  1. Magee isn't being considered.

Would love to know how you know that but if it's true very disappointing.

    Law,

Doesn't someone you know able to contact him?

We have called the top guys and have left messages no response back yet but I hope they are listening. We have the big money former player alums calling and pushing hopefully the right buttons.

  2. I played for coach C and like the man but I have never brought his name up because I don't think he is the right fit for the job. He can't make an impact that a Taggert or Magee can in recruiting, player relations, alumni relation, scheme and WINNING!!!!! I will go out and say this Magee or Taggert could lock up AW on the first day of the job!!!!

  3. id actually be disappointed if one of his criteria for hiring a new coach was former player opinion

i see on twitter other former players calling for Canales

If Calvin Magee gets hired it will probably be because Doug thinks hes the right guy.

I would agree with this. We don't need our opinions to way heavily on this. If Magee can do it then I'm all for it, but I don't want him just because some former players like him. I think a lot of Bucs players liked Raheem Morris and that worked out well. Coaching is not a popularity contest. I'm biased against him not even because of him, but because he's got the stink of RichRod on him. But that doesn't mean he won't be entirely different. If he can give us a great offense while also giving us a great D and locking down recruits then sign me up. The prospect of someone caring as little about D as RichRod seems to does scare me, however, and the discipline issues worry me - but that's all related to Rod.

I don't agree with your opinion but it is your opinion. I think anyone that is passionate about something or someone should let their voice be heard. I am simply saying Magee because I have researched the landscape and believe he is the best man for the job for multiple reasons. I also like Taggert never met the guy but I think he would do a good job because of his ties to the area. As a leader you take every voice into consideration then you make your decision of all the data and we are part of that data. I just want this University to be the best it can be. Bottom Line

  4. I hope so too. All we want as players is for him to get a serious look and not a fly over. GA I don't know if you read this board but if you do can you please share that.

GA reads the boards on occasion. Introduce yourself as a former player and throw the question on his blog or twitter feed. I'm almost positive he'll respond.

    OK will do

  5. Not sure if you guys saw this...Sounds encouraging, but also might be bad. Who do you think we are telling no?

    Greg Aumanâ€@gregauman

Some curious wrinkles in this USF coaching search. Working on new names, and impressed by some conceding they can't get in on interviews.

My worry is that Woolard is doing the search basically himself (with his staff). I saw this mentioned elsewhere, but realistically that likely means he either has "his guy" already in mind, or a very very short list. That could be good or bad. Will be interesting to see what Greg has to say. I hope that atleast give people like Magee a chance to interview.

  6. I have contacted a ton of former players. We are all emailing DW pushing for Calvin Magee. We care about this program just as much as the fans, we want to hire the right guy to rebuild what is broken and to build it back to something that was greatER than what once was. We are trying to have our voice heard, will he listen only time will tell.

  7. Petrino

    Davis

    Magee

    Zook

    McCarney

I have a feeling Magee will get the job and after 38 commits, de-commits, re-commits, AW will wind up with USF and become USF's all-time offensive stat leader by the end of his junior year.

We need to lock up Magee so he can go lock up AW. I'll go watch that duo every week and in between

  8. I am a former player that still lives in the community and I have never posted on the site but have always checked it out. I wanted to let everyone know that the former players are behind Coach Magee. Coach Magee was a great mentor for us as players and taught us to win in every aspect of our lives. If you bring back Magee you bring back someone that knows and understands the tradition/past of our program. You bring back a guy that knows the community because of his time with time with the Bucs and USF. He will be loved in the community and he will love the community back. He will get the people back in the stands at RayJay. He will have great relationships with the HS coaches in the state and will put a net over the state of florida in recruiting. He can talk to a HS recruit and turn around and talk to a CEO with the same passion and energy. Coach has been on some great staffs and been in some important games. He has been offered jobs and has turned them down always citing that USF is his dream job. This is his dream job not a stepping stone like it will be for other candidates. This is what we need right now for the program. I know many of you will say this is not a name that will make a splash but he is because at the end of the day he is a winner and WINNING is what makes a splash. I have talked to many of the guys over the last 24 hours and we all agree Calvin Magee is the gel that holds this program together. Yea I'm passionate about Coach Magee but I'm even more passionate about the success of the USF football program and thats why we feel he is the best choice. PLEASE HELP US MAKE USF FOOTBALL A NAME TO BE RECKONED WITH AGAIN IN THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL LANDSCAPE.

That's a pretty convincing argument. I can't help but feel like that's an endorsement I would listen to. Throwing those names out there like you did on the thread - with the collective experience there, it's hard to argue against. Magee wouldn't be the "splash" name that might bring the immediate "homerun hire" label - but he could very well be one of the only true "homerun hires" we have out there. Loyalty, connection with our former players, intimate knowledge of the program and the state, and enough time outside the system at some winning programs to have seen some things he could bring back to implement here... you might just have sold me on him law87. Can we count on you guys to make your voices heard to Doug? There are those of us on here who could be of significant help, though I wouldn't imagine you'd need it.

We would do whatever we need to reach out to doug. But just like on the field we need the fans help to win. I believe that he is truely the only one that can really gel everything back together. I do believe that Taggert would be the next guy that could mend this. With your comments I know you understand where we are coming from. I know that he would bring back Frey and he would bring other great coaches he met along the way. He could jump on the road and sure up our recruiting class with ease, what a great recruiter for this state HS coaches will love him!!!!

  9. OK... I'm sold.

I like it, a guy that will bleed green and gold. A guy that has a passion for USF football. A guy who knows offense as well as anyone in the country (the way I believe that CJL was on defense).

If he truly can recruit, build a solid staff, and make some noise fund raising, I'm all in.

What possible reason could DW have for not having him on the short list? Not being sarcastic, really, what are his weaknesses. Law, you know him, I know you are a bit biased, but, if he were hired tomorrow, what would be your concerns, what part of the transition to HC do you think he may struggle with?

I am a little biased but I just want the best for our program. I want the days back where I thought that rayjay was the only thing happening in the world at that moment. remembering the noise in the stadium was unbelievable and it couldn't get any better than that moment. I dont see any weakness with Calvin other than the fact that he doesn't have head coaching exp. but he could have got a sunbelt or cusa job long time ago but passed to wait for this job.... his dream job. He will bring an intensity that has not been seen on those practice field for a long time. But Muschamp had zero head coaching exp too but it worked out for those guys. just saying. I'm not that biased I thing my next guy I would want is Willie T
