  1. Boy that lasted long.   ;D

    Is he gone??

Yes - going to University of Houston to be their DC.  Kind of a puzzling decision to many UCF fans (me included) from a pure footbal perspective, but that's as usual because as casual fans, we don't really know jack squat, just wish that we did.

  2. I'm not sure Smith really hurt you guys.  Your 2nd string back was very productive early on and is a very brusing player.

You might be right.  I was impressed with Peters...tough runner.  If we can find a way to beat USM next Tuesday night (on ESPN2 by the way), I will feel much better about this game today.

I have to say it's better to lose a well fought game vs. a blow out embarassment like last year.  The difference?  This year I didn't puke.

    Good luck next week.

  3. Per ESPN.....

UCF drew a crowd of 46,000, the third-highest in school history, with some help from their opponents. A big group of South Florida fans made the 85-mile trip from Tampa, at times out-shouting the home crowd.

The USF fans were definitely loud.

This is just more evidence that the game should be played every year.  I would challenge anyone who has been to the games to say otherwise.

  4. ...do about it that matters.  With Ellis for example, he was suspended by O'Leary indefinetely on November 5th which was within days of his arrest.   He was never allowed to practice or play again.  Clearly this crime deserved the punishment he got in terms of his status on the team.  Same with Harris, he was kicked off the team immediately.   Players will do things, but its the reaction by the coaches in my opinion thats important.  Leavitt clearly has a longer leash for his players when it comes to punishment for incidents like this.

Since O'Leary has taken the helm, any wrongdoings are punished harshly, and the result is you get less incidents from your players.  In addition, most if not all of the issues were from players that he did not recruit.

  5. I doubt Leavitt worries too much about where he is ranked.

It's not really a fair comparison. GOL got fat beating a bunch of cupcakes. Eventually O'Liar is going to have to win some meaningful games.

I doubt GOL worries too much about where he is ranked either.

I agree that GOL has a lot to prove, and he knows it.  You know what is worse than beating cupcakes?  Losing to them, which is exactly what was occuring before.  His leadership and coaching is exactly what has started to turn the ship around.  Grades have improved dramatically, facilities are being completed, and community interest is much higher than it has been in years.  GOL has played a role in all of that.

  6. Or what if they win six games in a 12 season schedule but that's only good enough for say 6th or 7th in C-DOA and that doesn't get him invited to a bowl (you see it's not enough to qualify they've got to be invited).  So, 6 and 6 in a mediocre conference is satisfying.  To me that's counter-inuitive of Hitt's quotes wanting to be top 10.

If he so desperately wants to be top 10 then put in performance clauses and guarantees to suggest it.  Don't put in 'fat happy' awards to allow a guy to run around and beat Nova, Rice, ECU, SMU, Tulane, and FIU and then demand his incentive bonus.  That's complacency, if the winning is really about Central Florida and not O'Liar then Hitt wouldn't be afraid to push the envelop and force O'Liar to put his money where his mouth is.  Instead the first year he does something decent Hitt gives him a long ass guaranteed salary that will cost UCF tons to buyout from if anything happens.  Like I said, UCF fans had better hope that O'Leary is the messiah because if not he could turnout to be the anti-christ and make the snafu made with Coach K seem like a mere hiccup.

I don't get the 6 win incentive.  But I think that GOL and staff are good enough coaches to make UCF a top team in CUSA year in and year out.  He is a nationally recognized coach and this contract eliminates any school from using the "O'Leary won't be in a year" recruiting tactic away from opposing schools.  This is all predicated on him generating winning seasons, year in and  year out.

All school's have coaching questions.  I'm sure there are many USF fans who don't understand why Leavitt hasn't made a move on the offensive side of the ball with respect to coaching with what has happened over the past few years.

  7. You missed the point, as usual, MTK. How many other National Coaches of the Year need an incentive clause just for going .500 or better? That's pathetic ....

DP, why move the other one and not this one? I don't mind, though ..... gives me a chance to school MTK some more without having to duck flying feces.

It is a rediculous clause.  No way to sugar coat that.

  8. They won't be able to afford to buy him out, what with the doubled cost of their erector set.  I'll take great pleasure in watching UCF athletics drown under the immense weight of this poor decision in, oh, about 4 years... once the novelty of the new stadium has worn off, the bills come due, and reality sets in.  This isn't a Disney made-for-TV movie.

This sounds like your Christmas wish list.

What makes you think the novelty of a new stadium will wear off?  That doesn't even make sense from your "I Hate UCF" view point.

It's all going to go come down to product - more wins and less losses.  GOL and company are good enough to compete for the CUSA championship year in and year out and get to a bowl game as evidenced by visible improvements in recruiting and facilities.

  9. There are clearly many similarities between KSU and USF...and I don't think that it is a coincidence that Leavitt is using a similar scheduling model as to what KSU started back in the day when they started to rise.

A key difference between USF and KSU is that KSU had an on campus stadium, and in order to help increase profitability to pay for that stadium, they were scheduling 7 home games per year, and I think 1 year they played 8 home games.  I think I remember reading that they simply would not play OOC road games, period, and because of that, there only road games every year were the conference games.

  10. “We can no longer take non-qualifiers in our league and Brandon Myles is a perfect example of a non-qualifier that is going to graduate,†Rodriguez said. “He is going to be a great representative of West Virginia University and the Big East Conference but because of the new rule we can’t get anymore Brandon Myles’ and that’s a shame.†

What Rodriguez is referring to is a school vote by Big East member institutions last fall to no longer accept academic non-qualifiers. That means a prospective football player with an adequate grade point average that fails to earn a qualifying score on either his ACT or SAT will not be permitted to enroll at a Big East school.

I was not aware of this.

This is typical of most of the major conferences I believe.  How would this rule have effected USF's previous recruiting classes?
