA and USC, most other big cities (including Miami) have a tough time filling the stands for college football. UF and FSU can fill it because they're the only game in town and there isn't much else to do in those small cities. Heck, the Dolphins can't sell out.

We have to accept the fact (as does UM) that the stands won't always be packed.

That doesn't mean we won't gain national attention and have a top rated team.

Leavitt has laid the foundation for that and it will be sooner than later.

  8. Just read this on the GoBulls sight. Mc may be putting together a pretty competitive team at just the right time.

USF Basketball Signs 6-9 Power Forward

(April 28, 2005) Tampa, Fla. -- Brandon Stores, a 6-9, 220-pound power forward at Cincinnati Christian Center Academy, has signed a national letter of intent to play for the University of South Florida, USF head coach Robert McCullum announced today.

Stores averaged 19.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and 5.2 blocks in his 2004-05 season, helping Christian Center Academy to a 30-4 record and a second place finish in the National Prep School Tournament.

In addition to playing for the Pittsburgh Jots AAU Team, Stores was the MVP for the Western Pennsylvania All-Stars in a game with the Eastern USA All-Stars.

Prior to playing for Christian Center Academy, Stores attended Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio.

Georgia, New Mexico State, Providence and Temple had also recruited Stores. He joins

    Davis Sills, a 6-1 guard, Chris Howard, a 6-2 guard, Zaronn Cann, a 6-6 forward and McHugh Mattis, a 6-6 guard/forward in USF’s 2005 Recruiting Class.

  9. I'm a UF alum but my son is a freshman at USF. It was easy for me to change allegiance. USF is a great school and getting greater in all ways. USF reminds me a lot of UF when I attended. It had good sports programs that were improving. USF is ahead of where UF was in my day. UF made it to the top but needs to get rid of that 1996 National Champ license plate. They're living in the past. Simply put, I'm a Gator alum but a Bulls fan.
