I'm sorry, but all the coaching in the world can't fix a QB missing a wide-open receiver by 2 to 3 yards.

if  me and apis are in agreement!  well does anything else need to be said

I don't see him missing that many open receivers underneath, because his eyes stay fixated down field on one target. He can make the underneath guys when he looks there first.

  2. I think Mike White's problems couldn't be any more obvious to anyone who watches these games: can't read a defense, no pocket presence, bad situational awareness, stares at one receiver. Most of his problems should be fixed with experience and coaching, I'm very interested to see the improvement we see over the off-season from him. I really do think he has the ability to get it done, but the coaches have to help reach full potential this off-season. He has the arm and toughness, if he can't get it done next year the coaches are just as much to blame as him in my opinion.

even if we win out, and win our bowl game, this cannot be phrased as a "successful season" since we have seen terrible coaching.

it could be considered an improved season, perhaps, but success is already out of reach for this season

hopefully next year, we will run like a well-oiled machine, this year we're still a rusty clunker

So more than tripling your wins from last season, first winning record in 4 years, winning 5 conference games for the first time in our history wouldn't be a successful season only because of "terrible coaching". That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard .... Are you sure you're not channeling one of our other posters??

You could use the criteria that it wasn't successful because, by definition, successful is accomplishing an aim or a purpose and that aim or purpose every year should be to win the conference and it would be hard to argue.

success isn't success until it "feels" like success, and this season does not feel like success

    perceptions = reality

If we win out this is no doubt a successful season. That would carry a lot of momentum into next year for sure.

not if we win the next three the same way we won the last 4...

    i'm not feeling it.

How would you like for us to win to make you feel "it"?

I'm tired of reading article/ comments of people saying the Big 12 would be better off taking UCF, we are 4-1 in the five meetings and honestly we were very close in one of our worst years in history to still beating them on the road. They may be better at this very moment, but that won't stay for long. USF will be back to competing with every team in the state of Florida very soon. Not to mention UCF is yet to beat Florida, FSU, or Miami, wish people would know their history instead of just last year.

Aside from head-to-head record, we dont even sniff UCF's jock in terms of football program success
    http://www.winsipedia.com/ucf/vs/south-florida

Actually we do. what makes them so much better exactly?

Aside from conference titles, ten-win seasons, bcs appearances, i guess not that much.

    Wins since 2010:

    UCF 43

    USF 21

    Conference Championships:

    UCF 3

    USF 0

    10+ win seasons:

    UCF 4

    USF 0

    BCS Bowl wins:

    UCF  1

    USF  0

Seasons finished ranked in Top 25:

    UCF 2(1 being a Top 10 ranking)

    USF 0

    Team APR (academic progress rating):

    UCF 994

    USF 973

    Players in the NFL:

    UCF 16

    USF 13

Coaches over the last 5 years:

    UCF 1

    USF 3

    UCF: On Campus Stadium

I was more talking about FBS era for both teams. Way to take wins since USF has been down and you won C-USA twice. Not impressive at all. We still have the head to head wins, which wins talk for themselves.  We have more first round picks  then, more weeks spent in the ap top 25, a better bowl record, and you have not beaten a P-5 team in Florida. I have saved my favorite statistic other then head to head wins, is this one

    Wins vs Power 5

    USF 28

    UCF 8

Nothing cool about OCS if no body comes.

This isn't valid either. ucif has been near capacity in all of their home games against junk opponents.

Didn't have to go far back to see that's not valid:

    10/18/14  Tulane 35,015

    8/29/13    Akron   35,115

And that's announced attendance, which doesn't reflect capacity ...

BullWinkle, 10,000 seats empty is a lot of empty seats. And if USF goes 12-1 you can bet there will more then 45,000 people there every week.

That might be a new record for TBP. Only took one post for someone to piss all over something positive. Congrats puc!

Thanks but I'm pretty sure it's only a tie for the record. I can't be the only one that thinks no one at Alabama or FSU is staying up at nite worrying about graduation rates. Even UNC which is a flagship for academia was making up fake courses for their athletes, the game is measured by who has the most points at the end of the game and how many times you do that it comparison to other teams. Graduation rates really aren't a factor in that in less you are grasping at straws for reasons to celebrate. CJL had APR's that embarrassed some but no one talked about those around the water cooler, yet everyone knows we are at the bottom of the football food chain and they don't even laugh at us any more they look down on us with pity.

you are correct that ON FIELD performance is important, but after those students leave the field and many will not make it to the NEXT LEVEL, you want those former athletes to represent both the program and the school in a positive way.

Nothing more stereotypical than the "dumb jock" who only came ot school to play ball and didnt take advantage of getting a degree.

    it matters....

Exactly, also a recruiting point. The player may not care, but the players parents might. Recruiting parents is a great way to get recruits.

  8. Schools with higher football APRs that are better in football than we are:

    Wisconsin

    Boise State

    Stanford

    Georgia Tech

    Clemson

    Boston College

    USCe

    Nebraska

    Rutgers

    Missouri

    Cal

    UCF

    VaTech

    Air Force

    Michigan

    Alabama

    Mississippi State

    Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt is not better the us, although that could make for the most miserable football game to ever watch, we are better.

The commenting section of any Texassite has settled into a specific routine that repeats every week; the actual game is irrelevant to that routine. (Today's example comes from Burnt Orange Nation, but every other Texas site is the same in this regard.) There are two roles in this play. The first is Texas Fan Who Thinks Charlie Strong Needs More Time. The second role is this person.

Our fan base has completely accepted mediocrity and failure. We are on a one way train to becoming Michigan with that type of acceptance...this coaching staff needs to be held accountable, especially the offensive coaches. Texas should NEVER be this inept offensively. EVER.

NEWSFLASH: 3-5 is never acceptable at Texas. EVER.

The Longhorns could get shut out by the Justice League and a Texas fan would still proclaim it unacceptable. MACK BROWN NEVER LOST TO WONDER WOMAN GODDAMMIT.

Not sure i totally get what your saying?

The context of what he's saying would be more apparent if you've been posting and reading on the Bullspen for a really long time. The same debate he's referencing on the Longhorn's site has been going on here for ages, even going back to Leavitt's tenure as head coach.

Oh okay. Haven't been a member here for long at all, but that's the same argument Tennessee has had for the pas 5 years, so definitely have some empathy.

One ten win season and one BCS appearance means we can't smell their jock strap?

    :roflmao:

Let's try a few of these categories, just for starters:

    Highest overall winning percentage

    Wins over Top 25 teams

    Wins over Top 10 teams

    Wins over BCS programs...

Exactly, they had one great year, I give them credit for that, but people are talking like they're the Boise State of the American and thats just not the case. Besides they won 2 of their conference titles in conference USA, not really impressive in my opinion.
