This new bowl in Miami has been rumored for some time now to be closely tied in to FIU and FAU's move to 1A and membership with the Sun Belt for football. Supposedly, this new bowl would provide the Sun Belt Conference with their second bowl tie in (New Orleans Bowl is the other). FIU's AD Rick Mello and Keith Tribble, CEO of the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) and a member of the FIU Board of Directors have both supposedly been involved in the discussions. Tribble is also Chairman of the Football Bowl Association (FBA) the body in charge of certifying new bowls and recertifying the existing bowl games annually. Keep in mind to that there were earlier rumors that this bowl (as well as a possible new bowl in Atlanta) would be tied in with the new ACC during Miami and Virginia Techs arrival to the conference. I am sure that the new ACC will be a major player with all three of the proposed new bowls.
