  1. Pelphrey might be holding his breath in the slim chance that Donovan runs to UK. He might be a top candidate for the UF job.

Pelphrey is going to be a great coach, I just wish it was here.

Donovan won the NC last year and is in the Final Four again this year. Could end up repeating. Why in the hell would he want to take a step back to go to UK? Normally, UK would be a step-up. But, not presently.

  2. Not taking anything personally.

Just seems to me he's the logical choice IF he's at all interested.

    1. USF larger school.

    2. Big East conference.

    3. He's from Florida.

But, the whole thing about it is I don't know the money situation. Throw out $200,000 more than he's making at VCU, promise some other incentives if he turns things around and I'm thinking he's USF's new coach. But, not sure if that can happen? Maybe someone else does, or it's been talked about already?

However, if it could be done and USF starts making it to the NCAA fairly consistently, $200,000 is a drop in the bucket compared to the return of a winning program.

  3. By now, most people know that VCU beat Duke yesterday. While watching the game, I was TOTALLY impressed with the poise and composure of their head coach. I think someone else may have already thrown out his name for debate, but I vote for this man to head USF's surge into the future.

    Anthony Grant

Grant, a native of Miami, Florida, recently finished his 10th year at the University of Florida and his 12th year overall as a top assistant under veteran coach Billy Donovan, more than a decade of work culminating in the Gator’s first national title in basketball.

  4. I'm not trying to turn this into a sarcasm feast. The USF basketball program has been crappy for probably longer than many of you have been alive. They've made it to 2 NCAA tournaments since they became a team in 1971. Both times losing in the first round.

And, with the above statements, I've got all kinds of questions that I'd like people to help answer:

    1. Who is the person/group responsible for the new hire?

    2. What is being said that  the new coach should do to make USF competitive in the Big East?

    3. Why should the fans believe a turnaround will happen simply because a new coach is hired?

    4. What type of support is the new coach going to get? (New practice facility, etc.)

Sorry in advance for all the questions, but living so far away it's just too hard to get the real story. I'm sure some of you have _or as least think you have - some of those answers and I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks.

  5. I like a couple of the names that have been thrown out..Dougherty and Marshall. I think they are both good coaches.

But, and this is a biggie, here's the one I'd like to see:

Bob Huggins. Yep, THAT guy. And, B4 you chew my head off like I'm sure many of you will, here's why:

    1. He's a GREAT coach. Plan & simple. Regardless of his past he knows how to win.

    2. He's got something to prove. Guessing there is a BIG chip on his shoulder and he wouldn't like

anything better than to stick it to some teams in the Big East.

    3. He's a name and that name would start an INSTANT stir in recruiting, media exposure, and ticket

       sales.

    4. He's in a football conference coaching a team that isn't going anywhere. Could probably get him out

of there without giving up the farm.

    5. He knows he made mistakes and they most likely won't happen again.

    6. He'd turn this thing around ONCE & FOR ALL.

  6. We need someone to make us forget 11 years of average to poor bball...

11 years? USF has fielded crappy basketball teams for decades. Making it to the NCAA tournament 2 times...losing both times in the first round...since it's start in 1971 for a school that has become as large as USF is pathetic...AT BEST.

This team needs some type of "identity" if it EVER wants to turn things around and that is going to take two things:

    1. Cash.

    2. A well-known coach that knows how to win.

  7. No, actually I came on here on purpose right after the FB win over West Virgina to say how good it was for the program, but that's another story.

The basketball team has just been pathetic for years and years. The ONE time they've made it in what the last 30 years they lost in the first round? Correct?

Just sad to NOT see them in what is arguably one of the greatest of all sports tournaments.

  8. See?  Look what you can do when you just start off with a modest stadium of your own.  That's exactly what we need to do.  45,000 or so seats on-campus with an expandable plan to 65,000, then 85,000.

Good point about starting out small and growing. I'm sure they had that in their plans from the start. However, their stadium is REALLY nice. Still can't quite figure out how selling the worst pizza out there gets you rich enough to build and name a stadium?

I would not expect USF to even consider building a stadium until the lower bowl is sold out for an entire year - that would mean a season of averaging more than 41,000 tickets sold.  I would also add that at least 25,000 or more of those will probably need to be season tickets - and those season tickets might need to be held by more than 10,000 season ticket holders. (Currently USF has less than 4,000 season ticket holders buying around 16,000 season tickets and averages around 30,000 tickets sold).

    Or, until jfcohio wins Megabucks...
