The question of whether or not it's a rivalry pretty much died the moment we became conference mates, d-bag.

They're apparently too stupid to grasp that ...

    Well they are ucf fans.

Blanket statements always make me mad, they also make you look stupid.

You mean blanket statements like this:

YUP, no rivalry here ...well at least not on Bulls part...

I would hope you're better than this and simply upset at the given situation.  That said, I was in no way protecting certain UCF posters.  I was simply saying an extremely small sample size is not typically representative of a population (no matter how many "bad" ucfers you claim to know, it is a very small sample size relative to the population).  It tends to invalidate results.  It would be similar to me judging all USF fans based on ShadowBulls relative lack of intelligence.  Not fair to you guys, right?

My point was that it was a blanket statement from a UCFer that started this. Blanket statements are usually part of stuff like this ... Are you new to message boards?

New to the juvenile nature of this rivalry I guess.  Carry on.

It's a **** shame I turned my UCF education into a fully funded research opportunity at a top doctoral program in the country then.  Blanket statements always make me mad, they also make you look stupid.

Hope for a good game next year.  Enjoy the offseason.

  4. Looks like we have a little more clout than I thought we did ... the Kanigits dropped after each of their previous 2 wins but actually jumped 3 spots, to 16, after beating us....... Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of that probably has to do with who lost ahead of them rather than our awesomeness.

Complete BCS standings isn't out yet that I could find but can't see Cincy jumping very much from 28 after a bye this week .... Fresno dropped from 16 to 23 with their loss so it's not inconceivable that UCF could have the same sort of drop but just don't know if a win over the Cards would push Cincy high enough. Till looking for them in the BCS.

What UCF does have to hope for is that NIU beats BGSU and if they do win, to not jump NIU in the poll, unless NIU can get to #12 ... and then hope the Sugar finds them more attractive than the Huskies. I know if it was us going, the Sugar would be a whole better option than the Fiesta.

I think pollsters realize that anything can happen in a rivalry game no matter the respective teams records and standings.  Despite what some posters on each side like to think, this is a rivalry through and through.  I look forward to continuing it in the future....it's always more fun when you have someone you can really "hate" and argue fruitlessly back and forth with for ages, upon ages, upon ages.....  :clubfight:

    UCF:

-Barely beat an unranked and scandal stricken/rebuilding Penn State.

-Put up a decent game against a South Carolina team who was missing three key starters including their QB.

-Barely beat a down trending and highly overranked UL.

-Squeaked by Houston by five points.

-Got lucky and kicked a FG to beat Temple with seconds on the clock. Giving up 36 points along the way might I add,

-Almost lost to a horrible USF team and sealed the deal with a horrible late USF throw in the red zone. If Taggart wasn't an idiot he would have ran the ball and sent it into OT!

And has to play a decent SMU team who could very easily beat them.

To simply put it, UCF is overranked and overrated. Yes, they won those games. Yes, they beat us. Yes, the won the conference. But, they are a far cry from the almighty power house their delusional fan base makes them out to be. Unless they pull out another miracle and another team defeats themselves, they will get rocked in their bowl game.

    :offtopic:

To the OP:  Maybe I'm soft, but I can't wait till this game is played with big implications for both sides!  Good luck to you as well and thank you!

    In response to "great season."

Sorry, Knights, there is no rivalry

Maybe UCF should start a rivalry with Edward Waters College.

    Or Webber International.

Or some other in-state team more in its league -- like, say, Edgewater High School.

Or, better yet, if the Knights drop down to Division I-AA right now maybe they can compete with Appalachian State in about five years.

What exactly did the final score end up being, anyway? I quit paying attention when South Florida's third-team quarterback threw a touchdown pass. Oh, here it is on the postgame notes -- USF Bulls 64, UCF Gnats 12.

Let all of us who have pressured, prodded and pushed for USF to continue this annual series with UCF please cease and desist. And let everybody associated with UCF just be thankful that there is but one game left with USF.

This is, after all, getting embarrassing.

In fact, maybe the Knights should just forfeit next year's game and end this series now.

    Before they get somebody hurt.

Tampa Tribune sportswriter Martin Fennelly put it best in his pregame column Saturday when he referred to UCF as "The University of Central Bug on the Windshield."

And, so, that resounding splat you heard Saturday afternoon was insect intestines plastered on the grill of USF's runaway 18-wheeler. The last time USF scored more than 50 points in a game was four years ago against Charleston Southern. Now they've done it again -- against Orlando Eastern.

Let it be noted that the only three programs USF has ever beaten worse are Kentucky Wesleyan, Cumberland and Austin Peay. Congratulations, UCF, you put up more of a fight than Peay did.

USF was the oncoming freight train Saturday; UCF was the '83 Yugo conked out in the middle of the railroad tracks. USF was the wooden club; UCF was the skull of the baby seal. USF had 543 yards of total offense; UCF 145.

Sign held up by USF fan Saturday: "What does I-4 and UCF's offense have in common? It takes them both three hours to go 100 yards."

The War on I-4? Puh-leeze. This was the Bore on I-4. The Snore on I-4. The Run-Up-the-Score on I-4.

By the way, did I really pick UCF to win? Memo to Human Resources: You're welcome to take my urine sample first thing Monday morning, but I'm telling you the Walgreens pharmacist told me it was flaxseed oil.

This is what happens when you get sucked into the UCF delusion; when you actually start believing the Knights are on the same level as USF. In reality, what we saw Saturday is what typically happens when a BCS power plays a non-BCS patsy.

Let us not take anything away from USF. The Bulls are a good team, maybe even a great one. They are national championship contenders for a reason. Grothe should be a Heisman candidate. Defensive end George Selvie is virtually unblockable. And Jim Leavitt should be Florida State's next coach -- and the Seminoles might want to consider hiring him now.

But this isn't about how good USF is; it's about how bad UCF is. South Florida is the No. 5 team in the nation. UCF, right now, doesn't even look like No. 5 team in Conference USA. The sad fact is that Division I-AA Elon was more competitive against USF earlier in the season. And so was Florida Atlantic last week.

After such an embarrassing loss in such an important game, you have to start questioning the direction of the UCF program under Coach George O'Leary. Not only is he now 0-3 against USF, but his team yielded more points Saturday than any team in UCF's Division I-A history. Here we are in Year 4 of the O'Leary era and -- at least right now -- his team looks no better than it did in Year 1. And, yes, the Knights were 0-11 in Year 1.

O'Leary is supposed to be a defensive genius, but his team has given up 116 points in the last two games. O'Leary is supposed to teach sound, fundamental football, but his team has committed 18 turnovers in six games, eight in the past two weeks.

UCF President John Hitt was obviously disappointed in the loss Saturday, but said he is still behind O'Leary.

"George is my kind of coach," Hitt said. "He's going to build us a great program."

He had better get started ASAP because the clock is ticking.

Just a few short weeks ago, the biggest controversy Hitt faced was a lack of water fountains at UCF's new stadium.

Now the program will likely face a much more daunting, debilitating problem:

    A lack of fans.

    That's cute.

And that was your hometown guy writing that drivel. Just sayin

And yes I know he's a hater, but it was still allowed to be published.

The slantinel nickname is well deserved, unfortunately.

  9. UCF invasion shows how significant USF is as an opponent is to them, despite what they say.

I think a half dozen of us (at least) signed up in response to ShadowBull making consistently inane, nonsensical postings.  That said, I do agree with you, outside of maybe the freshman/sophomores who are relatively new the majority of us UCF fans care a great deal.

I'd add that I think many UCF fans talk that way because there IS some fear that we will manage to lose this game.  I disagree with the other UCF fan that says the BCS implications will supersede the rivalry nature of the game.  I grew up an Iowa Hawkeye fan and in the past decade the Hawkeyes have lost far too many times to a vastly inferior Iowa State team.  In 2004 (iirc) it would end up being their only loss, locking them out of a chance at the national title and relegating them to a #4 national ranking entering their bowl.

There is always a chance for crazy things to happen in games like this and while I am confident in UCF, I still have my worries and I am unwilling to proclaim a massive beat down (however much I hope it occurs!) as a sure thing.

My first instinct is to go with some snarky remark about your academic status, because clearly you lack reading comprehension, but I will refrain.

So instead you make a snarky remark about not making a comment about academic status?

I don't deny that the remark was snarky, that was the the point.  However, instead of insulting his academic status, I more indirectly implied that perhaps he should read more carefully before responding.  :P

  11.

I have my BS/MS from UCF and I am attending FSU for my PhD.  I've been to four FSU games this year including UM.  Constant domination is boring!  Bring on the hair pulling last second wins to terrible teams!

Seriously though, FSUs competition this year has been terrible, their offense isn't much different than UCFs.  They just have the horses (recruits) from being FSU to blow everyone out.... and insane depth to plug and play if they do have injuries.  I'm not saying UCF is on their level, but the styles are similar.

Yeah, Clemson is clearly a worse team than Memphis.  And Miami, they are horrible.  FSU squeaked by both of them, clearly UCF and FSU are very similar.

By the way, I have a bridge for sale that you might be interested in.

I never said either of those things, I indicated that UCF was not on FSUs level, I simply said their *STYLES* of offense are similar with the main difference being the caliber of athletes present at FSU.  That said, Miami is horrible and we all knew that game would be a blow out....so did Vegas unless you missed the 21+ point line that FSU handily covered.  On the other hand, Clemson took themselves out of the game early and could not recover, none of us expected the game to go that way.  FSUs only real test this season will come in the title game assuming we make it there, that is how far above their mediocre competition they are.  It is hard to take much from a 56 - 3 beat down of Syracuse other than the fact that they don't belong on the same field.

  12. I seem to recall Saban calling out the students for leaving during a blowout this season.

Anyway I was being somewhat facetious.  Constant blowouts aren't exciting, but I would obviously rather UCF not put up those stinker games against teams we should handle.
