  1. I don't know too much about this, but it seems to me that Florida should be one of the top states for baseball recruiting.  Some kids play baseball year round (Fall ball, Spring ball, AAU and so on).  Even 8 year old kids are playing all year.

    So how does Florida rank?

Seems to me that if you get even the 3rd tier (After UM, FSU, UF) recruits, you should be doing pretty well.

So does it, as Knights04 mentioned, come down to player development?

  2. The Gold?

Now that's really poor.  Reaper, you're right, they should have always stayed with Warriors.

RH, you're right too.  These special interest groups really need to go away.  Seems to me that using a "Native American" themed name (Warriors, Seminoles, Braves...) is meant to honor the strength, spirit and toughness of that particular group.  Any group who would protest this use should be recognized for what they are, whiners.

As Bulliever mentioned, the "Green...Gold" cheer could be interesting at a Bball game next year.  Will Marquette's fans participate with us?

  3. I would think that this is the year for the talent we keep talking about to blossom.

We really should be looking at at least 6-7 wins.  If the defense is much improved and the QB position a bit more consistent.

There is no reason this team shouldn't be very competitive at Penn State.  A good game there, maybe even an upset, and the tone should be set for a successful season.

A 3-2 record at home is achieveable.

On the road we should win at least 2 out of Syracuse, Rutgers and Connecticut.

Do that and you have 5 or 6 wins.

The Louisville, Miami, Pitt and West Virginia stretch will be key to our success.  If we go 0-4, we'll probably be 3-4 or 2-5 and will need to win out to have a decent season.  Win one or more of those 4 and we'll be in great shape.

  4. Good for Carlton Hill if this situation is cleared up.  Now let's hope Carlton learns something from this experience and it is the last time.

``I fully expect Carlton to re-enroll and be eligible for all phases and manners to play Bulls football,'' said Collins

I assume Mr. Collins realize that Carlton Hill's life will have more than football in it .  If so, he should be more precise in choosing his words.

How about  graduating HS and then enrolling as a student at USF?  Take care of that and keep the athletics in perspective.

  5. Those are great comments from both Welsh and Calhoun.  It's funny, if you listen to the media and fans here in Georgia, you would believe the ACC is the only conference worth anything.

While I will admit the ACC is a good conference, it's no Big East this year and certainly won't be next year.

Man it is gonna be brutal next season!

  6. I sure hope some of the younger guys feel the same as Swift and Leather.  I'm not sure they do.

I mean Swift is sick, Leather and Bryant are recovering from the flu, and we get 6 points from the reserves?!

Oh and Swift, Leather and Bryant play 36, 32 and 32 minutes?  I know we're not deep, but it seems someone would be ready to make a contribution in the 23rd game of the year.

Local folks, am I missing something?

  7. No doubt this team is better than last year's.  Up here in purgatory... ahh  north Georgia...  we have only seen the UC game so I defer to others for the specifics.

Also, almost every team in any sport has at least one really bad game per season (that one game where you're not even as good as your usual mediocre selves).  St. Louis may have been ours.

So as frustrating as it is, the darkside really should lighten up on CRM a bit.

  8. 79Bull,

I unfortunately live up here in the midst of the UGA fans.  I can tell you that what you experienced, I see all the time.

They are some of the most arrogant fans I have ever seen.  And it extends to all aspects of their lives.   If you're not from around here (or "heah" as they make it sound), it's clear you are tolerated, not welcomed.

  9. Early in the season, I thought Hobbie was doing a poor job of adapting the offense to the talent we had.  After the Southern Miss game, I thought he dida good job changing the offense.

By the late part of the season, we only had about 3 or 4 plays a game that were really questionable.  So I feel like he's earned another year.

Now, Rod Smith is listed as the QB coach and Pass Game Coordinator.  Frankly our QB development has not been good.  Our passing game is really bad.  A good portion of our pass game consists of 3-4 receivers running either stop routes, or going deep.  We rarely, for example,  hit receivers in stride crossing the field.

I don't know for sure, but would think our yards after catch is pretty low.  You can say that's the QB, the receivers or whatever.  Either way it comes back to coach Smith.  I would like to see us with a new QB coach next year.

  10. Overall, student attendance was better this year than prior years (except of course Memphis and Pitt).

Wooly, you raise an interesting issue.  Of our 16k season ticket base, it seems that many of those don't even show up.  Is this because corporations own many of the tickets?  Or is our fan base that apathetic and people just don't show up?

And of course, if you win they will come.

  11. Bulldad, I agree with you on this one.   Sit the malcontents on the bench!  I don't care who they are or what role they play on the team.  If the poor attitude persists, the coaching staff should strongly encourage them to leave!

The showboating (almost always unwarranted) and lack of leadership on this team this season was inexcusable.  How many times did we see someone make a tackle and then start trash talking when the defense was getting blown out and we were behind in the game (often by double digits)?

It was ridiculous and must be addressed now.

  12. The players have given a good effort all season.  There have been a few moments when the team seemed to lack fire, but they never gave up in any game.

That being said, we fans need to not give up either.  The students need to be there (finals are not an excuse, hasn't the final exam schedule been known all semester?) and we season ticket holders need to be there.

  13. Yeah I read about the planned reverse this morning while we were driving home from Tampa.  I had the same reaction.  I do not know how they thought that would have worked.

Then we run that piece of trash pitch play.  Almost everyone in our section was on their feet and furious as soon as we saw the play develop.  What a stupid call.

Why not run a play with Julmiste rolling right?  At least that would give a run/pass threat for the Defense to think about.

  14. Yes Julmiste had a bad game.  But let's be clear on where the let down was this week.

Our defense was terrible!  No pressure on Guidugli at all.  And because he had all day to throw, our secondary simply could not cover the receivers for that long.

Also, no one seemed to be covering UC's tight ends.  They were wide open all day.  At least once for a TD.

Then Jenkins gets flagged for two pass interference penalties, both of which were horrible calls.  That led to another TD.

We gave up almost 600 yards!  You won't win many that way (unless you're Louisville v Memphis).
