  1. No offense to any fans of these 6 prospective new members, but adding these 6 teams adds little of substance to the conference.  Since college football drives athletics I do not understand why the AAC isn't pursuing the best 4-6 available football programs.

This new conference is garbage.  I just emailed my ticket guy and said I won't be renewing next season, and that I would reconsider in the future if "circumstances change".    I may go to a single game here and there, but my days as a season ticket holder end on November 12th.

I am tempted to the same.  Over the past 10-14 years we have seen our visiting teams go from WV/L'Ville/Syracuse/Pitt/Rutgers to now (potentially) FAU/Charlotte/North Texas/Rice/Tulsa.  For anyone who was around in Big East days, the tickets no longer hold the value they once did.  Casual fans don't want to see these teams. I may get some tickets for next year, but I will definitely be reducing the number I buy.

Still in denial. There's no way those 6 schools are the best fits for the conference.  None.  The rest of college football is playing chess while the AAC is playing checkers.  The #1 priority for Big 12 expansion is performance on the field yet the AAC is looking at Rice and FAU because...they'll bring the Houston and Miami markets???  Of course not.  I have a hard time believing Michael Kelly is playing any role in the expansion, hence I am still in denial.

Since we were invited to the Big East, we've watched eight conference-mates move ahead of us: Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers, West Virginia, Louisville, Cincinnati, UCF, Houston. We are the only remaining member from 2005 and we're just spinning our wheels over and over and over again. I'm disgusted that the phrase 'American Athletic Conference peers' is being used at this point. The '05 BEast teams should be our peers, not whoever's getting dredged up from CUSA or the Sun Belt to cobble the conference back together. WE SHOULD HAVE NO PEERS IN THIS CONFERENCE!

Besides us, there are only two teams that used to be in a power conference and aren't anymore: UConn and Temple. UConn won a conference title and played in a NY6 game. We didn't. Temple got booted from the BEast due to non-competitiveness, kicked around in the MAC for six seasons, and then managed to get invited back and win a championship. It's hard to for me to argue that there's any team that's squandered their opportunities more than we have. UConn is in a worse spot overall but we wasted the most potential. We're in a major media market and recruiting hot bed, we had a national stage. But somehow we're substantially worse off overall as a program than we were when we got called up.

Disgusting that it takes this to get the administration to commit to a vague promise of 'developing resources and investing aggressively.' Why did it take three rounds of realignment to look into 'building on the foundation of success' whatever that means?

The number of conference-mates that have moved on increases to nine if you include TCU from C-USA.

How was the turnout? I haven’t missed one of these in years, but my wife and I had our first baby on Sunday. He left the hospital wearing a USF outfit. The black uniforms look great! Any idea how much one of those jerseys costs?

I thought the turnout was lackluster compared to years past.  The line for a pic with CCS got as short as 2-3 people which I had never seen before.  Last year the line for QBs stretched 2/3s of the way across the arena.  This year was definitely not the case.  The overall buzz was muted compared to the last few seasons.

Last year they had 11x14s by position groups and this year they had a very generic card on each of the position group tables for the players to sign.

That said the student athletes continue to be extremely polite and respectful.  I think we have a program of young men we should all be very proud of.

Sam Barrington, B.J. Daniels and Matt Grothe were excellent choices to model the new uniforms and were very engaging with the fans.

With tax, jerseys ran a little over $80.

  6. Shenanigans!

I got there around 4:00 and most everything was gone.  I found a #5 jersey from 2016 among the game worn/issued jerseys.  I got a little caught up in the potential excitement and really didn't look it at too closely. Upon further review the the #5 was only ironed on and the jersey never had a name patch.  I thought they just did a good job removing the name patch.

If I had to guess, I would say the athletic department or equipment staff threw on some #5s on extra jerseys and place them among the game worn/issued hoping suckers (like me) would bite.  Well I bit.

Be careful out there.  Our team/university has now demonstrated it will deceive its supporters.

Shame on me for buying the jersey, but shame on them for placing it in between the game worn/issued #4 and #6 jerseys.

  7. The New England Patriots waived fourth-year defensive end Cassius Marsh on Tuesday and signed defensive end Eric Lee off the Buffalo Bills' practice squad. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Lee, who entered the NFL as a rookie free agent in 2016 with Houston, has been active for one career NFL game (Week 4 vs. Atlanta this year) but did not play. He attended South Florida and spent 2016 on the Texans' practice squad before joining the Bills' practice squad in early September.   The Patriots now have Trey Flowers, rookie Deatrich Wise Jr. and Lee as pure defensive ends on the roster.

  8. I saw where someone posted the McMurphy tweet about San Diego State (and Memphis) being a leader for the G5 NY6 Bowl Spot.  I thought that deserved its own thread.

Anyway, I see a scenario where San Diego State will be ranked this week, not too far behind us.  It is reasonable that SDSU will run the table.  They play Boise State at home in 4 weeks and play at Air Force this weekend.  The rest of the schedule should be fairly easy SDSU wins.

SDSU has two P5 conference wins (Stanford and at Arizona State). The Mountain West is arguably more top heavy than the AAC. SDSU's division is garbage (even worse than the AAC East) and the play only Boise among decent teams in the other division.

So, has USF lost the ability to control it's own destiny?  If SDSU and USF both run the table which G5 Conference Champion will be ranked higher?  Style points will mean everything from here going forward and USF has no margin for error.

At this point, Navy has to be considered the odds-on favorite for the Cotton. They're a lock if they beat Temple convincingly, regardless what WMU does

If WMU wins they go to the Cotton.  Navy wins against 2 ranked teams won't move them up enough.  If WMU loses and Navy does go to the Cotton, the AAC will send a western division team to play in Fort Worth.  No effect on our bowl chances.

  10. Matt's 07 team had the signature wins the 16 team (or 15 team) does not.  The 07 team won a road game in the big stadium against a hostile (though certainly very polite) fans...the 16 team beat up a bad Syracuse team on its homecoming in a half-full Carrier Dome. The 07 team won its big home game against a Top 10 opponent...the 16 team could not keep up with FSU.  I understand why Matt would feel the way he does.

The 16 team has a chance for a signature win this Friday.  Let's hope they bounce back from adversity and get the job done.  Go Bulls.

  11. The only solution is to keep showing up and stay in your seats.  The players deserve to see fans in the stands, especially now that we're goo again.  TV and those they pay for the broadcast rights do not care about the fans in the stands.  If they did, they wouldn't schedule games in Florida for noon when games in Annapolis, Maryland start at 3:30.

An OCS will solve nothing.  No way the cost can be justified.  I don't think the student section would have been much fuller if they only had to cross Fowler instead of journey down to RayJay.

The fanbase need to suck it up.  Apply sunscreen liberally and repeatedly (my knees and arms attest to my failure at doing this).  Drink water.  This is the best way to show support.
