KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl sat in the student section Monday night for the tipoff of the game between the fourth-ranked Lady Vols and No. 1 Duke.

He was shirtless and his chest was painted in orange with a "V" for Volunteers on it.

Coach Pat Summitt appeared to acknowledge him and gestured enthusiastically at Pearl.

Some of the men's players were with Pearl, spelling out "Go Vols" on their painted chests.

Duke won the game 74-70 behind 24 points from Amy Waner.

The Blue Devils started the year 20-0 for the second straight season and got victory No. 20 by handing Tennessee only its 17th loss in Thompson-Boling Arena, which opened in 1987.

Early on it looked like it could be the worst loss ever for the Lady Vols in their home arena, but Tennessee (17-2) rallied from as many as 21 points down in the first half to tie it at 48 with 10:48 remaining.

Duke then ran its lead back to nine, but Tennessee kept chipping away and made the final minutes tense for both sides especially the large and raucous orange-clad crowd.

Lindsey Harding scored on a drive with 1:37 left to put Duke ahead 70-63, but Tennessee went 2-of-4 at the foul line and Candace Parker scored to cut it to 70-67.

The Lady Vols' last chance came after Alberta Auguste hit a 3 with 6.1 seconds left to cut it to 72-70, and they immediately fouled Harding. She made both free throws to ice it.

Duke is one of only nine teams to win in Thompson-Boling and only the fifth of those to win more than once.

Harding added 21 for Duke while Wanisha Smith had 15. The Blue Devils were 14-of-15 from the foul line. Tennessee was only 8-of-17.

Parker led the Lady Vols with 22 points, but was 1-for-7 from the foul line. Alexis Hornbuckle added 19 and Sidney Spencer had 13.

  3. THe interest doesnt have to be the same, however, if it isnt,  that should be solely the fault of the student/patron who doesnt come.  USF Marketing should STILL be marketing these women just as they market the men.  The Dome setup should be the same and we should be getting some butts in the seats.  He is 100% RIGHT for being upset.  There was ZERO marketing on campus and none I am sure off of it.  This is what he is talking about, he isnt expecting to sell out the dome....he just wants the community to have some excitement generated by USF Marketing.

-We can't rely solely on the Oracle's free News stories to market our TOP 25 caliber team!

  4. Is it fair that I am not allowed to say anything because I work at a store that sells Bulls gear?  NOPE.  I haven't said a thing about the store I work at because its not about that.  This comes from a DIEHARD student who has been fighting off Gator stuff by personally going up to people wearing it on campus.  I put myself out there to defend this school everyday.  Technically, we can never call out another school because we are fans of this school and we can't look at the situation objectively because its a conflict of interest.  I work for a store, but I am a student and fan first...it's why you will never even find the store open on gameday.  Dmince, you mentioned you know the owners, but I guess I know a different set of owners... At least I didn't do the lame thing and sign on with a new "neutral" name to speak my mind.  I have said my peace and I am through with it. Agree or don't, it doesn't matter to me.  Everyone has their opinion and mine is that I am SICK of the stupid gators...I was not intentionally bashing Bulls Heaven, in fact we refer our cutomers there when we don't have something, but it is very disappointing that when you walk in the store you will find Gators items, I don't care who you are.

-BY the way, I don't make a profit off of where I work. Only an hourly cashier's pay.  While I used to post about our specials and try to help board members who had questions, I don't make any official decisions, nor do I represent the company.  I have not mentioned it once in months due to Bullievers request to keep free advertising off the boards.  Thanks.

  5. I understand what everyone is saying.  and I appreciate Mr. Fox for being the first to bring USF merchandise outide of the bookstore.  However, if you want to sell stuff like that which I have no problem with, don't do it at a BULLS STORE.  The ad in the paper says BUcs and BULLS Heaven congratulates the Gators..not Authentic Team Merchandise.  I disagree with someone who is only in it for the dime and not in it for the heart of what you proclaim to be about.  I know things that others don't and this was the final straw.  Why don't we carry Gator stuff at the bookstore?  I am sure Barnes and Noble could use that extra dollar.  ...and I strongly disagree with the idea that anyone would walk into a Bulls store to buy Gators stuff and get an inkling to follow the hometown team.  Why would they need too?  THey can get their own team stuff in our stores and are supported for doing so.  Until we take a stand against other schools on our campus, this will NEVER change.  I am not saying because we do every single thing will disappear, but I guarantee you if you walked onto a Florida campus with say a Miami shirt or another schools items, you would be made to feel like an A**.   We need support from our local businesses and until we get it, we cannot expect the support of our community.  Isn't this the same board who complained about going to Gators to watch Bulls Games.  because of the name??  Franchise or no Franchise, there are Gators signs all in that place not 1 mile from our campus.  It SUCKS!  and we keep them in business....

P.S.- A new pool hall called Bulls Club is opening close to Bull Ring on Fowler....hopefully it wont have Gator stuff on the walls....
